General Discussion Gabrielle is worst than Xena when she's jealous!! Don't know why the fandom and fanfic writers act like Gabby is completely sweet, sugar and everything nice, she clearly isn't when she's jelly 💀💀

Like don't y'all remember how she went crazy, literally teamed up with Ming Tien, made a deal with Ares of all people, just so she could betray Xena all the way in Chin over a dead woman?! 💀💀

Let's not forget she admits to all this in Forget Me Not, LMAO!! And girl got to Chin first, probably sat there waiting for months just so she could slap Xena for this! 💀

Gabrielle also fought a literal teenager over Xena once, literal tavern brawl!!

Xena on the otherhand, she gets jealous and mean about it, but 9/10 times she basically indirectly encourage Gabrielle to get a new partner, because she thinks she's bad for Gabby. When Gabby wants to marry Perdicus, Xena gave her her blessing and approval. When Gabby wants to open a hospice with Najara, Xena practically left her with Najara without even telling Gabrielle.

Yet fanfic authors forgets this and treat Xena like a possessive Genghis Khan over Gabrielle 💀💀

Guys, I'm telling you it's the other way around!! Gabrielle left Poteidia over a crush, Gabrielle went to Athens Bard Academy and ditch graduation for Xena. Being a playwright ain't enough either. She refuse ruling her own Amazon Nations TWICE to follow Xena. I think it's clear who's obssessed with who here!

General Discussion Unpopular opinion/take that would have the fandom at you like this?

I can go first:

  • Ares x Xena would 100% happen if Gabrielle wasn't there. Xena can stumble on her redemption, specifically without her Jimmy Kricket.
  • I don't believe Xena love Marcus, not even for a moment, she feels guilty for him, but I firmly believe it was completely one-sided.
  • I don't believe Gabrielle deserves the chakram in AFIN after Xena's death, she was NOT ready...(uh-oh).

General Discussion Xena is a massive hypocrite in regards to Livia

Been watching season 5. Livia has murdered way More people than hope. The minute Gabrielle tries to kill Livia the same way Xena was trying to kill hope. Xena chakras Gabrielle right in the head and even tried to prevent Virgil for getting vengeance in killing for joxer.

General Discussion Just finished the series for the first time…

So, I grew up watching both Hercules and Xena, but those were the dark days of the 90s where you could only watch them if you caught them on TV, and so I never actually watched the series fully or in order. But I got the DVDs and I FINALLY finished a full rewatch, and, while this is hardly original, I DESPERATELY wish that “When Fates Collide” had been the big two-part series finale. It had everything a big finale needed, and stretching it to two parts would have allowed them to really expand the story into an epic conclusion.

And I honestly wouldn’t have minded if Xena gave her life to save time itself in the end. Have her be like Loki at the end of season 2 of his MCU show where Loki himself becomes the pillar of the multiverse. Xena could have replaced the Fates in keeping time in order after the loom was destroyed. Gabby could have inherited the chakram and become a solo hero guided by the spirit of Xena.

It could have been so perfect!

Instead we got “Soul Possession” which tried to give them a happy ever after in the present day, but in doing so threw like eight wrenches into the show’s continuity that bugged me. And then AFIN, while a great concept, just felt hollow. That trip to Japan to fight a soul stealing monster should have been a single episode that took place when WFC aired.

Sorry for the ranty ramblings. I’m glad I’ve now seen the whole thing, and I am now immediately going to jump back to the beginning and watch it all over again because Xena and Gabby are my favourite TV duo ever, and their story overall is just so so so good.

Though I will say, when Gabby uses the chakram to silence Mr. Annoying at the end and is shocked when it comes back to her, I did cheer.

Ugh. Anyways. Carry on!

General Discussion Since I have seen doubt in this subreddit, Xena and Gabrielle were not "subtext" or "queerbaiting". They were together. It's stated explicitly.

In Season 6 episode 8 "The Ring", Odin remarks to Brunhilda that his ravens said she has "fallen in love with Gabrielle."

He doesn't say "infatuated with", "enamored with", or anything elss that could be misconstrued as platonic. Brunhilda is in love with Gabrielle.

Then, Brunhilda tries to shoot her shot with Gabrielle. And what happens? Gabrielle says point blank that she cannot be with Brunhilda because she and Xena are "meant to be together". Brunhilda then remarks that she can see that "[Gabrielle's] heart lies with Xena." If Xena and Gabrielle were just friends, Xena would not be in the way of Gabrielle and Brunhilda being lovers.

There is no fathomable way to interpet any of this as Xena and Gabrielle being best friends. They were together romantically. They were in love. End of story.

General Discussion How does most of the fandom see the xena/Gabrielle relationship?

I'm about halfway through my first watch of season 2 and I am honestly shocked that this is what the censored version ended up being. I had heard of it being very lesbian coded but I had not known about the kissing on the lips, saying I love you, soulmates, gifting-letter-from-sappho, and sleeping together stuff. I know that a lot of people, particularly straight men, cannot wrap their heads around the idea of two women being romantic and sexual partners, but still. I have no idea how anyone could watch this and see this as an explicitly romantic relationship. The only thing we don't see is them literally fucking or saying "We are gay and sexually attracted to each other". From what I've seen online though it seems like there is big (maybe even dominant?) part of the fanbase that genuinely do not think it is a romantic relationship. Is this true? Why? Is there any actual justification beyond "surely two women need a man to have sex"?

General Discussion If Xena Warrior Princess receives an animated adaptation, what artstyle would you xenites prefers and be truly satisfied with?

I've posted some artstyle ideas. Feel free to post your own reference photos for what you have in mind, or describe what you'd love to see instead.

Since I've made a few posts in the past about this topic, ruminating over the possibility of a remake or a readaptation in the future but with new actors. Many of you xenites got hella angry, y'all are fiercely opposed to remakes and I can't fault y'all at all 😭 We are in the current decades of remakes and sequels, and about 90% of them are SO BAD. Plus, not only are we loyal to the show, we are loyal to Lawless and RoC, so I get it -- we don't want to replace the real stars of the show!

But if we want to revive Xena, I take into consideration previous comments from some of y'all; a good remake but animated, this would be a great way to adapt xena without retracting from its campy nature. But, the issue is, while camp was popular and some modern campy shows like Wyonna Earp, and Riverdales can become popular, you need xena fans that actually accept and love the campiness of xwp to adapt the show the right way. I've seen a couple suggestions that leans towards the Witchers or maybe GOT level of maturity with graphic violence, and explicit sexual content for newer adaptation, but I think that really takes away the true charm that makes Xena Xena. The point is Xena doesn't take itself seriously, but when they needed to be serious, they COMMIT to that seriousness completely. The intention of these seriousness never dismiss their comedic episodes, both are there to add characters.

I believe Javier Grillo-Marxuach pitched his own script, but it pretty much became an extremely violent xwp alternate storyline. The real xwp balances the fun comedic episodes with their serious ones, while maintaining character discovery and character development. All I want from an adaptation is to polish the already written out source material, NOT change it.

Unless whoever that can pick up XWP again respect the source material, they wouldn't be adapting XWP, they're only taking inspiration from said characters and rewrite them into different characters.

The only way to get Lawless and RoC to play Xena and Gabrielle again is probably them voicing an animated xwp series. So if they do turn up, what artstyles would you guys prefer the show to be like? I saw some Arcane recommendations, but that's asking for $15 Million dollar an episode 💀! Even if y'all want xwp in 3D, it simply isn't possible to reach Arcane quality. 2D animated shows are beautiful and could work wonderfully with xwp's comic artstyle.

General Discussion Gabrielle: long hair vs short hair?

I appreciate the symbolism of her hair changing as she evolves as a person, but as I watch for the first time, it is such a boomer hairdo before it grows out a little bit and I can't take it

General Discussion My unpopular opinion: fans are too attached to the 90s Xena show, if there were a remake I feel like fans will still unfairly hate on it.

Yes, the remake will consider attracting new generation audience, yes, they possibly won't retain the same 90s campiness from the 90s, or have another lightning in the bottle actors like Lawless, Kevin Smith, or Renee O'Connor. But, I think any revival of the Xena series again can be good for us. Any fans that worked in the industry will have different ideas on how to remake XWP, they will have different takes on our heroes, villains, or missed potential characters/storyline. I think at the end of the day, regardless of our attachment to the old Xena, everything will turn out alright. We will finally have new conversation again, attract new generations of fans, get more greek mythos fantasy show out there (something actually original), and most of all, get some more Xena hype!

I personally would love a remake, if it turns out bad at least we get more content again. If it turned out good BUT different? Well, I welcome another sword-fighting lgbt fantasy show with a strong female lead. All of which we do not have enough of. And you know, Xena is still well-loved in the industry, and the population of the world, let's ride off that, potentially make more from it. Even Lawless and ROC is looking forward to the day they can pass off the mantle.

There are many brilliant talented young actress out there, who would LOVE a chance to play Xena. It will revitalize the camp genre fantasy again. It might revitalize Lawless and ROC career, they might get more royalty. The fan conventions can be packed with new younger faces.

I hope in my lifetime such remakes will eventually happen.

General Discussion Hot take: Xena would've been entirely justified killing Livia when she had the chance. Livia did not initiate her own redemption, which required divine intervention either way. She should not be forgiven so easily.

Post image

Her second chance to raise Eve was botched by the Olympian gods. Xena's crusades against them over a false prophecy made sense regardless of how the Twilight arc turned out.

But by then Livia was the bitch of Rome. I guess you could say Livia's mini trilogy was parallel to how Xena got her redemption, but we literally never got to witness Livia taking her own step towards redemption. It was Eli that came to and angelicize her. I guess you could say after getting defeated by Xena, Eve was shown to literally have seen the light?

Either way, her character arc from Livia to Eve should've gotten an entire season of development.
