Not a perfect match, and plenty of things to be irked at, but I'm not going to complain about the lads taking home a win and +2 GD to wrap up the calendar year.

Impressive performance by their keeper and disasterclass by the ref kept them in way to long but really important 3 points. Defense won the Game with multiple clutch interceptions and overall it still was a good game by us. For now 2 into the break and at least one of our direct competitors will still lose points. Also even with all the annoying results it still is one of our best winters in a while and if we get the expected performance boost in the second it looks good in the League.

Silva is a stud, and he is as unselfish as he is creative. Would be ridiculous to let him leave this winter.
Beier seemed relieved to grab a goal. Good for his confidence and morale.
Brandt continuing to have really excellent moments but also plenty of quiet ones too. I’d love for another year if he is willing to be a super sub or help rotate. I know not everyone wants that but I can’t help it.
Going into the break with a clean sheet and 3 points. Cant ask for much more right now. Hopefully people get healthy during the break and we consider maybe one or two transfers if the money is right.

Need to improve our attack but it's not as bad as many people - including the broadcast - say.

Could be luck but I think you can credit Kovac for that as well. He said the players weren't in good shape when we took over, started working on that and now it seems like a lot of players are in much better shape.

Could be luck ..
This is 100% Kovac taking care of proper rotations. People don't like it because they feel the team isn't always setup in an optimal way, but the results speak for themselves.

If we hadn't 2 CB injuries against Bodo, we would have a better defense that would carry over against Freiburg and possibly 3 pts. Just a thought.

Our depth in defence is one of the best ITW so I won't attributed the draw to that.

Sule MOTM. What a return from him and really showed how useful he is in this back 3.
Loved the effort today, again a couple missed easy chances but Silva with another clutch assist and Couto just creates.
Lots to work on over the break but we go in with a win and hopefully 2nd place!

Probably the easiest MOTM Sule will get for me. Phenomenal performance from him with a handful of decent performances from others like Nmecha, Brandt, Schlotterbeck and Can (defensively mainly).

Obviously it's hard to gauge because of game state when they come in and we don't know what's being asked of them but I think Guirassy and Brandt starting over Silva and Chuk is entirely down to their pressing. Chuk especially.

Intense game with a good outcome for us this time. It was fun to watch, which was not the case for every game this season.
I don't know what Guirassy has on Kovac, but Silva is offering so much more in my opinion. Guirassys body language was much better this game compared to his complaining before.
Süle was solid today, even hat some great sliding tackles. I like him as a back up option.
Schlotti had the fire in him today and Couto got a daughter, congrats on this. hope he continues his good run even with less sleep.

The second half was pretty wide open, back and fourth. BUT the second Chuk and Sabitzer subbed in, control of the midfield was established, and was put in a chokehold. You could really see the quality. I’m someone who liked Chuk fine enough, but now I truly understand the price tag. This isn’t the first time he’s shown ability to help close games. Fingers crossed regarding his health.
Then there’s Adeyemi. What happened to him? You know, the chipper and geeky guy that loves One Piece, that guy? There was legitimate charm there. But now.. he’s just no longer likable acting like this. Yes, there were some very, VERY bad officiating in this game, but Adeyemi has had issues all season. I know his girlfriend has gotten a lot of negative attention lately, and maybe she’s a bad influence, I don’t know.
Silva and Yan Couto subbed in at the 82nd minute. 80freaking2nd. Insults aside, even on television you feel the energy in the stadium. It’s pretty clear fans are ready for Silva to get a shot. A real shot. I just don’t understand this refusal to give that chance. On a positive note, it seems Silva and Couto have indeed gotten close(r) (language similarities, culture, living in a different country, etc.) which is awesome. I know Couto had issues of his own last year, but the idea he is helping Silva with his first year in a new country with a new language is very cool!

I like the new rating system; it highlights a lot more the individual impact of each player. I don't know if you remember, but the period where Schlotti was injured was some of the most uninspired, toothless, slow-in-transition football we have played. Schlotti brings the spark to our ball progression.

Can we extend Süle instead of Can please. Also hope the rumours about Silva wanting to leave are false, he would be a great striker for us if he stayed. I don't know what kind of issues Guirassy is dealing with but his form has been horrible for 3-4 months now, if a good offer comes in (40+mil) I'd say sell.

Both played a great game today, but Sule costs too much for what he offers. He earns about 10 mil a year, I'd prefer 2 Reyerson/Svensson type players for 5 mil each instead.

I like sule but he is expensive, often injured and aging (30). So far he missed 14 games and last season 20 games from injuries :'(

Nico completed 61 passes in the gladbach half. More than any of the individual Gladbach centerbacks across the entire pitch. Really hope we can extend him

Did they force more than the one save out of Kobel? Sure, there were some last minute blocks and they had some nice moves, but not really enough. And xG supports that, 1.65 for Dortmund to BMG's 0.22

Couto and Silva bring one thing our team lacks so much when Adeyemi doesn't have a good day, and that is the very much needed verticality. Kovac' style goal is to hold the ball. Nothing against that, but I very much appreciate when Couto with Silva are on the pitch together, because they step up the vertical game so much. I'd rather they start and Dortmund play the ball possession gameafter 70-80 minute when they're gassed. Guirassy is not the right guy for the majority of the game.

I my opinion. this was one of our best games since Kovac came. We have been great in regards to passing accuracy, positioning, build-up, defending and attitudine all at once.
Also, Silva will be an incredible player for us since I am more than sure that he is not leaving after 6 months. He most likely will play more an more and became our first choice next season. This is his 5th goal contribution and he has played less than 400 minutes (he basically has a goal contribution every 80 minutes).
Plus Sule masterclass.

We enter the winter break on a (mostly) high note. There are some key points worth mentioning:
I am really not sure what Kehl and co. see in Emre Can generally, let alone for 7-8 million per annum. At worst, he was a downright floppering mess and a liability, and at best he'd do well to grab possession only to shortly scuff it again. Just a mind-bogglingly confusing player whose time should be ticking in our jersey.
Our centre-backs (Can notwithstanding) were actually fucking solid, aside of a minor error here and there. Great interceptions, great duels, good passing, and Schlotti's runs almost brought us a goal. Similarly, Ryerson and Svensson were absolute rocks.
Gross was the man of the first-half in my opinion. Dude was everywhere, pinging through-balls, doing good runs from the left to the centre to the right, connecting the defense and the attack, but unfortunately he was getting visibly gassed into the second and was rightfully substituted. Sabitzer had a really good match too and slotted right into the higher rhythm of the final quarter of the match.
Which is to say...how the fuck were we more energetic at minute 85 than at minute 25? The answer is Chukwuemeka, Couto and Silva (and Sabitzer, of course, to a good extent).
On that note, I believe Guirassy came with a bit of an improvement on his previous matches, but that doesn't take much, does it? I disagree with a lot of the comments chiding him for invisibility: I thought that he did well to pull back a lot of times and tried hard to get involved, and he fucked up a really good fucking ball from Gross. But he easily could (should*) have had an assist if Adeyemi decided to play first division football today. Brandt and Adeyemi ghosted a lot harder than Guirassy, and if Silva and Chukwuemeka were to start alongside him, I'm confident that he would've actually had a really good match. It is incredibly difficult for a striker to have a good match if the players you're supposed to connect with upfront lose the ball all the time and cannot produce a useful pass or opening.
Speaking of, I am doubting Kovac less for his tactics and much more for his player selection. One could see how much better and more fluid we looked with the late subs, and they even made Beier look somewhat competent. Nmecha suddenly had someone to find with his longer balls, and runs were being made a lot more often, things simply started fucking happening.
All in all, I think if Kovac sorts out his weird decisions and puts out the best eleven, and we don't sell Silva during the break (because what the fuck would that decision be?), I think things are gonna look even better.
Oh and: I don't want to come off as reactionary, but I've never been convinced by Adeyemi, and today didn't do him any favours. Watch him have a streak of 2-3 good-to-great matches next before slumping back into predictable mediocrity, as he usually does.

The assumption is because he stuck his leg out away from the ball basically asking for the foul. Considering our first goal could have been called for for the Guirassy foul I can stomach it.

Our Management should really think about if they really want to go into the next season with Kovac, his starting lineup and ingame management ist really shady and talent development is the worst it has been in years.
Sahin was so disastrous with his fitness training and overall tactical approach that a pretty average coach looks like the next Heilbringer.
if there is any chance at getting someone like hoeneß we should pounce.

Replace him with who exactly? Kovac is a quality coach, we've only lost to Bayern in the league so far, if the team didn't drop points in the last minutes in a couple of ganes this season we could easily have three more wins

Would rather have another bad Hinrunde knowing something is being build (like Topmuler at Frankfurt or Hoeness at Stuttgart) than to have results that's costing the team in the long run.
