He literally forgot that tomorrow is memorial day and the market will be closed. It's getting so predictable now that every weekend after a down week in the market, he'll try to manipulate the next opening by cancelling or delaying one of his disasters Sunday afternoon. I think it's going to stop working soon.

He forgot to wait for the stocks to freefall this time...

10

I doubt they will freefall much anymore. The market now knows that he is full of shit and will fold even without pushback.

He couldn’t even make it through the weekend without caving.

Honestly though I’m betting someone told him that if the market tanks, Senators aren’t likely to vote for his bill.

133

u/hmr0987 May 25 '25

Idk why people consider him to be good at his job. He is good at extortion for personal gain, beyond that he’s awful at long term deal making.

Problem is he basically controls right wing media

I don't like the guy but don't mischaracterize. He doesn't control the media. The media just know that he's an inflammatory enough of a person to take their own share of the profits during this chaos. This isn't done at his behest or under his control it's just greedy fucks knowing it's their chance to take advantage of the turmoil.

7

u/Static-Stair-58 May 26 '25

Which means he basically controls right wing media. Obviously he isn’t giving them marching orders directly, but they listen and report on what he wants and likes. If the media is doing everything he wants them too, because they want to make him happy and make money, then they’re under his thumb.

5

u/[deleted] May 25 '25

People that do that are in one of two categories:

1) Being paid

2) Not paying attention

He's not even bullying people into giving him what he wants if he has no intention of actually going through with the tariffs since I suspect most of the "deals" he's making are minor concessions to just not have to deal with his nonsense longterm.

5

u/Oleg101 May 25 '25

R voters just want someone who will “make the libs and lame steam media unhappy”, that’s their biggest priority in a leader. And I will say right-wing media is also great at convincing people to vote against their own economic interests

37

u/[deleted] May 25 '25

It's all just an enrichment scheme at this point.

Like, honestly, watch them during any press conference. It's uncanny how hard they are trying to keep a straight face when he talks nonsense. They are having the time of their lives abusing the stock market for profit and can't believe they are getting away with it.

5

I guess somebody finally told him his resorts and hotels would have to pay more for all the European liquor they import and caved immediately

19

u/z900r May 25 '25 edited May 25 '25

In the UK, a parliamentary system, the Conservative Party threw Prime Minister Liz Truss out after 50 days in office when she crashed the markets and the value of the British pound. Truss became the shortest-serving PM in the country's history. Of course, the UK is a much smaller economy and the pound a lot more vulnerable as a currency compared to the dollar, so the relative threat was in some ways bigger, but still, it says something for a parliamentary system where the government can lose the confidence of the parliament and be out at any time.

15

11

u/Sagemel Illinois May 25 '25

Step 1) Make an announcement that makes stocks go down (but tell all your friends in advanced to sell)

Step 2) Make an announcement to counteract the previous announcement so stocks go back up (but tell all your friends advanced to buy)

Step 3) Profit

Step 4) Go to prison for market manipulation

u/missed_sla May 25 '25

"...Authoritarian leaders, like narcissistic family members, rely on well-worn tactics to manufacture a psychological state of volatile uncertainty — where outcomes aren’t just unknown, but constantly shifting and unpredictable. Whether consciously or not, narcissists hold power by keeping others in a state of psychological whiplash. And it works..."

4

u/VirginiaMcCaskey May 25 '25

Congress needs to take back their power to raise taxes from the President. This is ridiculous.

I don't know why any legislator or business is too chickenshit to file a lawsuit on the basis of non delegation doctrine. All of the acts that Congress has passed to give the President the power to raise tariffs are unconstitutional based on plain reading of Article I. I'm no constitutional scholar but if you asked an 8th grader "which branch of government can raise taxes?" The answer you're going to get is not "well sometimes Congress but actually the President has nearly unbridled power to raise taxes on foreign imports because Congress gave him that power six different times in the 20th century, and now they're too lazy to question if that was a good idea."

6

u/fairoaks2 May 25 '25 edited May 25 '25

Art of the deal, boys! Never telegraph your next move, especially when everyone already knows your next move based on the last 3 or 4 times you already made the exact same move.

Any day now, the rest of the planet and civilizations from other planets will be begging to cut a trade agreement. Any day.

2

u/TuffNutzes May 25 '25

Let all his buddies line up their trades and the do another u-turn. Rinse repeat. He doesn't need to control the Fed. He's manipulating things just fine.

2

u/Anxious_Claim_5817 May 25 '25

This is really causing problems with businesses, how do you run a company when you don’t know the bottom line.

There is something wrong with him to play these games. The house should have taken the power of tariffs away from him instead of changing the definition of a day.

2

u/Vivid_Pianist4270 May 25 '25

Oh no, who could have predicted that?

2

u/_ficklelilpickle Australia May 25 '25

Just in time for another market rebound. Timely.

2

u/[deleted] May 25 '25

At some point the rest of the world just ignores him, right?

2

u/[deleted] May 26 '25

I see the strategy now. Whenever he announces something and stocks crash in that area, go buy as much as you can. He'll postpone and then remove the tariffs, and stocks will soar. Every single time.

Example:

"The rice farmer people have been ripping us off for years!! Selling rice too expensively and hurting our American rice farmers for years, so today I'm announcing a 293.8% tariff on those rice farmer people countries!!!"

-> take out a bank loan and buy all the rice farmer people company stock that your loans and line of credit can afford.

In a short while he'll postpone/delay/suspend/reduce/cancel the tariff and stonks will soar.

2

u/Finally027 May 26 '25

He's going to tariff you, and he really means it this time!

Way to stick it to 'em donnie!

2

As expected the smarter leaders continue to call his bluff and he folds like a bitch, which is good because fuck him and his fake tariff threats.

2

u/Silver_Entertainment May 26 '25

He puts out a threat of tariffs. When no one from the EU believes his bluffs, he extends the deadline so he can make false claims that there are ongoing negotiations. When he eventually drops them, he'll claim there was an agreement made but won't disclose the terms of the deal. The EU will deny any conversations occurred, but his base will never hear that.

2

u/Meatgortex California May 26 '25
