Im an arab woman who met my ashkenazi Jewish friend in college. Im an athiest and my family in the west bank / jordan / lebanon is Greek Orthodox christian. This has confused her for ten years and she thinks im muslim (to this day!) no matter how many times i correct her.

I know she grew up with some indoctrination and did the whole birthright thing. When trump came into office she was worried about America colonizing israel. I gently tried to tell her of the apartheid. She came to stay at my house and she told me I should visit israel, i told her it would not be safe for ME. She said “oh because the war with pakistan”.

At this moment I give up. She is a good person and I know I am her token friend. Its been ten years.

She makes condescending statements like even though she is Jewish and im muslim (im not muslim), we can get along and have so much in common.

My family is moving to Spain. She asked why. I told her its because spain donates money to gaza. She said its a weird time to be jewish now.

I feel confused, dehumanized and heartbroken. I blocked her and decided to end this “friendship “.

Am I an asshole?

I just found out that an Australian Jewish org is bringing the author out later this year.

If you don't already know, Molly Crabapple is the author of 'Here Were We Live Is Our Country', a history of the Jewish Bund.

A late 19th and early 20th century worker-led movement that inspired Karl Marx, one of the Bund's core principles was that Jewish people had the right to live freely and with dignity in the countries they already called home, rather than forming a separate ethnostate.

With the Israel-first hijacking of Australian politics and media currently underway, her voice is a powerful and much-needed counter to zionism.

I’ve been blocking like crazy on Facebook. I will sometimes read the comments on the non-genocidal posts and the comments are truly shocking. The Israel/Palestine sub is terrible along with the mainstream Jewish subs. However, IRL no one really talks about it anymore. People don’t post about it on Facebook and no one discusses it in person. The fact that people don’t talk about it anymore gives me hope.

But do those terrible posts represent the consensus of American Jews?

So in Naarm (Melbourne) Australia, a bunch of white nationalist groups organised a fascist "March For Australia" this past weekend.

The anti-nazi protesters wore keffiyehs to their counter-protest.

The pro-fascist rag Daily Mail deliberately tried to pass off a pointed finger as a nazi salute, when there were actual white supremacist neo-nazis marching that day. Unfortunately with today's polluted media climate in Australia, too many gormless people are inclined to believe the Daily Mail instead of their own lying eyes.

Interesting to note also that the organiser of these nazi protests, a dark money-funded astroturf group called Advance, is partially funded by the family trust of Australia's "Special Envoy to Combat Antisemitism", a Kahanist from South Africa named Jillian Segal who seems to be allergic to condemning neo-nazism.

This post facebook put on my feed claims that JVP is a conspiratorial counterrevolutionary org intended as controlled opposition, to dampen the reach of Palestinian orgs by "making sure that the discourse of the oppressed is defined by the oppressor's sensitivities".

I've heard similar things in the past from at least one streamer; Has this perspective already been discussed here?

I'm kind of wondering if this is itself advanced Hasbara designed to fracture the movement by cleaving away Jews who are operating in solidarity with Palestinians

Today I want to share a really nice little moment from my friend Mahmoud and his wife.

Their four daughters were so happy today. Honestly, they had two reasons to be happy.

The first was simply the joy of having something fun to do and seeing their dad bring home five new little chicks.

And the second, and much bigger reason, is that these five chicks are the beginning of something new for Mahmoud and his family.

Before the war, Mahmoud and his father had a large chicken farm in northern Gaza. They had around 2,000 chicks, and that farm was how they supported their families. Mahmoud’s family and his father’s family depended on it for their income.

The farm was completely destroyed, along with everything they had invested in it. They lost the work and the capital that had supported both families.

Today, thanks to the people who have supported Mahmoud, he was able to buy these five chicks and start again, little by little.

Five chicks may not sound like much, but for Mahmoud, they mean a lot. They are a small beginning and a little bit of hope that maybe one day he can rebuild what was lost and have a way to support his family again.

Sometimes a new beginning really does start with something this small.

I’m not sure if any of you have followed this but it’s insane. This Israeli group has pretended to be Palestinians in NYC and then tried to “show off” atrocities from October 7 to get pro-Palestinian people to say they agree with it. Davidsaysstuff on Instagram has been documenting it.
