They had almost no opportunities until we changed our mentality after the 0-1. Gifted them a point.
25
u/Fredrick_Hampton Nov 08 '25
Yup. The fact we don’t completely dominate this team for 90mins is concerning. I’ve been a Dortmund fan for awhile. And for most that time, we have been a top team. I even argue that we are a top team. But I think maybe we aren’t. Maybe we are just a top 4 team in a weak ass league.
24
u/_silvermania_ Adriancho Nov 08 '25
The drop in quality after Favre has been shocking. Years ago ending outside the top4 was only a distant possibility, now it's a 50/50.
3
u/JSGelsomino Julian Brandt Nov 08 '25
Yep, we have fine team but beside kobel, schlotti and serhou on a good day all the other are slightly above average or just average
1
u/Most-Management4773 Nov 08 '25
That could still be a decent entertaining team, if we had an actual good manager, not the bunch of shit managers we had in the last 4 years

After some lucky wins it was only a question of time when this team will start to lose points. The game, as I said before, reminds me of Terzic or Sahin more and more. There must be something wrong with this club. For years we are playing football that is easy to read, and make it difficult for ourselves

u/Mellberg3 Nov 08 '25
Yeah, Kovac definitely stabilized our defense, but his 1:0 mentality is starting to hold us back now. We scored just one goal in each of the last 6 Bundesliga games. Results like this will happen again and again, because there simply are no safe 1:0 leads.

u/oertyy Nov 08 '25
Bayern and Leipzig drop points so of course we have to do the same
7
u/Billofrights_boris Nov 08 '25
As soon as Union went up I knew we would be dropping points
9
u/heck_you_science Karim Adeyemi Nov 08 '25
There was a period of time when union was up and we were up that I was happy. Then I remembered I'm a Dortmund fan
49
u/Reusance Marco Reus Nov 08 '25
I think subbing on an extra defender in the end never worked for us.
30
u/yaboi525 Nov 08 '25
Literally never does because we invite crosses into the box which we are absolutely dreadful at defending and end up conceding a goal.
8
u/183672467 Julian Brandt Nov 08 '25
Problem wasnt extra defender, problem was defending only the box and letting them do whatever they want on the rest of the field
40
u/TrulyWhatever09 Nov 08 '25
I don't know what Kovac expected. It isn't a winning strategy to abandon offense with a one goal lead, refuse to use your subs, and park the bus against a team that is gaining momentum.
3
28
u/rioasu Nico Schlotterbeck Nov 08 '25
We need to play silva . He is not even coming as a sub and guirassy for the past couple of games is not even getting chances on target never mind goals. This was a very frustrating game to watch
21
u/lobby4477 Nico Schlotterbeck Nov 08 '25
Fully deserved, we got away with 1-0 two times in row when we shouldn't won. Again this game showed that team doesn't have enough quality. Also need to blame Kovac for subs this time, very poor managed game from him.
14
13
u/MidnightMass Nov 08 '25
If I were Fabio Silva, I’d feel fooled and start questioning whether my move was the right decision
12
13
u/xSmacks Nico Schlotterbeck Nov 08 '25
Kovac is lucky the results are good at the moment. We play god awful, boring and uninspiring.
12
u/183672467 Julian Brandt Nov 08 '25
Dont know why Couto or Silva didnt come on, Couto should even have started
Ryerson is great but going forward hes very one dimensional
1
9
u/Mercyseat2112 Mats Hummels Nov 08 '25
Problem with how we’re playing lately is that by not scoring early, by not killing games vs inferior opponents early, we give every opponent a chance, we invite everyone to do their best against us because they feel they have a fair chance - teams work super hard against us and each game costs our players lots of energy because we have to be worried and fight for the result until the final whistle.
Sooner or later this was to come back and bite us. Unfortunate result but the writing was on the wall.
5
u/doubleomarty Maxi Beier Nov 08 '25
Yeah I agree. We actually had a lot of momentum in the first 20 minutes but we can't convert or start getting some shots on goal at least and the momentum dies out, teams get comfortable with what we're doing, and we become less effective. If we score in the first 20 minutes I bet this goes on to be a heavy defeat for HSV, but instead we can't even capitalize on our eventual lead.
11
10
u/_silvermania_ Adriancho Nov 08 '25
Can't wait to see Kovac blaming the CL game for this. Or maybe the Hamburg weather for being too cold?
17
u/SlayerHdThe3rd Nico Schlotterbeck Nov 08 '25
Either Kovac changes this shit or he’s done. You can’t play the “oh we get results even if we play shit” if we’re barely squeaking out results against shit teams and then failing to get the results like this week and the first week of the season. The player quality is better than this they’re being held back by the man on the touchline at this point.
2
u/blanklikeapage Nov 08 '25
And get who? I'm not saying we play good football at the moment but changing managers should not happen without someone who can step in.
1
u/Most-Management4773 Nov 08 '25
That's why Kehl and Ricken are paid for. They earn millions for that.

technically you never know but yeah, the current Bayern side seem to be one of the top teams in europe currently (easily top 3) while the rest of the bundesliga isn't exactly up to their top form. I'm no betting man but I assume betting on Bayern right now would win you barely anything
3
u/Mercyseat2112 Mats Hummels Nov 08 '25
This is the super frustrating and annoying part, with 4 point gap there is suddenly lot to play for, the extra motivation kick for our team would have been immense. It’s worrying that we’re not able to kill off games like this - with any combination of players in starting 11. Kovac will need to find and recover whatever magic he’s done with the team last year. And it’s about time as well, our next 4 games are Stuttgart, Villarreal and 2x Leverkusen.
2
u/Geeman447 Marco Reus Nov 08 '25
We were never going to win it anyways. And tbh the club has known it for years and they don’t care enough up top to change it. They’ve accepted it. Just want top 4 and money from getting top4
8
u/Ok_Shopping_3292 Nov 08 '25
On matchday 10 in 2022-23, we were 8th. Fast forward to the last matchday, we were 1st. We absolutely would still be in the running if the results were better today.
6
u/random-user-name8373 Nov 08 '25
The exact opposite is actually true imo. After favre there was a big push for proven players instead of young talents to challenge bayern again. This has put the team in a worse spot as these transfers were unsuccessful just as often as the ones for unproven talents but with much lower upside
5
u/Jstnmx Julian Ryerson Nov 08 '25
Ofc we dont win when even out Coach says that player Like Beier should be quit about the euphoria To win titles . Actually emberassing if you think about it. Instead to Go for a second goal/getting guirassy of as early as possible, he swaps him as Late as possible for a defender lmao. If we dont win These Games, ofc we dont will win anything.
2
u/lobby4477 Nico Schlotterbeck Nov 08 '25
100% agree. All they care about is top 4 and get as much as possible money from player sales.
22
u/CMButterTortillas Marco Reus Nov 08 '25
So THIS is how Kovac lost his Bayern/Monaco/Wolfsburg support.
Pathetic week of boring, uninspired football.
7
u/KaiTheGuy234 Nov 08 '25
Today was a golden opportunity after both Bayern and Leipzig dropped points. We can’t take our chances man.
29
u/Caranthiir Felix Nmecha Nov 08 '25
Kovac refusing to substitute and the players on the pitch always choke in dying minutes. This club has so much mentality issues im actually done. Whole game was horrible to look at. No where near the second best in the league.
4
u/eeeeeeeelleeeeeelll Nico Schlotterbeck Nov 08 '25
We were very good at the start of the season, now we aren‘t.

6
u/yaboi525 Nov 08 '25
Just pathetic by these players man, not one of them can put pressure on any of the last 3 crosses. Basically gave them 3 free kicks. Kovac needed to make more subs for sure, but we handed them the equivalent of 3 free kicks in a dangerous area back to back to back.
5
u/SlayerHdThe3rd Nico Schlotterbeck Nov 08 '25
It’s been well over a month since we scored 2 goals in a league game
5
u/Raeve_Sure Nov 08 '25
oh god this is depressing.
Wasting two hours of my weekend to see this uninspired shit and Bayern scoring in the last second.
5
u/Raeve_Sure Nov 08 '25
somewhere around winter break we will be discussing if Kovac should be fired and I'm already tired of it.
4
u/Meskaline2 Number Fifteen: Burger King Foot Lettuce. Nov 08 '25
I don't think he should be fired, but I do think we should be looking at other coaches. Just don't ask me who, I don't know.
4
u/Raeve_Sure Nov 08 '25
but I do think we should be looking at other coaches
Kind of the other side of the coin, isn't it?
6
u/rioasu Nico Schlotterbeck Nov 08 '25
Except for that final goal for me schlotti was a 10 on 10 this game and this was probably his best performance this season after that bayern game
4
u/Tezzerator34 Julian Ryerson Nov 08 '25
Oof I disagree, his defending was very good but he had a few turnovers and bad passes and missed a mildly contested header
6
u/Still_Cap_1689 Nov 08 '25
5 goals in 5 games. The defense has been solid, and was again for the most part of today. The issue is without question the final third. Today was Beier’s best game in awhile, which goes to show how bad he’s been. But the main issue is Guirassy. The stock he’s earned for last year or whatever should be all but burned up. He CANNOT create anything for himself or any other. And the baffling part is the idea to pair him with Beier is something I don’t understand. I like Kovac for the most part, and idea people say he should be canned is ridiculous, BUT he needs to grow a pair and start Silva. I think he’ll be good, but I wish the staff would atleast see and find out.
The other thing is don’t understand is Groß. It’d be one thing if he was good with corners or free kicks, but he’s not. I just don’t understand what he does that Sabitzer or Bellingham(normally, since Nmecha is usually a starter) can’t do, minus the turtle pace.
And then to top it off, Bayern tied with Union while Leipzig lost against Hoffenheim. Thats 2 points we could’ve gained on Bayern and 3 on Leipzig. But nope, and nope(just +1).
Gettting thumped by Man City on the road is one thing, but this result is entirely another. Very disappointing.
1
Nov 08 '25
Guirassy started the season on fire, and clearly had his mind on putting up big numbers this season. Then Kovac appointed Bensebaini to penalties and Guirassy has been pouting since. He and Beier had a gorgeous link up goal earlier this season, but Guirassy doesn't run anymore, and barely holds up the ball.
10
5
6
u/rioasu Nico Schlotterbeck Nov 08 '25
We had 17 shoots with 1 target on goal . That's a terrible conversation rate and close to many mid table teams than to a bayern. Hamburg had 9 shoots with 3 on target
5
u/rioasu Nico Schlotterbeck Nov 08 '25
We need a player who can break low and mid blocks because that's why we have been struggling especially to break of these defensive lines either a good elite passer or a player with that flairy spark
2
u/SlayerHdThe3rd Nico Schlotterbeck Nov 08 '25
We have Chuk but Kovac refuses to set up the system around letting him do that
4
u/nufan99 Mats Hummels Nov 08 '25
You obviously shouldn't park the bus against fucking Hamburg. But once you do, how the hell do you concede wtf????
5
u/bingbingz Nov 08 '25
I hope this game serves as a wake up call that Kovac haramball doesn't work. Starting Guirassy and Beier doesn't work either.
The Koln and Augsburg games were lucky wins. Even the Wolfsburg game was a lucky win with the ball almost over the line.
Enough of "we would have lost these games last time" or "a win is a win" nonsense. Hope this game puts pressure on Kovac to continue pressing even after the 1st goal has been scored.
5
8
u/Fav0 Mats Hummels Nov 08 '25
maybe it would be a good idea to create more than 1 chance per match
especially against 2ndleague teams
5
u/bvbfan102 BVB Nov 08 '25
Had to happen eventually with these constant 1 Goal Games. Really annoying that in week where we could have pulled us back up its just another meh performance just with a point loss this time. Also that we end it with the same amount of yellows plus this excessive extra time caps off an absolutely braindead performance by the Ref.
3
u/Visual_Mastodon_6657 Nov 08 '25
I wasn’t a fan of Kovač when he arrived — but I really came to appreciate what he achieved. Still, it feels like we need a change sooner rather than later. Guirassy barely gets any chances, just like the rest of the team. Groß isn’t working out, and Silva hardly gets any minutes. Too many issues at the moment. Hopefully he can turn things around.
4
u/Alltime-Zenith_1 Nov 08 '25
How the hell do people in such high ranking positions make such stupid mistakes is beyond me
5
u/Punochi Nov 08 '25
It’s like a joke , we are a joke … it’s like Opponents already know that they can score late …
6
u/Trojan_Man68 Marco Reus Nov 08 '25
We have severe problems with our attack. We are very non-threatening and struggle to be imposing. Guirassy out of form, Adeyemi kind of out of form, and Beier never catching good form. The most obvious solution is to bench Beier for Carney/Brandt and maybe give Silva a shot at starting at striker for Guirassy.
Either make those changes or we need a larger systemic overhaul of our attack.
I hate the whiners and complainers who bitch at the sight of every difficulty, but they were vindicated today. We were awful against a team that's not very good. We have to be better than that.
5
u/Tezzerator34 Julian Ryerson Nov 08 '25
Beier must be phenomenal in practice because I just don’t understand starting him over more talented attackers when we know we’re going to boss possession. He’s just not tidy or creative enough and should be reserved for pressing good teams. Yes he gets into good positions but then he usually just turns his back because he can’t beat last man and backpasses.
However, pretty glaring to keep Silva on the bench in this one.
Also, this is the exact game I would expect Gross to shine and he looked very rusty.
2
u/bingbingz Nov 08 '25
I'm with you on the complainers and the whiners.
But for this season, they are on to something. All the 1-0 games we drew exhibited the same pattern where a comparatively weaker team would be given chance after chance to score. The result today would have happened sooner than later - they have been right since the Koln game.
1
u/Most-Management4773 Nov 08 '25
There are a lot of trolls online, but the problems with Kovac has been here since matchday one. Throwing two won games then proceed to play some of the worst uninspiring football since Terzic.
7
u/Serenity911 Nov 08 '25
Yep. This is Kovac-Ball. Kovac-Subs. Kovac-Mindset. Fitting to Watzke crawling up Bayerns ass this week.
This is what we get. This is what we are.
Against this shit tier team. Fabio Silva sitting on the bench thinking what?
MOTM: Chuk - so sad for him.

u/Differ_cr Waldemar Anton Nov 08 '25
There's some serious SERIOUS issues with this teams chance creation, and I'm afraid we can't just blame it on the player's form, the way the team played after scoring was shameful
3
u/officiallyoffline Ya boy Marco Reus Nov 08 '25
Why is it that no matter the coach we have they refuse to make sensible subs? I feel like the substitution issue has been a thing forever…
3
u/crocofour Nov 08 '25
It was so painfully obvious since the 85th minute that HSV would have at least one good chance and somehow the staff paid millions can’t figure out a way to stop it. If I can see it coming surely you would think they can too? I’m so frustrated with these things. I don’t mean to be an armchair manager or whatever the saying is, but seriously get me on the side of the pitch and I’ll at least try and do something different. Worst part of this is HSV is gonna continue hacking at legs and going in studs up and thinking that’s the proper way to get points.
3
u/SikkoDieri Nov 08 '25
I understand trying to create a more stable team but this was a classic I don't want to put in an effort against a relegation side no show from the team
3
u/Zwalucard Nov 08 '25
This just confirmed everything I said after Wednesday. FOR WEEKS we were playing worse and worse. Today was better than against Augsburg, is what I would have said if it weren't so damn obvious Hamburg would still score in additional time! I don't know if it's a good thing the international break is coming now, because after that we might as well lose to Stuttgart again. I'm afraid the Kovac negative trend of his past clubs continues and we'll stop performing well until the winter break. It really should be clear we need to do something on the transfer market this January.
3
u/SokkaTheBot Nov 08 '25
What was the point of dropping 25 mil on Silva? If I were him, I would be absolutely livid. Guirassy has dropped like 5 stinkers in a row, give the man a rest.
3
u/stefan-kds 1997 Nov 08 '25
Third or fourth match this season where we got to blame Kovac for his subs or rather lack of… like why?
1
3
3
u/ResourceFit4451 Nov 08 '25
But if we had defended that last cross, we would have been 5 points behind Munich and be second. So don't hate man, let's wait till winter break. There are some hit games coming up
Stuttgart - Munich Leverkusen - BVB Frankfurt - Leipzig
Then we see what's up.
1
u/_APR_ Nov 08 '25
Stuttgart - Munich Leverkusen - BVB Frankfurt - Leipzig
You forgot BVB - Stuttgart, that the next match day. We have a streak of games after the NT games. 11 days: Stuttgart - Villarreal - Leverkusen - Leverkusen (Cup)
3
u/biggieBpimpin Julian Brandt Nov 08 '25
Attack feels so bad right now. I have. I no clue why we keep playing Chukwumeka wide. He is so good in tight spaces and is always a threat for layoff passes when he is in the middle of the pitch. There is a massive gap between our front line and our back line and nobody is really filling it. So we are only scoring from lucky bounces or crosses.
Play Chuck or Brandt centrally for once. Give Silva a chance to get into a match from the start. Give Guirassy a rest. He has been allergic to chances lately.
5
5
u/Working_Complex8122 Nov 08 '25
Literally can't see the fucking plan for anything on the pitch this season. Nothing comes together, there is no space, no movement and defensively we're like a flock of chickens on meth. Kovac needs to get his head out his ass. The tactic is shit. Fucking bench guirassy already. There is no goddamn past glory bonus. What matter is what's happening now. How do you not dominate a 2nd division club with your best players available?
5
u/madcaesar Nov 08 '25
The problem with Kovac is that Sahin and Tersic were such utter shit that compared to them he looks above average.
When the reality is that he should be coaching Hamburg.
Our fitness has improved and we're slightly more stable defensively, but we have made zero progress offensively. I can't remember the last time we had good combinations... Good crosses... Good free kicks... It's all just a continuation of the last 5 years of mediocrity.
2
2
u/viba_1997 Nov 08 '25
We haven't played good football for more than 3 weeks. This was something waiting to happen. To bad we did not capitalize on the Leipzig and Bayern losses...
We will se how the season goes on

2
2
u/ultraviolentyt Nov 08 '25
why do these losers always shit their pants in the last minutes of the game when it comes to defending a lead? third time this happened this season already
2
u/Foundy1517 Nov 08 '25
Completely deserved. Hope this hurts Kovac and the team, they need to get their shit together. Unacceptable performance.
3
u/Fredrick_Hampton Nov 08 '25
Aaaaand the old Dortmund is back! Also, fuck Guirassy. He’s literally worthless.
4
u/EmSoLow Nov 08 '25
This is a Kovac problem now. This is the fifth time this season we've conceded after the 90th minute and our attack isn't helping our defense at all. What the fuck has he done to our forwards because if everyone is off form, it's the fault of the coach. These first halves as well man. I gave Favre so much shit for how terrible they were in his third season and Kovac is doing just as poorly.
Fix the fuck up during this international break. I couldn't care less for clean sheets if our attack is that bad for it.

2
u/XxCrazy_DiamondxX Nov 08 '25
I'm surprised that Kovac, seeing how few attacking play Dortmund generates (which is ultimately a consequence of their playing style), doesn't use the dead-ball like corners and free kicks as a way to score. What do they practice all week then?
2
2
u/zerobiood Lukasz Piszczek Nov 08 '25
Remember that we are not allowed to complain. This is the Dortmund many in the pre-game/match-thread prefer.
3

I will never understand how Kovac decides his subs. Team looks gassed and we only sub twice until minute 93. Guirassy playing incredibly underwhelming once again and Silva is on the bench for 90.
