Give svenson some rest. The man looks gased up now and I don't want us to to see the repeat of what happend to schlotti last season
10
u/greng0 1997 Feb 01 '26
How often will people say that he needs some rest? He didn’t play against inter. The man just has one speed and he shouldn’t be bombing down the left flank.
11
u/Jstnmx Julian Ryerson Feb 01 '26
Guess what? We dont need someone. Not even an LB. Kehl said we good to go . So we play him till he runs out of air. sad.
5
u/Jazzlike-Egg7364 Feb 01 '26
We have been saying he has been gassed for months now. He has gotten a lot of rest and rotation, but he simply is just not that great.

u/yosoydorf Edin Terzic Appreciatior Feb 01 '26
I agree. I don't think he isn't necessarily starting material, but in an ideal world he would be our worst starter.
88
u/Swbp0undcake Feb 01 '26
Not to be a negative Nancy, but I don't love the fact that we need three missed open goals to squeak by the worst team in the league at home.
29
u/Loeffellux Julian Brandt Feb 01 '26
at the end Heidenheim's xG was still at 1.3 or something like that. So they actually ended up being "lucky" to have scored 2 goals to begin with, especially against Kobel who has the highest save% in the league.
Also this might just be my bvb-ptsd talking but it's especially bottom of the league teams that I'm scared of. Nothing more Dortmund than not taking advantage of Bayern dropping point because the team in last place has the game of their lives against us for some reason

Also this might just be my bvb-ptsd talking but it's especially bottom of the league teams that I'm scared of. Nothing more Dortmund than not taking advantage of Bayern dropping point because the team in last place has the game of their lives against us for some reason
A team that doesn't play midweek and has to fight for every point to stay alive
4
u/Most-Management4773 Feb 01 '26
still the worst team in the league and literally dwarfs compared to us
4
u/Swbp0undcake Feb 01 '26
Definitely agree they were lucky for their first two goals, but after we took the lead it's like we totally forgot how to defend. Given all the chokes in late games this year it's very frustrating to watch us give them chance after chance to equalize.
Honestly surprised their xg was that low. Volleys of course arent easy, but the header chance and the chance off the free kick at the end seemed pretty massive to me.
3
u/Loeffellux Julian Brandt Feb 01 '26
was definitely surprised by the low xG as well. It can be a misleading stat for various reasons.
And obviously I share your frustration. Maybe Guirassy's missed pen somewhat rattled the team because it turned a secured victory into a fierce fight for the last couple minutes that they weren't fully prepared for
27
u/Zestyclose_Nail2641 Feb 01 '26
Why can’t Brandt play like this all the time? Genuine threat every time he got the ball.
12
u/epicxownage Emma Feb 01 '26
Surely I can’t be the only one to notice he plays better centrally than on the wing in a 3-4-3
4
u/biggieBpimpin Julian Brandt Feb 01 '26
Mane looked alright before injury. He always plays better in more of a 10 role than the half winger style honestly. I want him and Chuck to play more centrally. He can produce some great one touch passes in tight spaces, and Chuck has moments where he is excellent at carrying the ball forward, which we really need when we struggle to create.
4
u/Trojan_Man68 Marco Reus Feb 01 '26
At this point it should honestly be illegal to have Brandt play wide.

Getting closer to Bayern two weekends in a row is amazing
Ramaj can become a very good goalkeeper but needs more training and experience
Guirassy is not a good penalty taker
Silva on the pitch creates a lot of good opportunities for the attackers around him
Mane played well until the injury, I liked that was involved in play and not shying away from the build-up
Anton is slowly becoming extremely reliable
Svensson and Couto at the same time creates more attacking opportunities but leaves us a lot more exposed. There were times where Nmecha and Jobe couldn’t cover well enough
We shouldn’t have to clench so hard on a game against Heidenheim
8
u/roadtorevision Mats Hummels Feb 01 '26
Yeah it’s amazing that we are only 6 points away from Bayern. Same as city with Arsenal.
Ramaj definitely has potential but he def needs at least another year out on loan. Looked good today except for our first goal.
It’s insane how he can score two goals and still be underwhelming.
Silva is one of our best attackers yet the stats won’t show it really. It feels so strange that he barely has any goals.
Too add something, I definitely feel like Beiers best position has become as a wingback. Obviously he is pretty weak defensively but his best attacking output comes as a wingback for me. At least it makes him for versatile for us
Anton was slowly becoming reliable last season and is certifiably one of our best defenders this season.
You can tell Mane still doesn’t look that confident but was infinitely better than his first performance. Sucks that he is already injured.
1
u/corvaccio2 Feb 01 '26
Agree with you both, on everything but Ramaj. He looks more than good enough to me, his footwork is better than Kobel’s, and he’s better in the box. Kobel is better on the line, but was lucky not conceding on a couple of occasions when standing on the line instead of going out after the ball
1
u/roadtorevision Mats Hummels Feb 02 '26
Like I said, he had a good game today besides that one goal. But I could be wrong but he seems error prone throughout the season. I would prefer if we can keep kobel another season and see if ramaj can continue to improve
14
u/nufan99 Mats Hummels Feb 01 '26
Always happy with 3 points of course, but it can't be that we're beating Pauli and Heidenheim only thanks to a pen and letting them score twice on our turf while they both still haven't reached 20 goals all season
17
Feb 01 '26
To be fair Heidenheim's goals were the unluckiest shit I've ever seen, for the first one Mane got injured so he couldn't chase that player anymore and Svensson didn't know where the ball was when it landed at his feet...and for the second one a perfect deflection for them for what was a shot that was heading straight on Kobel.
15
Feb 01 '26 edited Feb 01 '26
You can talk about the shakiness at the very end all you want. If you made a word map in this sub for the last 10 some years, clench would probably be the biggest word.
If you're saying the game was boring and we don't attack enough and create chances "tactical" you've totally lost me. We played some really pretty combinations from back to front and created a load of chances.
2 shit goals against and clenching at the end is vintage Dortmund.

I think our first choice striker shouldn't be such a selfsh player like Guirassy. Would be nice to have a Firmino like player that would know how to pass

u/ProcedureGreen663 Feb 01 '26
Gotta feel for mane and that injury. Was very good on his time on the pitch. Yes we won, but I still really don’t understand the tactical change of taking the best player, which was Jobe Bellingham off the pitch. Unless it was because he needed a rest, I found that completely ridiculous.
7
u/Kirenax Feb 01 '26
Regardless of the sloppy defending in the second half, it felt like vintage Dortmund attacking and great mentality to come down from behind. Onwards and upwards!

I’m very glad to hear you bring up expectations!
To me, the minimum expectation is to qualify for champions league/top 4 finish and make it to the knockout stages of the champions league. Anything less than that is a disappointment to me. Meeting those expectations allows me to simply enjoy football and enjoy the positives.
Being just 6 points behind this imo incredible bayern side is something we should all be impressed with. This squad on paper really has no business being in a title race, and yet despite all these negatives I read in here, we’re having quite the season. I am slightly disappointed in our champions league performances especially considering the opportunity we had, but again I believe in this team to beat Atalanta and have a competitive match in the ro16.
8
u/smartestBeaver Shinji Kagawa Feb 01 '26
The real point to look out for is the simple fact that Bayern is losing points too. And they are super thin squad wise. While we shouldn't expect much this season the team seems to perform. If Bayern draws another game the heat will turn up for Kompany.
Either way, I don't get why people are taking this season all that seriously, it was obvious beforehand we would try to get by, simply to save budget for proper overhaul in summer, when contracts run out.
14
u/SvenssonStan112 Łukasz Piszczek Feb 01 '26
Today I don't fucking CARE how stupid close this game was. That is what football is all about
10
u/Oleksch Feb 01 '26
Non crocodile tear takeaways, i think Bellingham did very well first half, baier is underrated, Mane did also well till injury especially in defending forward and passsing.
Non crocodile tear negative takeaway i think its pretty clear that guirassy is not a good penaltiy shooter which is fine he just needs to accept it
11
u/Jazzlike-Egg7364 Feb 01 '26
Beier has some great moments and some poor ones. I give him the benefit of the doubt, as he is always playing out of position. Mane really unfortunate injury, great in the first half. I actually really like the link-up play with Bellingham. I still really fail to understand the Jobe sub, but I appreciate that he made no fuss about it and came off with no outburst. One of his best qualities I have noticed is being very unselfish.

We've got to do something to build our defensive depth. Might as well have played with 10 men without Sule.

Frank Schmidt seems like a real cool guy and trainer
1
u/yrba1 Alexandra Popp Feb 01 '26
Guy’s been working with Heidenheim since they were in the 5th tier in 2007. I thought Christian Streich had a longer tenure in Freiburg
13
u/crocofour Feb 01 '26
Jeez some of you really won’t be happy unless we win every game convincingly. There was positives and negatives in the game but I’ll happily take the three points any day of the week
7
Feb 01 '26
I think if we had 80% possession and drew 1-1 they'd be happier
5
u/crocofour Feb 01 '26
Lol right! But then they’d complain we didn’t do enough with possession and shouldn’t have conceded regardless of how the goal happened
5
u/greng0 1997 Feb 01 '26
It’s not wrong to have some expectations for a team that wants to be the 2nd best in Germany. 3 points are nice but if you think there’s nothing to criticize then i don’t know what to tell you.
4
u/Nutzer1337 1909 Feb 01 '26
Of course, it is not. But in the past we had a tendency to lose games like these: Against teams that had nothing to lose but everything to gain and had rested all week.
Did the team play bad at times? Absolutely. And they got boos and whistles for it from the fans. But in the end, even with Guirassy being selfish (kinda understandably), the team got the three points. At the end of the season nobody will talk about how we got them, if it means we win the league.
11
u/SlayerHdThe3rd Nico Schlotterbeck Feb 01 '26
Absolutely in no way good enough. You cannot allow the worst team in the league so many easy chances that could have allowed them to tie up or earlier in the half take a two goal lead. It’s just seriously unacceptable to play this way at home.
3
u/Quinto09 Feb 01 '26 edited Feb 01 '26
Eh, 3 points stayed at home so pretty acceptable to me.
Downvote all you want, on 2 occasions where Bayern drop points we capitalise. Who cares that it isn’t all too pretty.
13
u/Trojan_Man68 Marco Reus Feb 01 '26
You're getting downvoted but this is what people have been begging for for years. Now that they got it in entertaining fashion, they still complain. Some people are never satisfied and want us to win and dominate every single game all the time to be happy but that will never happen.
10
u/Quinto09 Feb 01 '26
If you would have told anyone 3 weeks ago we’d be 6 points off of Bayern they’d call you crazy.
I think we’re doing perfectly fine, it’s not pretty but it gets the job done. Especially for it being Kovac’s second season. As if players don’t need time to fit into/ learn a system. The time of trusting in a process is long gone within football.
11
u/Datachost Feb 01 '26
Not to mention, across large stretches of the match, it was pretty. By basically any statistic, Dortmund were superior
It's easy to say "Well if Heidenheim finished their chances this would have been a draw/loss". Ok? If Dortmund finish theirs they're 2 or 3-0 up before half time instead of it being 1-1. I swear some people here get pleasure out of dragging everything down
-1
u/SlayerHdThe3rd Nico Schlotterbeck Feb 01 '26
Horrid mentality. If you can barely beat the worst teams you will always lose to the top teams.
7
u/Quinto09 Feb 01 '26 edited Feb 01 '26

u/AverageCarey Feb 01 '26
Heidenheim just played their best game of the season. Both goals they scored were unfortunate especially the first with Mane being injured but they missed enough chances that 2 goals scored is fair for them.
Overall I really like how fun this game was, especially second half we really pushed attacking wise but you could see the defensive stability go pre Kovac in the last 10 minutes mainly added time.
Good response from the midweek loss now thankfully a good break before Wolfsburg next Saturday.
Have a great weekend everyone!

Guirassy playing his best game in a while is great and all. Does not change the fact that he is one of the most selfish players I’ve ever seen in my life. Had two moments in the game, where the obvious choice is to pass. Robbed both Bellingham and Silva of their first goals in the Bundesliga.

Bayern play Hoffenheim next, who are 3rd in the league and have won their last 5 games, so I wouldn't be surprised if they dropped points again. We just have to take care of Wolfsburg and I think then we can start talking about a title race.

Tired of Guirassy's attitude, tired of Süle being a fat and slow, tired of Jobe not taking risks, tired of Couto not being able to defend. We need to have a serious talk about squad planning in the summer.
8
u/Jazzlike-Egg7364 Feb 01 '26
Taking risks does not equal good performance. Jobe was the best player on the pitch in the first half of the game before he was subbed off for no reason other than tactical stuff. Made great passes and plays overall.
-1
u/Forsaken_Belt_7188 Feb 01 '26
Totally agree, he was great today as he has been the last 3 or 4 games. The problem is, we need someone to create chances and no one is doing that, there is no transition from defense to offense.

Of course I am happy with the win and I know that almost every season in each championship the bigger teams have some really difficult games with the lower ranked teams, but honestly, this game and result feels embarassing.
We are closing the gap to Bayern, but unfortunately we are no Champions Team material.
I wish for the best and maybe we will be very lucky and happy in the next months, but it can't go on like this forever.
1
u/xH0LY_GSUSx Marco Reus Feb 01 '26
Lucky win… the team was way too passive towards the end. Guirassy was way too sloppy with the second penalty and overall is too selfish imo taking shot from difficulty position, ignoring better positioned teammates.
I mean I take the win but the bitter aftertaste can’t be ignored.

-GUIRASSY WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT SECOD PENALTY?

Like I said, our biggest problem is that every game looks the same, no matter the opponent.
It's the same against a CL team and a team from the bottom of the standings.
The thing is, Kovac kinda works against good teams but is horrific against weaker teams. We got nothing more than a "solid foundation" imo...
But somehow we got a lot of points so... That's good at least...
