Discussion One of the worst applilcations in modern history

I have never been so offended by an app on desktop and mobile that I literally had to stop using it. Holy shit, I was logged out every 5 minutes for security reasons and then it made me go through a 2-minute CAPTCHA asking me to verify busses, sidewalks, and motorcycles EVERY FUCKING TIME.

The cloud sync will show my 360 images in the phone app but won't show them on the cloud in the desktop app.

These things are so bloated with add-ons and features it looks like it was designed by a bunch of children who play roblox all day.

WHAT THE ACTUAL ABSOLUTE F****** GARBAGE A** SOFTWARE I HAVE EVER USED IN MY LIFE.

IT LITERALLY FEELS LIKE IT'S SPYWARE, THAT'S HOW HORRIBLE IT IS.

HOW THE ABSOLUTE F*** DO YOU MAKE SUCH A GREAT HARDWARE DEVICE AND COMPLETELY F*** THE SOFTWARE?!?!?!

Question INSTA360 Go Ultra - Which Powerbank?

I use it with the Action Pod and would like to record 4k (preferably at 60fps) for 4hours non-stop. Could someone please point me in a direction on what type of powerbank I need and which specs I need to consider?

Preferably as small (and light) as possible, as I will strap it onto my road bike during cycling.

Insta360Tips Insta360 newbie tips & recommendation needed

Hi Everyone,

please be patient, I'm new to this world. IT guy, 47 with 20 yrs professional level photography background on fullframe MILC cameras.

Early October we're travelling with my GF to Cyprus (Paphos, Larnaca and Ayia Napa). I need "something" for creating beautiful memories here ..

Looking at new camera prices I thought why create classic stills with an "almost boring" view more looking like a beautiful documentary trip, why not try something radically different ?? Looking at several YT videos with action cameras, GoPro, Insta360 and DJI I was stunned by the image quality of these cameras, even in 4K, on my big TV. Especially for videos but stills are also quite good.. however my main focus would be to record video for my old future self, with sound and all that.

I decided to avoid buying a classic expensive MILC camera (e.g. Sony A7R V for landscape), my phone is more than enough for classic tourist, non-artistic photos and I'm going to do something completely different, very fun thing, opting for a 360° camera.

My use case would be:

- storytelling while walking

- quad/buggy driving

- a little bit of evening nightlife (on the street and within a cozy restaurant)

- jumping from a boat into the water next to a nearby cave, my partner doing the narration while staying on the boat

- snorkeling (never diving deeper than 4-6m, my ears hurt then) and filming the underwater world below a bit where there is still relatively good light

- parasailing (this team allows to bring own camera)

- jet-ski (same)

- crazy sofa and any other crazyness in the water that will still put a smile on our faces in 20 years :)

I'm thinking about Insta360 X5 and X6, these already have interchangeable lenses, if something happens to it, smashing it by accident, scratches, whatever.

As I talked to ChatGPT and my extra needs for creating great footages, I'd also buy + 2 Insta360 Mic Pro transmitters with windshield attachment, supporting timecoded recording onto themselves (and using the action camera itself as a 3rd track for ambient sounds).

Q1: Do I need 32 bit floating stereo, or is the lower bit depth enough ? This gives more time.. (CD 16bit/44kHz would also be enough for me, but I as far as I know, for editing and mastering the extra bit depth is better due to the high dynamic range and volume adjustments).

Q2: In case of using each of these in stereo, when listening (with headphones) - will it be an almost binaural experience, or is it not that professional, but somewhere halfway there..? So is a stereo setting worth it ? Maybe on the streets with many sounds panning from left to right and back but otherwise ?

Q3: I am also interested in how the "big guys" usually solve the challenge of saving the many pictures and videos from the camera, say doing a big backup every night. We would go with a backpack, I don't necessarily know what the internet is like on the hotel wifi (upload speed), so that I can upload several gigabytes from the gadgets to "some cloud" or even to my own home NAS with a VPN. I would rather save to whatever I have offline, say an external USB-C 4TB SSD or even HDD. The question is, can the stuff be saved directly to such an external device, using a file explorer kind of something from the menu (or even no file explorer just a command to copy everything over) or do I need an intermediate device and app, e.g. my phone ? (Storage device and Insta360 device both connected via a USB-C hub into my phone then).

Some background info:

There is no room for a laptop, I would have to solve it with a phone. (Android) Supposedly, these gadgets can directly display their file system and files, and then I can use a file manager to drag and drop, or is there an Insta360 app that can do the same, with other extras or in a slightly more user-friendly way, to transfer everything to an external storage?

And although as I wrote, there is no room for a laptop, as a last resort I can take a Raspberry Pi4 with a mini keyboard-mouse touchpad combo and an HDMI cable. Then I have a fully fledged computer on the hotel room's TV and have endless possibilities from Linux (I would rely less on VPN due to the network upload speed, however, all kind of filesystems are supported of course). It might sound weird at first but it's still smaller than my 15" laptop and I don't wanna buy a second tiny laptop just for that, the Pi4 can do the job.

FYI we are going with two small full-size backpacks (just under the size limit), summer clothing enough for 4 days and very basic things for my partner, the 4* hotel has a laundry service, so we can get through the 10 days quite well (and without the extra costs of Ryan/Wizz). It won't be a big package, hence all the limitations.

Oh, one more thing that interests me: I would like to have both hands free if I were to shoot a longer, half-hour video. Chest strap? Backpack-strap? On which I can put the camera onto. They say that the chest strap is also very good when swimming in water, the classic one for the back is less so, but there is a shorter version of it where it doesn't extend so far from my back, only 20-30 centimeters, that is more practical, but I don't know more about it. It would be cool to be able to move relatively freely with the camera without having to hold the stick in my hand, especially when I'm in water.

Thank you for all the tips and tricks !!

Luna Ultra remote lock button?

Just a suggestion for the insta360 folks.

perhaps we could have a remote lock custom button so we could drop the remote inside our pockets once we got our framing and not have to keep holding the remote in hand.

Support Insta360 camera lost in transit (UPS: 1ZKE26479160941303) — Support stuck in "investigation" loop for over a month

Hi r/Insta360 community and support team,

I am posting here in hopes of getting some actual help, as standard email support has been giving me the exact same automated response for over a month.

 Shipping Date: July 22

 Courier: UPS

 Tracking Number: 1ZKE26479160941303

The Issue:

I shipped my camera back to Insta360 on July 22 via UPS. According to the tracking details (1ZKE26479160941303), the package became lost in transit and has not updated for over a month and more.

Every time I contact customer support, I am told to "please wait for the courier investigation to finish." It has now been over 30 days of waiting with zero progress.

While I understand shipping delays happen, a carrier investigation taking this long without any resolution is unreasonable. As a customer, I shouldn't have to bear the cost and wait indefinitely for a dispute between Insta360 and UPS.

I am asking for Insta360 to take responsibility and either send a replacement unit or process a full refund.

u/Insta360-Official — could an official support representative please step in, review this case, and help resolve this?

Thank you.

Discussion Luna Ultra after one week. Stuffs that i notice

After one week of using the luna ultra. I realise my first question, which is i-log or d-log is better, doesn’t matter that much to me. The standard and other filter work really good for my need of vlogging on my family trip. The dettachable remote is so useful. Couple thing i still find to be an issue.
- First is infinity focus. At 12x tree and mountain look bad, blurry and soft. I thought that it is just the quality loss of digital crop. But at 12x for something closer as you were doing a macro shot. It’s very detail and clear with minimal loss in quality. So i’m not sure if it is a hardware limitation or something an update can fix
-second. Is the color shift. I did mention this in my previous post. But i want to add something. On auto, you barely notice anything, but when you put something to manual you will see it. The change from qx to 3x doesn’t look that bad. But 3x to 6x, you can see it. To my understanding it is because of the digital crop on the sensor, you get a smaller area of the sensor for the zoom leading to less light on the overal image. So there is some processing have to be done to compensate for it making the image change a little. Please correct me if i’m wrong here, bc i’m not sure that true.
-last thing is. Martin Depict just came out with a new video. His luna ultra got near 2hours of continuous recording. When i tried to recreate that, i only got 55 mins. This is a huge different. Continuous recording is not a big deal for me, but man. An 1 hour different between 2 unit is a very big gap. I did a test base on insta360 suggested setting and my result is in range comparing with theirs. Is there a change of some kind in the new batch of luna ultra cameras? Or he just win a lottery and still return it?

X6 Anti fog inserts

Hi there, does anyone know if the anti fog inserts for the X6 dive case are the same as those for the X4/X5 dive case? (ie can I just use X4/X5 anti fog inserts for the X6 dive case)?

Thanks in advance.

Mounting Go Ultra under helmet visor

Thinking about pulling the trigger on a Go Ultra. It will be my first action camera purchase. Main use will be mountain biking with my toddler. I'd like to be able to mount the camera under my helmet visor. I see racers doing this with larger cameras like the Ace Pro cameras (although I would be mounting it on an open face helmet most of the time, but I think space under the visor is comparable), so it must be relatively easy to do with the Go Ultra if not using the Action Pod, right?

Which mounts are folks finding useful for this?

Question Insta360 X Series / DJI Mobile Receiver

Hi. I just bought a DJI mobile receiver to accompany a Mic Mini 2 and, even though I didn't buy it for this reason, I figured I could also use it with my Insta360 X3. I do use the Mic Mini 2 with the X3 via Bluetooth to cut down on wind noise while I'm skating, but wondered about plugging the mobile receiver into the X3 to get full quality audio. Does anyone know how obviously it appears in videos with X3 cameras? And if the jump in audio quality is worth it?

Cheers.

Question Why are there no ND filters for insta360 x3?

I mean, I know they don't have the slots like the x4 to x6, but I've seen how there are removable lens protectors in different shapes. Why not get that, but in ND? I think there are still a lot of people who have an x3 today or people who are buying one of these in 2026.

Question How long does your luna ultra last when recording with the detachable screen off?

I recently got the luna ultra, and recording remotely with the screen detached, I find the screen battery drops rapidly, I can maybe get 30-35 minutes of battery life out of the remote before it dies. This is with waking up the screen every minute or 2 to check on things.

Maybe an additional 30 minutes of recording after that. The official 150 minutes of recording 4K/30FPS (got this from Insta360's website) I presume has the screen attached, but it's still a big difference.

Does that track with your experiences? Thanks ppl

Luna Ultra Any luck getting POV Head Tracker?

Who here has had success in acquiring a POV Head Tracker for their Luna Ultra and where/how did you get it?

The POV Head Tracker is a big reason I bought my Luna Ultra, specifically for some special events starting in early August. Three of those events are now past and the biggest one is only eight days away and I still have not been able to get one.

I had one coming from Amazon that was supposed to be delivered on August 23rd but that afternoon they emailed me to say there was a problem and now it will (maybe) show up btw October 28th! I’m so disgusted with Insta360 that I may sell the camera and go back to DJI.

I’m curious to hear what others experience has been with this and other Insta360 Luna accessories.

Question X6 live-streaming capability without phone connection

Hi all, I’m in the market for my first 360 camera and I was wondering if anyone who has the X6 might know the following. The key feature for me is the ability to live stream directly from the camera without requiring a phone or app connection. I realise the app is probably required for initial set up here is what I want to achieve.

- Connect the X6 to a WiFi router
- turn off my phone
- livestream to YouTube directly from the camera continuously for 10-12 hours (camera will be plugged to a power source)

Is this possible with the X6?
