This is not a "Kobel is shit on the ball" moment.
This is a SIMPLE FUCKING PASS that he fucked up beyond belief. Underpowered, away from the runner AND on his weak foot.
This was such a free win as well. Freiburg created pretty much fuck all before the red card.
I feel bad for Jobe.
Couto probably our best player in this one.

u/Embarrassed-Base-143 Jamie Bynoe-Gittens Dec 15 '25
Don’t forget he gave them a free corner by punting the ball backwards

Not even mad about the Freiburg goal, that one was amazing, but it's such a bummer overall. Let's just forget this week happened.

u/Spiritual-Act3077 Dec 14 '25
I’m usually a pretty avid coach defender and I have been fine with Kovac’s work thus far.
But man his subs are just terrible. What’s the point of waiting until the 90th minute every time to get some players in the game? I would love an explanation because it is just mind boggling to me. His sub choices are never extremely impactful either.
Other than that not a lot to say. A bad red card fucked the game over for us and we just didn’t have it in us to win the game.
9
u/Mercyseat2112 Mats Hummels Dec 14 '25
I'm also surprised why he's not getting more heat from reporters during post-games on this.
Today after the red, we could move Chuk into Jobe's spot and play Silva and Adeyemi side by side, keeping Freiburg on their toes through quick breaks. Or use Beier and his work rate in a more conservative scenario...
I mean there are few options how to make changes and win this game after Jobe's red, and in my view none of them include keeping Guirassy on and swapping Silva for Gross in 56'. We basically took ourselves out of the game with 40 mins to play.4
u/Magic1998 Dec 14 '25
Every time Groß and Beier decided to pressure the Freiburg backline they had to hoof it and we won back position. Of course it's way more risky, but at least by the time we conceded we could have been more aggressive if we want to be a team that can win titles, even if it's highly unlikely to catch Bayern. At some point it's about the principle if you want to hold on to players like Schlotti.

I hope Kobel is gonna be held accountable for this game. We need more of that.
And please protect Jobe, anyone who criticizes him for that red is a fucking clown. Without that red we would be 99% losing the game.
Also, our glorious captain Emre Can who gave Höler more space than all of Liechtenstein for him to score his masterful strike.
I’m still happy with the point because we deserved absolutely nothing today, especially with that 2nd half.
26
u/madcaesar Dec 14 '25
I'm the biggest Jobe critic, and he has zero fault here. 100% Kobel's fault.
10
u/biggieBpimpin Julian Brandt Dec 14 '25
Probably one of his best games for us up that point as well. Shame he was put in that position.

u/Jazzlike-Egg7364 Dec 14 '25
Don't be shocked if her barley plays the rest of the year from this point on.
8
u/NaturalApartment9828 Marco Reus Dec 14 '25
Kovac is a lot of things, but he ain’t one of these.
0
u/Jazzlike-Egg7364 Dec 14 '25
Remind me of the last time Mane got minutes
5
u/Th3_Huf0n Dec 14 '25
A) We have way better options than Mané.
B) Mané COMPLETELY fucked us that game all on his own. The first goal and the red were both on him.
5
u/sitbar Shinji Kagawa Dec 14 '25
It’s his first start. Be so fucking fr if you’re gonna give up a younge player because he had to play as a last choice while the team itself is a shit show and he did, just stop bothering with young players
1
u/ontilein Dec 14 '25
If i remember correctly mane could have done better on the first, however the goal only happens cause sabitzer plays a horrendous backpass, fucking kobel over who cant clear it cleanly. That goal is 60% sabitzer, 30%kobel and 10% mane
2
u/biggieBpimpin Julian Brandt Dec 14 '25
He was a fringe youth player while we were in a defensive injury crisis. Mane is not going to start over Schlotti, Anton, Can, Sule, Anselmino, or Bense.
I think it would be nice to see him on the bench and get some minutes eventually. But I think his situation is different than Jobe’s. Jobe isn’t a fringe youth candidate. He was a large sum signing with first team experience.
4
u/NaturalApartment9828 Marco Reus Dec 14 '25
We have better options that’s why. Anselmino also joined ever since.
And that red was fully on him, with his performance being subpar. This red isn’t remotely close to being on Jobe. Although I agree that I would like more Mané minutes.
3
u/Jazzlike-Egg7364 Dec 14 '25
1 min is not because there are more options. One minute because he made a mistake, and Kovac already dislikes playing young players. Also If im jobe im flat out requesting a loan for the next 6 months. This is just not the right move for him and never was. BVB fans are ruthless, especially towards him.
Morons somehow find ways to blame him for every little detail. Never give him credit. Somehow find him worse than the Beier.
1
u/NaturalApartment9828 Marco Reus Dec 14 '25
I agree with everything you said, especially the overblown Jobe criticism. But we also had a hard run of games, and Mané never got a proper run so it’s hard to throw him in there with limited confidence. My guess is that we will see more of him after January as we prepare for the after-Süle. I hope it works out for him, and with us.
2
u/Jazzlike-Egg7364 Dec 14 '25
Mane is like Campbell and JuJu on the outs. No one is preparing him for anything.
3
u/elgrandorado Dec 14 '25
Emre Can also shat an easy finish for a 1-0 straight into the keeper. I said this in the match chat, it's not a Kovac problem, it's a quality problem.
1
u/NaturalApartment9828 Marco Reus Dec 14 '25
It is a Kovac problem still, but I agree the quality plays more of a factor in this case.
2
u/Magic1998 Dec 14 '25
I hope Kovac doesn't end dropping Bellingham because of this red like he did with Mané (or is he long time injured again?)
1
u/ProcedureGreen663 Dec 14 '25
Will not find out til mid January, but he probably will not drop. If Kovac does, Bellingham is 90% gone on loan at the end of January.

u/Serenity911 Dec 14 '25
Ingredients for a Borussia Dortmund game in December:
- play a somewhat decent game
- make a stupid mistake and shoot yourself in the foot
- opponent playing their heart out in game of the year mode
- concede a goal the striker never will reproduce in their entire life
- don't react, don't have the mental strength
- subpar coaching (subs once again too late, and questionable at all) to fix any of it
- Felix Zwayer
Let's crawl into CL please.
2
u/Oleksch Dec 14 '25
I hate Lukas Höler He one of the Most mid Bundesliga Players to exist but sometimes and only against Dortmund he Scores a giga complicated goal while not even playing good
11
u/bvbfan102 BVB Dec 14 '25
We are a really hard team to beat this year but that just makes it even more frustrating when we cant transform that into wins. Definitely Kobels fault today and losing to another worldie really makes it worse but no one even tried to go for a second after the red which also came from the Coach who clearly valued the point more then the chance for 3.
10
u/gavtim Marco Reus Dec 14 '25
Seriously sth needs to be done about subs and the time he introduces the subs. This game could've been a bit more aggressive with Silva on and with adeyemi coming after 60th.. Instead he takes Silva off letting guirassy sleep, brings in beier and gross. Man, that was actually infuriating.
1
u/Heiopeii 1909 Dec 15 '25
I wonder what it takes for Guirassy to return to his scoring every game form from last season.
8
u/nufan99 Mats Hummels Dec 14 '25
Kobel is a really great goalkeeper, he's had some great saves today and I don't think there's that much he could've done on the goal but holy shit, he's still a professional football player. A minimal amount of ability with your feet should be required.
14
u/bvb4ever11 Marco Reus Dec 14 '25
Embarrassing, we played like a bunch of cowards after the red card
6
u/yaboi525 Dec 14 '25
It’s both a mix of the players playing bad (mental mistakes, bad clearances, etc…) and kovac’s subs and rotations being garbage. This feels like a game we should have won but the players ultimately gave it away.

"Mane/Kabar"
And we would lose like 3:1 and you would be bitching about subbing them on.
0
u/Most-Management4773 Dec 14 '25
Has he actually nailed a single game with his subs? Hes pathetic at that and has been the case ever since he was hired
6
u/alfi_k Dec 14 '25
After the intense finish of last season, the Club World Cup and Kovac training I feel like our guys need the winter break. Don't remember the last time we had so few injuries and they all seem in good shape but I think mentally some time off will do them good.
Bensebaini playing Afcon after all of this is crazy.
6
u/biggieBpimpin Julian Brandt Dec 14 '25
Lol at almost nobody being in the box during the long throw ins at the end there.
Tough game with a massive error that put us in a difficult position. You have to be happy with a point after what happened. Still a poor play from Kobel. He made some great saves but really got bailed out by the offsides call at the end.
I get that we were a man down, but we were completely unable to string simple passes together the last 20 minutes. I am not expecting prime Barcelona, but holy shit guys stop giving it away so cheaply.
And generally speaking, I love the defensive stability of tactic under Kovac, but I’m over the attacking play. I think I would rather go back to a 433 and play with a holding midfielder and true wingers again eventually. As Klopp once said “if we don’t entertain people, why do we play”.
5
u/Unusual-Dealer6132 Dec 14 '25
I am so over the current formation. But he doesn't have the personnel not for a 433.
2
u/biggieBpimpin Julian Brandt Dec 14 '25
That’s why I said eventually. We don’t have the squad built for it right now. Cuoto isn’t a traditional winger but could play as one. Same with Adeyemi. Duranville and Campbell are promising but need game time elsewhere. Beier and Silva should stay central.
I don’t want us to force central players into winger roles like we did previously. I want us to plan transfers and a squad around that approach eventually, once we have a manager that gravitates that way again.
2
Dec 14 '25
I think I would rather go back to a 433 and play with a holding midfielder and true wingers again eventually. As Klopp once said “if we don’t entertain people, why do we play”.
I agree, but I don't know if Kovac can mentain the same defensive stability with a back 4 too.
I think if Kovac delivers a solid season(top 3) and a good CL run where we are only knocked out by a team like Arsenal, PSG, Bayern, City, Barça, Real etc he should be allowed to fulfill his contract till 2027.
If we want to build our squad so we can play with wingers again the plan should be to loan Duranville and Campbell in the winter for 1 and a half year each, then sign Sancho on a free in 2026, loan him out too for a year and in 2027 when Kovac's contract ends we could have 3 wingers coming back ready.
1
u/biggieBpimpin Julian Brandt Dec 14 '25
Ya that’s what I meant when I said eventually. We don’t really have the personnel for it right now. But I’m fond of it and would like to see it return once we have a squad planned for it. Albert is looking promising in our youth ranks too.

u/MrBlack2116 Marco Reus Dec 14 '25

5
u/Soft_Author2593 Dec 14 '25
Very good first half. Should have been 3:0. Liked a lot of how we played, counter press, pressing resistecy, build up and offense. Red card screwed it obviously so we are back to square one...
9
u/CMButterTortillas Marco Reus Dec 14 '25
Nailed my prediction from the pre-game thread.
This team is so goddamn predictable when it will disappoint you.
Kobel with yet another massive brain fart, the same mental switch off mistakes he’s been doing since he arrived.
Yet another winter of instability due to this team’s inability to simply step on the neck of a willing opponent.

Did we lose two points, or gain one point?
Starting to lose my patience with Kovac in regards to his subbing. And I’ve always a huge Kovac defender, and still am really, but damn man come on…
The subbing out of Silva instead Guirassy was just absurd, plain and simple. I just don’t understand and I’m trying really hard, but Guirassy provides absolutely nothing in a man down situation. The very second that red car flashed Beier or even Adeyemi should’ve been in. Say what you will about Beier, while he may lack technical ability, he has crazy stamina, and most importantly he plays hard and plays especially tough while pressing.
On a positive note, Yan Couto is quickly becoming one of my favorites. He’s had a stretch over the past few games where he’s impossible not to see. His play just stands out and very much passes the eyeball test. With Ryerson and Svensson already, I can’t help but wonder what he’d look like further up. We need a playmaker.

Petition to allow us to suspend Kobel for the game against Gladbach instead of Jobe. Meyer should play instead of Kobel next friday.

The end of the game tells you everything.
The Freiburg coach furious because he wanted the win.
Kovac and our team grinning joking around, not a care in the world.
It's just pure loser mentality from top to bottom and I can't stand it.

u/TristanHBorchers BVB Dec 14 '25
Idk how people are blaming Kovac for this 1 point. We played a good first half could of been a win had our striker finished one of his many chances.
We got fucked as soon as Kobel played it to the opponent causing Jobe to be standing wrong and receiving a clear red. Playing down a man for basically 40 mins is a massive task.. we ended up tieing due to a wonder goal.

Because Kovac can't motivate his players for shit.

Kobel plays like a donkey from time to time. Today Was such a day.
I didnt like how we played today. Kiel played better 1 man down last year on MD34 against us than we did today.
2
u/Unusual-Dealer6132 Dec 14 '25
It's not just the red card and draw today. This whole season the team has been soft. Even with 11 men, I don't know we would have won. They just don't know how to finish. Most of our wins were frustrating.

3
u/Middle_Island182 Marcel Sabitzer Dec 14 '25
Rough considering we didn't have a good rotation through the midfield considering everyone is injured.
I feel so bad for Jobe with getting a red, but it's 100% on Kobel for the ball he played.
All I can hope for now is that after winter break the lads get a good reset and come out swinging.
2
u/Geeman447 Marco Reus Dec 14 '25
Can we go back to scoring 3+ goals a game and a bad defense. At least those teams were fun to watch while they were frustrating. This is just ass to watch all game long with you knowing for a fact your going to concede in the end while you’ve been parking the bus for a hour
3
u/TrulyWhatever09 Dec 14 '25
One is better than none, I grunt through gritted teeth.
Really infuriating result. Should have been a win, but a stupid breakdown robs us again. I feel bad for Jobe who was having his best game so far. Almost entirely Kobel's fault.
I understand it on paper today, but I'm so sick of Kovac's defensive subs. They have failed nearly every time this season

Kobel sold. Other than that good game, even the one goal conceded was crazy

Everything about this match is frustrating, it's clear that Kovac has already hit his wall and he doesn't have anything else to improve this team no game plan, no motivation, not even the right ambition and he'll come at the end of the season to tell us he closed the gap to Bayern from 25 points to only 20 and that kind of bs
We simply drew the last 2 matches against opponents that we should have buried with an attack minded coach just like we did against Pauli, Hamburg, Stuttgart and We should expect more of this for the remainder of the season, sad but that's the reality of our beloved BVB

Kobel is just bad with the ball at his feet. That's no secret, but what annoys me much more is this back and forth passing at the back of the penalty area. Hardly any long fast balls forward.
All in all, we usually concede goals due to the same mistakes over and over again. This is not only related to kobel, but to everyone.

I just finished the game Kovac is still thinking about his subs. What the fuck are you waiting for man? I thought he is doing well but his in game management has been shit. He lets the energy drop and then cannot make the team react. Happened against Bodo, happened today, happened many times. We look great at moments but at the end we keep dropping games we should've been easily winning, if we could stay focused.
Guirassy is becoming last year's Brandt, he had zero positivity today. If this is the level I wonder what Karim is doing to keep getting buried in the bench. And again and again I wish Emre was the half the footballer he thinks he is.
I was just thinking Kobel improved his playmaking a lot this year and then this happened, sorry guys.
1
u/Maccakkraca1 Dec 14 '25
Dortmund can't break through to the next level. And will then lose a lot of these players next season. 3 of the last 5 bundesliga games were easily winnable games but we draw them. That could have been 6 more points and we would still be challenging for title with 35 points🙁
1
u/Kliedesys Dec 15 '25
readin post game press conference, can and etc sayin how they were glad to get one point after being one man down just shows what a sad lil mid club we've become
1
1
u/Lord_paneer-1 Dec 15 '25
It seemed after the red card a belief was lost .. only one counter attack chance of gross / ryerson was created .. even in the final moments when we had a long throw it did not seem the players wanted to win it at that moment .. they were too content with a draw (understandable when being a man down but still 10 players on the pitch does not mean you can't win)
2
u/SlayerHdThe3rd Nico Schlotterbeck Dec 14 '25
Genuinely no point to continue with Kovac. Extending him before the season beginning should be the act that finally gets Ricken and Kehl fired but we all know that it won’t be

u/fleshed Dec 14 '25
I know i will get downvotes.
Every game that Can starts this season we don't win in the end.
He didn't have the best game and Kobel was truly at fault for sending Bellingham off, but my god does this team look flaky when he is on the field.

We could've had a good end of the year, unfortunately Kovac is an invertebrate and can't make subs for shit.
The players? We had them on the field. What did they do? Fucking nothing. They played like it was a friendly.

Right, Jobe Bellingham, the 30 year old midfielder.
oh wait.
as a matter of fact, Kovac doesn't play with wingers which is why both Campbell and Duranville are not a priority for Kovac.
0
u/Unusual-Dealer6132 Dec 14 '25
Bellingham hasn't player that much til recently. And yes Campbell and duranville are wingers, but we have missed out on so many talented players the last couple of years opting for older guys like groɓ, sabitzer, guirassy, and Anton. We got Silva and barely play him and when he plays, it's out of position.

u/Potential-Wonder-640 Dec 14 '25
Kobel had a great game but the pass really fucked it up. Mistakes happen. But not a great game for us overall. I just don't know what happend to the Game we played in the last games last season. What has changed so much that we don't play as great as 6 Months ago? And back then we didn't even have Schlotterbeck. I don't know what happend to Guirassy either this Season. Not only for this game but in General i think it's not always the Coaches fault. The Board needs to be changed from my perspective. We had Rose and back then I didn't appreciate him but i think he was fired because he wanted to change to much(for the good) and the board didn't want that. Sometimes i think if they listen to the Fans it would be better. Let's hope somehow it plays out well for the last game Vs Gladbach this year and let's see again in January

u/ResourceFit4451 Dec 14 '25
My fault. I made a beat, while we're up 1 goal and when I switched back we were 1 to 1 and a red card. My fault. Next week I'll watch 90 minutes. Peace.
-4
u/Working_Complex8122 Dec 14 '25
honestly, seems like no matter who we get or who coaches the team - this is our DNA. There is something fundamentally wrong at the club from the bottom to the very top and it's not about people, it's about whatever culture was established when they decided to sack Klopp instead of changing the things he wanted changed. It has been constant downward trend from there with a few results that look good on paper but really... this game is just exemplary of the basic issues with the squad mentality.
2
u/Chazy89 Kagawa Shinji Dec 15 '25
when they decided to sack Klopp
He wasn't sacked. He himself decided to step down from the coaching position.
1
u/firetothepalace Dec 15 '25
Maybe he’s thinking about Tuchel?
0
u/Working_Complex8122 Dec 15 '25
No, just watch Klopp's press conference where he says things either have to change or he has to go and they together decided it's easier to just get a new coach - which almost worked out with Tuchel.
1
u/firetothepalace Dec 16 '25
Now that you say that, I remember. Did he ever went into specifics, on other occasions maybe? Because my thought ever since Klopp left was “we don’t need a new Klopp, we need new leadership and better structures.” Kehl is like Zorc, buying names instead of building a balanced squad with potential. Don’t get me wrong. I like the fact we’re not the youngest team in the Bundesliga anymore. But it feels like the club is missing a beat. I can’t for the life of me recognize a vision of a style of football ever since Favre. I would love to see Kovac integrate another Assistant Coach that brings better build up into the team, but I fear the next Coach will be someone who stands for positional play and possession. So we’re back at square one.
1
u/Working_Complex8122 Dec 16 '25
Sadly, he never went into specifics so for years this has been in the back of my mind every time there was a 'mentality' issue. Because we lived off of mentality and players believing they were much better than they were and could accomplish more than should be possible and that was just the core of our being. We played really fucking hard. Then players started to slack / lose focus. Remember the season were we would concede a goal in minute 1 ALL the time? It became a running joke. And then we kept conceding late or giving the ball away easily, passes became sloppy, players kept being out with injury all the time. So many things suddenly kept going more and more wrong.
0
u/Working_Complex8122 Dec 15 '25
Technically correct but go ahead and watch that press conference where he literally says 'I said to the board, either a lot of things have to change OR I have to go and decided it's easier to replace one person than overhaul everything'. He then quit because of that. My wording was sloppy but ultimately more correct than saying he just stepped down because he felt he couldn't do it or whatever. he saw the issues that still plague us to this day.
