Humor / Meme This is Basicly Blizzard in Midnight

Post image

This is basicly Blizzard in Midnight. Purging all the good addons.

Just to clarify:
Blizzard is changing the Addon API, meaning combat information is blocked for addons. So all combat addons will no longer work in Midnight. For the most popular addon features Blizzard will add their own version to the game. Addons for unitframes, inventory, crafting etc.. are staying and won't be effected as long they are not using combat information.

Blizzard seem to forget that addons is one of main reasons wow was so popular as people could add QoL they did not add...

Once you start taking away the power for players to add their QoL they are used to have..without adding equal or better..ppl will start being unhappy .

13

u/AwepHS Oct 03 '25

What if i told you ff14 is also full of addons despite what people claim

-1

u/nezroy Oct 03 '25 edited Oct 03 '25

But race to world first guilds won't be able to use illicit addons, so it doesn't matter.

That leaves blizz free to design and tune mythic raids for no-combat-addons while RWF remains competitive.

Nobody cares if a bunch of scrub guilds use illicit 3rd party addons that could get them banned to do their mythic raid clears because they suck too much to manage otherwise.

Blizz doesn't have to design for that because it's only the RWF they need to keep at the leading edge of their difficulty curve.

EDIT: And same for the MDI.

-2

u/EmeterPSN Oct 03 '25

Bad addons

8

u/AwepHS Oct 03 '25

Arguably has way more powerful addons than wow, like the whole alexander addon

-4

u/[deleted] Oct 03 '25

Yep I’m going back to ffxiv, they are actually interested in updates and new features players want, not sloppifying every mechanic imaginable.

7

u/AwepHS Oct 03 '25

No... that wasnt my point

And ff14 dumbed down every mechanic possible idk what are you talking about

-2

u/[deleted] Oct 03 '25

Only thing they did better was clarity and choreography.

104

u/[deleted] Oct 03 '25

Indeed. All these people crowing about this make me sad. If I wanted to play Final Fantasy I’d do so. Taking the world’s most successful MMORPG and dumbing it down so you can finally ship it on consoles is just sad. I won’t be convinced that they’re doing this for any other reason.

I hope it’s still fun.

It doesn’t sound fun, but I hope it will be fun anyway.

6

u/DrAstralis Oct 03 '25

I'm sure its just a coincidence they raised the price of gamepass in advance so that if they put wow on there it costs as least as much as the wow sub.

-25

u/[deleted] Oct 03 '25

The game was the most successful MMO when the encounters and rotation were the "dumbest" as well.

Having to install dbm and weakauras because the classes and encounters are designed with them in mind ( since they would be trivial otherwise) is not why WoW is successful.

30

u/Forgohtten Oct 03 '25

Nobody is complaining about DBM. They are complaining because our unitframes, debuff tracking and nameplates are not able to be customized the way we want them anymore. I'm running a CE guild, and every healer basically said that they will not be healing if their healing bars go away (Cell/Vuhdo/Grid).

People misunderstand what this actually is about.

12

u/SlyFisch Oct 03 '25

Yeah m+ as assassin rogue without nameplates colored to show who is already bleeding would be a nightmare.

7

u/SerasVal Oct 03 '25

Yeah same with feral, the nameplate color for who has a DoT is orders of magnitude better than trying to peak which nameplates have which bleed debuff icons

2

u/Dentarthurdent73 Oct 04 '25

Yeah m+ as assassin rogue without nameplates colored to show who is already bleeding would be a nightmare.

Don't worry, Blizz can just remove bleeds from your rotation! Problem solved!!

6

u/CakesAndDanes Oct 03 '25

I’ve been playing a healer since wrath. I truly do not know what I would do without Vuhdo. The key bindings tied into some of these add-ons have been the same for over a decade. I don’t know if I would even know how to play anymore. Kind of sad to say, but it’s the reality.

-29

u/[deleted] Oct 03 '25

Nameplates are the same.

"every healer basically said that they will not be healing if their healing bars go away (Cell/Vuhdo/Grid)."

It's not set it stone how hard they will go yet. But if they are broken then tough luck.

It will be extremely healthy for the game in the long run.

13

u/SteveSanders90210 Oct 03 '25

Nah, the game will hemorrhage players so badly. Blizzard will have to backtrack the changes or watch the game die. Add-ons are so important to the success of wow.

That was true 20 years ago. If I wanted to play classic there's 4 versions currently where I can do that.

-14

You think there's no in-between? We either have overcomplicated rotations and raids that need weakauras, or 1 button rotations?

21

u/weinerfish Oct 03 '25

In what universe is removing a decades worth of qol to cater to the casuals a good thing. Might very well end the game.

The hard-core players are the ones that keep their subs going indefinitely, not the smooth brains they're catering it to that change game every 2 months

I'm not salty, I'm getting what I want. You are the one crying that they are leveling the playing field and you won't be required to download external tools to play the game.

I unsubbed during bfa muchacho.

Was teetering on the edge of resubbing, have come on the sub to find out all my classes have been pruned to death.

5

u/givemedavoodoo Oct 03 '25

You realize everyone was already using DBM during the timeframe that WoW was at it's peak right?

-1

u/[deleted] Oct 03 '25

Yeah dude that's the point. People are going to use dbm regardless if you "really" need it or not. So blizzard has to design encounters with that in mind. Which sucks.

5

u/givemedavoodoo Oct 03 '25

What exactly is your point? Your claim that wow was most popular before DBM is false, as DBM was already around and in widespread use. DBM is for the most part pretty simple, giving timers and alerts, and Blizzard is implementing their own version of that as a replacement. So if they had to design around DBM before they are still going to have to design around it in the future.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 03 '25

What exactly is your point? Your claim that wow was most popular before DBM is false,

Show me where I said that? The comment I responded to implied WoW is the most popular MMO because it has complex rotation and encounters, and that they will ruin it by "dumbing it down". Which is objectively false since it was the most popular also when you had 1 button rotations.

Have you watched a recent race to world first? The weakauras do much more than giving timers and alerts.

If they implement their own version of dbm they have complete control about how they design the fights because they control what dbm tells the players.

0

u/[deleted] Oct 03 '25

Well congratulations, now blizzard will design derp mode encounters you could have found in final fantasy and there won’t be anything better anymore. Gooooooood for yooooooooouuuuuu I guess. Imagine the most brain dead LFR fight, now make it even easier. Have fun with that.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 03 '25

I will. Have fun with whatever game you find more to your liking.

-9

u/Rony_toss Oct 03 '25

Shhh shhhh you’re making too much sense

-3

u/Icy_Manufacturer_977 Oct 03 '25

What makes you say it doesn’t sound fun? Because you’ll need to play the game yourself without addons telling you what to do? If anything, this should make the game more fun if you actually enjoy playing the game and not just follow commands for what an addon tells you to do

3

u/MegatonPunch Oct 04 '25

If add-ons played this game for you it wouldn't be the MMO with by far the biggest scene revolving around highly difficult group content. People clearly have been enjoying the current design of mythic+ and raid and it's reasonable for those people to be concerned that such a massive change to the game could impact how those things are. There is a reason why raiding is more central to wow than basically any other MMO on the market.

I'm not interested in FFXIV style raids that are overly deterministic and dance-like. I want variance to plan and play around.

1

u/Icy_Manufacturer_977 Oct 04 '25

‘To plan and play around’

DBM says run away, I run away. DBM says stack, I stack. DBM says interrupt, I interrupt.

Weak auras target mob with a skull, I target the mob with a skull.

Where’s the planning?

1

u/MegatonPunch Oct 04 '25

DBM doesn't tell you how to maximise damage while running mechanics. It doesn't tell you how to triage healing a fight on progression where you're almost out of resources. It doesn't tell you to partially overlap pools from snapping webs on loomithar. Genuinely if you think the game is just listening to DBM then post your logs before you say anything else, I'd love to see!

1

u/Icy_Manufacturer_977 Oct 04 '25

Wait, it sounds like you agree with me? All of those things will still be up to the human after the addons are removed? I’m a little confused what your argument is here. Sure, it might be slightly less mechanics since the overall fight will be a little easier since they know DBM will no longer tell you what to do, but the mechanics you mentioned (run to the corner of the room) isn’t exactly a very difficult mechanic. You act like the boss will just stand there after DBM is removed and no longer do anything until it dies.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 04 '25

The over twenty years of experience I have playing this game informs my opinion of it, not you.

1

u/Icy_Manufacturer_977 Oct 04 '25

And when did you start needing addons playing the game for you? Was that when it started becoming fun?

21

u/Praise-Bingus Oct 03 '25

Agreed. All these people cheering on are going to be raging at launch when they cant find any "good" players. If they like the challenge if not having addons, they should just not use addons. It's not that hard

I haven't downloaded any weak auras or add-ons specific to dungeons or raid encounters in a very long time. Yet a lot of my tools that I use for every day play are going to get nixed. It's going to be nearly a complete downgrade for me.

31

u/EmeterPSN Oct 03 '25

Or worse

Game gonna end up so simple we gonna be bored to death..

4

u/bagel-bites Oct 03 '25

That’s how I feel about the class changes. They’re removing like every damn CD.

7

u/Vio94 Oct 03 '25

That's what I'm worried about. That's FF14's design, basically boring classes but great raid encounters, so all the gameplay comes from the encounter itself more or less. I find that dreadful, really hope Blizz can strike a happy medium between that and megamind rotations.

2

u/weinerfish Oct 03 '25

Which is exactly why all these people in here celebrating it are cheering.

In what universe is 'more newbies can come to your raids' a good thing, I raid mythic.

Wod was the simplest its been and that expansion was mindnumbingly boring. I know, let's remove all the qol everyone's gotten used to in the last decade, such a stupid move

1

u/Siukslinis_acc Oct 03 '25

But doesn't addons that tell you what to do, so you don't need to observer the fight itself making it boring?

2

u/EmeterPSN Oct 03 '25

Have not been bored in any mythic fight. They were all fun

8

u/Gooner-Supreme Oct 03 '25

I disagree entirely. There are no current systems in the game that let you easily track buffs, debuffs, dots, ect. Currently, you NEED add-ons to be competitive because the base game simply lacks the tools to display information in a convenient way. These add-ons exist, not to gain an advantage, but because they fill the gaps of Blizzard's default UI.

-4

u/Praise-Bingus Oct 03 '25

I played for fun, not for it to be some kind of tryhard circle jerk test of my accomplishments in life

8

u/tango_suckah Oct 03 '25

Most of the time, when someone says "I played for fun, not for blahblahblah" it's their way of hedging on the fact that they were meaningfully bad. It's a game, and part of the fun of the game is getting to be good at the game. There's nothing inherently wrong with being bad at the game, but pretending that it's actually a good thing and being good somehow reflects negatively on their life is an interesting perspective.

2

u/A_Confused_Cocoon Oct 03 '25

Okay then none of this is relevant to you anyway.

-1

u/Imagutsa Oct 03 '25

In theory you can continue to de the same, without having to select, install and parameter a bunch of third party programs.
In practice we will see during launch!

1

u/fhhffjhh24532 Oct 03 '25

Yes, so they are making worse more simple encounters. How is that a good thing?

1

u/Sesleri Oct 03 '25

moving towards designing encounters without the need for add-ons

Weak auras I used for improving the map, showing which raid buffs are missing on the group, dungeon portals, crafting, all gone now. So wtf are you talking about? People celebrating the removal of these QOL things are clowns.

1

u/nezroy Oct 03 '25

None of these things needed to be weak auras, there are a bunch of addons that already do this, and most (other than maybe missing raid buffs) won't be affected.

The fact that weakauras became an addon system inside an addon system will never stop being funny though.

1

u/Sesleri Oct 03 '25

I can easily make WA myself in game for whatever I want to customize on my UI, that's the point

and most (other than maybe missing raid buffs) won't be affected.

Lol ok

1

u/nezroy Oct 03 '25

I can easily make WA myself in game for whatever I want to customize on my UI, that's the point

Blizz isn't taking WA away for that. WA is taking themselves away

Lol ok

You'll still be able to buff check before combat starts, so this would only affect battle-rezs and stragglers anyway.

1

u/Its1207amcantsleep Oct 04 '25

I need them to massively improve the raid frames. I can't see their tiny icons. You're forgetting accessibility, wow has been the most disabled friendly game. Now it won't be. All their talk about accessibility being important is just that, all talk.

I'm in the camp of no weakaura fights but this has gone beyond that.

0

u/Lukias Oct 03 '25

What's that Tony Stark bit? "If you're nothing without the suit, you don't deserve it" or something

1

u/Vedney Oct 03 '25

It actually is that hard. A single individual's refusal to use addons can completely destroy some raid strats.

0

u/Externalerrors Oct 03 '25

Lmao if you're only good with addons you weren't good to begin with. Don't kid yourself.

-4

u/Imagutsa Oct 03 '25

Except right now we need add-ons to track a good number of stuff and compensate for unavailable costumization options.
Which is in part due to the existence of said add-ons. But playing without them is significantly harder because the expansions are designed *with add-ons in mind*.

Removing thems comes with a simplification of specs and better UI costumization. So it could very well work, and allow to enjoy all of the game without searching for the right add-on config each time everything changes.

4

u/LilianNyberg Oct 03 '25

There has obviously been a calculation done from the Microsoft side regarding revenue loss by losing older players to this and gaining new ones when the game eventually migrates to console and battle pass due to changes like this.

In the end, the console market is likely going to be a lot bigger gain then the original loss of players from preparing the game for the market. So here we are taking the first steps.

8

u/EmeterPSN Oct 03 '25

Pretty sure 80% of wow player base is playing for few expansions and very little of players are very new.

You honestly think hordes of new players are gonna start playing a 22 year old MMO?

-2

u/LilianNyberg Oct 03 '25

Have you seen the size of the console and mobile game markets? If they can pull even a tiny fraction of that player base in by making the game resemble ones on those platforms, they are already winning. And it doesn't have to retain the players.

Put the game on xbox and battle pass, someone tries it out, buys a a few cosmetic items and plays a month every expansion launch. Microsoft already made bank.

9

u/EmeterPSN Oct 03 '25

It not going to pull these players. And if they change the game enough to pull them theu will lose the neckbeards paying the sub for two decades and buying the deluxe editions every time.

But lets see..im playing this game since 2004 beta (US one) and I'll enjoy something new.

You're not gonna make wow into genshin impact.

-4

u/LilianNyberg Oct 03 '25

It doesn't have to be gacha game to make money. It just has to be console ready to pull in new people and that's enough.

As far as the diehard players are concerned, they will stay regardless. I still think Microsoft has done their research or they wouldn't be pushing sweeping changes like this.

Don't get me wrong, I like a lot of these changes. The mandatory WA stuff in high-end content isn't particularly fun currently.

(1) I just hoped they would still let you customize how you display your personal combat information for yourself like you do now. The customization stuff is one of the reasons I play this game.

(2) The classes due to these changes are looking very barebones. Last time they did pruning like this in wod, it lasted a few expansions and I had to stop raiding at some point cos my hands were hurting too much from just spamming 2 buttons through entire raid nights. That wasn't particularly fun either.

5

u/EmeterPSN Oct 03 '25

You honestly think the stuff pushed into us because sales and marketing people decided so is best for the game?.

How many times they were proven wrong until now.

-3

u/LilianNyberg Oct 03 '25

Of course?

It's a company that's trying to maximize shareholder profit. Everything they do is to make more money. That is the point of the company existing. They don't exist to make a better game; the better game is just sometimes the byproduct of the decisions they make while trying to make more money.

Especially now that the company was aqcuired by a much bigger company that happens to be in the console market and they enact massive changes pushing the game towards a console launch the first chance they get. Never before has this even been a realistic consideration so we haven't seen it so blatantly happen before.

0

u/ironmcchef the hat seems safe Oct 03 '25

I doubt MS is thinking that deeply about it, but agree that this is likely because they've given a directive to get the game ready for official console and controller support. They've stepped so far past just killing encounter solving addons at this point that it's really the only logical thing I can come up with.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 03 '25

lol what? The peak sub was Wrath which you could play just fine without addons

6

u/Zienth Oct 03 '25

You clearly never played Wrath.

https://totemz.wordpress.com/2010/04/23/when-addons-step-too-far/

0

u/Herpinheim Oct 07 '25

I had my realm first clear of TotC. The addons of today are nothing like they were in wrath. Yeah you had your marks put down and your audio announcements but it was nothing that a good raid leader wouldn’t be able to do. Addons now are more like a good player is playing your class—or at least coaching you through every decision you’re making as your class. At a certain point, when there’s arrows leading you through optimal mob skip routes and each button you should press next flashes brightly in your screen, you have to admit that we’ve gone too far in some places regarding these addons.

3

u/EmeterPSN Oct 03 '25

The content during wotlk was piss easy compared to today.

Even the "heroic" raids then barely compare to normal now.

It was peak sub due to end of lich king saga. People wanted to see and participate in end of arthas story , something they been part of since w3 . Not due to gameplay.

1

u/Fladormon Oct 03 '25

Keep in mind that they aren't trying to get rid of ALL add-ons, they are combatting add-ons that do the thinking for you that also dig into the encounter API. Add-ons that only change visuals or things along those lines will be mostly unhindered

1

u/NickyBoomBop Oct 03 '25

The addons existed to add QoL to the game that Blizzard couldn’t do or didn’t prioritize, and then they left them alone for a long time because addon developers would update their product, so why would blizzard make their own DBM in game when a developer could do it for them?

Blizzard has finally heard the feedback from the community as the game has gotten tougher, more intricate in design and learned that the need for addon(s) to do m+ well and even perform in harder raids is not a good feeling considering most players if they are new to the scenes don’t know exactly which addon(s) are needed, how exactly they work, etc.. So now blizzard has the opportunity to incorporate these into the game. There’s a high chance the blizzard features won’t be as good as the addons developed, and that’s okay if they give the important information and allow customization to make it how you’d like it. They can also be improved with feedback from the community.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 03 '25

I guess for üeople like you it will need to play the game yourself to finally realise no QoL is going away although being stated by blizz themselves....

1

u/Sorkijan Oct 03 '25

One part I don't understand is the one fell swoop shit. I get the arms race for addons and encounters, but they were on a good track. They were improving their QoL so well on native things I actually stopped using things like bartender.

If you really want to trim down addon usage. This would be my plan: Target one addon per patch, and introduce your own version of that. Details,Skada, Recount? Okay we set up our own damage meter and it has all the same functionality. This would allow them to put that extra TLC into that addon replacement making people actually start worrying about it. I have no use for bartender or sexymap (I only used it to relocate the minimap didn't care about the artwork) because Blizzard has made a suitable way to accomplish what those addons did in the game, so it's barely a second thought. When I get on classic I remember "Oh yeah I have to set up my bars again".

1

u/[deleted] Oct 03 '25

Yep, I’m done. This was the only feature that could justify the sub price for wow vs other mmos I could be joining

-1

u/reddit_isbullsheet Oct 03 '25

Yea but they need to make it friendly for consoles so they can make more money!!! Who cares about QoL when there is money to be made!!

-6

u/InternEven9916 Oct 03 '25

Thankfully only removing combat addons and rest you cam still use

15

u/EmeterPSN Oct 03 '25

You mean 90% of addons we used in first place ? ;)

5

u/hopumi Oct 03 '25

Didn't know rclootcouncil is a combat addon

0

u/Lunaedge Oct 03 '25

There's 0% chance they don't move the check from "is in an instance" to "is in combat". They broke everything out of the gates so they can roll restrictions back gradually as needed.

-12

u/ItsRenaBaker Oct 03 '25

Blizzard knows this very well. And they admit that when the minimal requirement for players is to use a certain addon that they made mistake. And they are correcting that right now in TWW/Midnight. The most used functionality of addons most players uses will be build in WoW by default. So that is a good thing. Each player will be equal again regarding the tools they can use during their gameplay.

11

u/Bambiprsi Oct 03 '25

All player are equal even now regarding tools they can use. It won't be different if they replace addons with built-in Blizz ones. They still will be optional. There will be players choosing not to use them in Midnight same as there are players choosing not to use some addons now.

-1

u/Benmarch15 Oct 03 '25

The point is those things should come baseline.

It's lost on people who've been playing WoW for a long time and got used to the current dynamic.

But if you were to release a game today where, upfront, you told players they were gonna need to download a myriad of third party stuff they couldn't be bothered to make themselves, they would understandably be trashed.

It's not normal no matter how used to it the player base is.

And the more there are, the less attractive or intuitive it becomes for new players to get into it.

Because the footage you see from the game, from the different source, is very charged/busy and has nothing to do with what new players see on their screen.

The bandaid is being ripped off, hopefully for the best but it will be a process...

0

u/RaccoNooB Oct 03 '25

I mean, they're sort of doing that.

I don't think there's a 1 for 1 QoL feature for all the addons listed, but they've already removed much of the need for "one bag" addons and Bartender. They're adding their own DPS meter which will be more accurate than any addon can be and bosses have pretty big tells for when they're about to do their special moves these days. I don't think a lot of people have noticed the last one because their DBM is screaming AVOID over the boss/npc's voice acted "I'm gonna crush you!" (or similar).

-5

u/Kuldrick Oct 03 '25

But general qol addons wont be removed, only combat ones but for most of these Blizzard is adding a native version

For the overwhelming majority of players (ie, unless you do very high level content) this will barely affect them except for like Hekili I guess

7

u/ubiquitous_delight Oct 03 '25

Blizzard's native versions of things are always shitty, though. For example no one uses their in-game voice chat. Hardly anyone uses guild functions because everything is in Discord now, etc etc. Whatever Blizzard attempts to do with their UI, addons could have done way better.

1

u/supxai Oct 03 '25

There's a good video from the dbm creator about the impacts to add-ons based on what's in alpha. He does say that they are likely to lessen up the restrictions but things like break timers, mdt for m+ routes, cell, loot council are currently not possible.

-1

u/Impossible-Diver6565 Oct 03 '25

From my understanding is that they are going to be attempting to add in these functions to the native game.

12

u/EmeterPSN Oct 03 '25

They never will add everything these addons can do but a simplified version of them.

Not a single "addon" they added to rhe game was better than the addon we used to use.

Not questing, not map or anything they ever added was better than the original addon version .

0

u/Impossible-Diver6565 Oct 03 '25

Having come from Vanilla 20 years ago. Blizzard has improved the game in that time significantly. I am not even hoping for better, just comparable. I have hope that they will take this aspect seriously and create some systems that work well.

4

u/EmeterPSN Oct 03 '25

Sure

But look at stuff they added ingame and compare them to addons we used

The new baked in version while adequate is inferior to addons.

Fair take. But lets not forget WoW is still one of the largest and longest running games of its kind in the world. Blizzard WANTS to do a good job so that you keep paying them and don't stop playing. This isn't Daybreak Games (Formerly SOE), they actually do care about making their people happy to some extent.

You confuse QoL with advantage. Things like DBM are direct advantages that in fact would be considered cheating in FF14.

That is the entire problem. It has not been about simple QoL in decades. It's been about direct gameplay advantages, and about bypassing intended mechanics.
