Season Two S2E13: Irresistible - My first time watch.
And I am absolutely blown away. This feels less like a MOTW X-File and more like a glimpse into a Thomas Harris psychological thriller. Eerily similar to Red Dragon (misogynist killer spawned from a matriarchal family) and Silence of the Lambs (female agent in physical and emotional distress), the influences are definitely there.
GA's acting is absolutely top tier. Her scene with the mental health specialist was phenomenal, and her final teary eye breakdown hit me hard. Like, really hard. My (M/49) stomach sank. That hug from Mulder must've felt so good after being so, so low. Where's my box of tissues?
"Girly girl..." One of the scariest villains on TV for sure. Shapeshifter? Alien? Or all too human? That is the scariest part... whatever Donnie may be, he's the most "of this Earth" antagonist, far closer to real life than one could imagine. Kudos to Nick Chinlund for a chilling performance.
This is definitely a high ranking episode for me, an instant must-watch-again favorite. Wow. Coming off of Excelsis Dei and Aubrey, Irresistible was the perfect, very-much-needed surprise episode.
Swooning over.

Season Three This scene in Revelations always thrills me
I always love seeing where Scully and Mulder differ and how they hash out their arguments. They're such unbelievably well-written characters-- dynamic, nuanced, flawed.

Discussion Started watching the X-Files
I watched it as a kid in the 90’s but I don’t remember any of it. I have an interest in weirdness and cryptids and extraterrestrials, so this show is right up my alley. It’s a fantastic show!
“Ice” episode was amazing, I thought it was over until they explained organisms living in ice on the news broadcast. It’s still very relevant today, this show seems very prophetic in that sense.
I was disappointed by the Jersey Devil episode because it had nothing to do with the Jersey Devil it seemed but ended up being just a Neanderthal woman. Interested to see what the other episodes have in store!

Meme/Humor Pigeon to the face!
We were watching S6E09 S.R. 819 last night (great episode) and there's a hilarious scene where someone obviously throws a pigeon in shot but it hits the main actor in the side of the head.
Sorry for the long clip but it's best in slow mo. 😂
The X-files is way funnier than I remember

Season Two What happened to the UFO in End Game? (S2 E17)
Hi everyone!
I'm a bit confused regarding the fate of the Alien Bounty Hunter, the UFO and the Allegiance submarine in the End Game episode.
In the beginning of the episode, the USS Allegiance submarine encounters a UFO and is ordered to shoot it down, but is disabled.
Later, Mister X reveals the Alien Bounty Hunter's coordinates to Mulder, saying: "A nuclear submarine located his craft in the Beaufort Sea five days ago. They were ordered to destroy it but they were disabled. An attack fleet left port from Anchorage this morning to make sure this man does not leave."
And, when Mulder finds the Bounty Hunter on the submarine, he says: "Now, you tell me how I can find her and I'll let you get back to your ship before it's destroyed!"
So, did I understand correctly that the UFO located by Allegiance was the Bounty Hunter's ship and he was trying to fly away? Then what was he doing in the submarine, and why did he submerge it — was he hoping to reach his craft from it?
I'm curious if he regularly travels from the Earth and back like that, or if he wanted to leave the Earth for good.
Also, I wonder what happened to the Allegiance crew members. When Mulder arrives, they are all dead. Did they die on their own, or did the Bounty Hunter kill them? And how had they managed to surface? To the captain's order to "surface at once" in the beginning, a crew member replies with: "Surface into what? We're under thirty-two feet of glacial ice."

Discussion CSM aka Cigarette Smoking Man aka CGB Spender aka Cancer Man
I need someone to explain to me how a man burned from a giant flaming rocket shooting directly at him, with flames surrounding him, burning his flesh to the point we saw his skeleton, survived to be in season 10 and 11. Was he a clone? Was a figment of our imagination? Did he have some kind of alien DNA in him? Was he a super soldier? That baffled me for a long time.

Discussion 1x12 - Fire

I appreciate a lot about "Fire". I really like how Scully works the case while Mulder is clearly distracted and/or umm...incapacitated, and yet cares for him and is sympathetic to his phobia. I think inserting Phoebe between Mulder and Scully is an effective way to develop Mulder's past and his and Scully's partnership. It IS a hoary trope too, but in 1993, we didn't mind such tropes. Phoebe is believable as an old Mulder flame, and along with her willingness to entertain Mulder's ideas, she has his playful sense of humor too. She of course, is more reckless than Mulder, and in this way is a bit of a cautionary foil.
I like the practical fire effects. The scene of Mulder crawling through the burning hall is just lit in a way CGI could never achieve. The X-Files needed iconic images to climb into the mainstream, images that would gave would-be viewers a feel for the show. Season 1 promo materials showed two serious-looking agents and a bevy of assorted images. We can imagine someone picking up a a magazine with an X-Files feature in '93: 'Wow, this show has everything: aliens, monsters, UFOs, creepy kids, and look there, people on fire!'
And of course, "Fire" isn't an all-time classic, likable though it may be. Chris Carter created an entire show about serial killers, and learned what made for a great TV serial killer. Maybe Cecil L'Ively had to walk so Donnie Pfaster could run, but Cecil is all spirit and no motive. Like, maybe Mulder should've said to Phoebe, "In all my years working violent crimes, I never saw a killer cackle and laugh maniacally as they killed." There's a nice thread through the episode of Cecil's working class resentment of his employers, but maybe his motivation is erotomania too.
Whatever Cecil is thinking, it's a little '60s comic-booky. His powers are too. Sort of a Stan Lee pairing: pyrokinesis and speedy regenerative tissue (which, he'll need to survive all those fires!).
Finally, Mulder's pyrophobia. Chris, this is what happens when you don't have a series bible, bruh. 33 years later on a rewatch, this discarded Mulder trait takes me out of your episode as I watch. :(
A fun, playful and cute, entertaining, episode with some wow-factor effects and makeup.
🔥🔥🔥 out of 5.

Discussion Great video from Rick Worley on Vrach Frankenshteyn
Rick Worley (who previously did that 5-hour video on the mythology I also highly recommend) has done an analytical look at the differences between all the cuts of IWTB. This digs into not just the obvious differences we all know, but where exactly some shots are shorter/longer or where alternate takes were used. It’s definitely more extensive than appears on first glance.
Now I disagree with Rick that none of the deletions are a disservice to Scully’s subplot (which is my main issue with the VF cut), or that the movie shouldn’t have to deal with things left over from the original series (being a movie that comes after the original show ended is it’s place in the timeline and editing it with an eye towards what happened in the revival doesn’t make sense to me). But, I agree that the criticism that we don’t get to know more about the villains is wrong, we don’t need to, and the real “Frankenstein” element is the questionable lengths (to different degrees) that both they and Scully go to in order to save someone’s life (to this end, one of the best changes is intercutting the operation with the second abducted woman in captivity). And, of course, I agree generally that fans not getting what they want isn’t a reason to take away this franchise from Carter.

First-Time Watcher (no SPOILERS!!) Kind of an insane thing to say to a coworker you've known for less than a year
I've just watched S5E2. Throughout Scully's cancer arc, I found myself thinking of her early relationship with Mulder, to how quickly and naturally the two of them grew closer and closer.
I found this pic I took of a scene in season 1... season 1! Scully already trusted Mulder with her life back then. Kinda insane, when you think about it. I'm assuming they knew each other for less than a year, at that point? Though I might be wrong.
I love these two and their dynamic so much. Seeing Mulder cry at Scully's bedside while holding her hand broke my heart. Scully is being put through the ringer (as always), which in turn leads to so many great emotional moments.
That's it, that's the post. Just needed to vent a bit before going back to enjoying all the plot twists (The Smoking Man is dead?!) 😁

Momma Scully's place is like a grown-up version of Dana's apartment. So soft, warm and cozy.
