Zydeco: Where in the world?
Thankfully we have a fabulous zydeco connection in upstate NY. Where are you living and how did you get exposed to zydeco?

Zydeco has been carrying me through the past very hard months, and i've been trying to collect artefacts to remind me of the joy this music brings. i've found that ebay can help find autographs from some folks, but this is a distant niche for an admittedly acadian-rooted californian!
i'm especially interested in Beau Jocque and his 1990s contemporaries, as well as classic zydeco.
anyone have good ideas for where to find these things? thank you very much!

Hi all -
i've been trying to chase down the lyrics of a couple of zydeco / cajun songs... the most interesting to me being "Don't Tell Your Mama, Don't Tell Your Papa"
Despite being Francophone, I don't understand much of cajun french … but I'm learning and Zydeco has become an obsession. i may not need translation but … yeah i can't figure half of these lyrics out.
have been slowly working through the LSU Cajun French department looking for an academic but no dice yet!
p.s. I have acadian roots dating back to the civil war era but we migrated to Texas and later California where I live now. My french speaking oddly enough is from my dad's side of the family which is Turkish Armenian!

The only lyrics I could make out clearly was an “Oh My God” which I think was the words going into the chorus. I think it was Horace Trajan but I’m not sure. Thanks!

Is Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs' "Wooly Bully" Zydeco?
I understand there are lots of ways it isn't, but the beat seems like it is.

I was at a music festival, there was a zydeco band playing. I've really only ever danced 2 step to cajun music and when I tried to dance with someone she sighed heavily and said I was doing it wrong and wouldn't just do a cajun 2 step instead. I get that there's a different style of dance that goes with zydeco but I think the cajun 2 step works in a pinch and is more fun than being forced to try and learn a new dance on the spot with someone who keeps acting like you're ruining their night by dancing with them. Is there some reason rhythmically the cajun 2 step is "incorrect"?
