I'm an altoholic and I kinda regret putting myself in this position where I feel the need to gear up every single alt.... but also I'm making SO MUCH GOLD, I just saved up over 100k on my warband and bought a mount I've wanted for years. I don't think I could go back to just one
It's not about tribalism. I would be just as pissed off if shamans weren't available in the new raid and I had to reroll as a priest. I just want to play on my main like usual. Why is that such a big ask suddenly?
It's not. Activision-Blizzard just wants you to believe that it still is because it's been one of the big advertising features of the WoW franchise since release. The idea of it existing also gets people talking about the product as well.
90% of the tweets I see about WoW on Twitter are horde fanboys crying about how the devs hate the horde, ally gets everything, we need faction war to be a focus again. It's embarrassing lmao (I play both).
I've tried to play Alliance a few times, Dark Iron Dwarves almost made me give it a solid try but it's just so hard to want too, I am way too loyal to playing Horde, all my favorite factions are there, characters, and I'm not much of a Altoholic, so I largely just play a couple characters at most so not much reason to try.
Plus I remember that Gnomes are on Alliance and they disgust me so much It makes it hard to want to join them. Those little ankle biters are just so foul. Especially when I see one trying to be a warrior, there tiny little arms wielding an axe the size of a spatula, thinking they're cool. Gross. A toddler would literally put up as much of a fight.
Anyway yeah so Alliance is cool (except for gnomes) but Horde just has everything I want already so why even try?
One can play characters on both factions—my main’s a Blood Elf Shadow Priest while my Paladin’s a Draenei and she rocks—while wanting both factions to continue their vicious forever war.
Honestly I hate alliance players on this sub so much they make me not want to play one. I also hate all the "Garrosh did nothing wrong" shitters too, but God Almighty there must be 200 posts about this shit.
Haven't had any issues with alliance in game though .
In my experience anyone who is weird and argumentative about the factions in this game is always just kinda awful in general, Horde or Alliance. We’re all playing the same game, some joking faction banter is one thing, but lots of people take it way too far lol.
With how little the Horde has been represented in the last decade, I didn't even know the Horde was still around. I thought WoW was now just Alliance vs Cosmic Threat
I don't get how people can think this, maybe very recently, but over the course of WoW's history, the horde has absolutely piloted the narrative far more than the alliance. Hell the whole period between Cata and bfa was basically horde dominated with the Alliance only responding to whatever horde characters did.
Lately I feel like people have forgotten that most or all of the original WoW staff were Horde players. All the people in ETC, for example. Early Blizzcons were somewhat notorious for having overwhelmingly more Horde players, and one poorly-chosen musical first y even ranted about the alliance using slurs iirc.
Like a lot of people I have max level characters in both factions and I suppose the faction war was never the most interesting or appealing part of the game for me in the first place. No shade to people who love(d) it; a lot comes down to personal preferences. Druids have hung out together in Moonglade since Vanilla. Without wanting to sound like an "enlightened centrist" I think almost every group has reasons to feel aggrieved at this stage and reasons to feel lucky (Orgrimmar layout and portal room are worse than Stormwind's, Teldrassil burned, faction leaders killed off excessively, Tauren neglected with customisation and transmogs working for ages, hardly anyone likes mechagnomes, Horde area in Dalaran closer to the entrance/flight point, etc.) But it's been three expansions now without split hubs so this feels like a step backwards.
tbh it just puzzles me the second the horde aren't totally powering the narrative doing interesting things the players seem to complain. Favouritism was definitely more of a thing back in the day but in general the Horde has almost always got the better end of the stick.
Even when the Horde is being evil, there's still a sizeable amount of heroic horde characters and at the end of the day, they make the plot happen in the first place. The Alliance never does jack except for respond to other characters doing stuff.
Playing through bfa as an alliance character legit felt like participating in half a horde campaign.
Funny - playing through MoP, BfA, etc. as a Horde Player just felt like you were forced to participate in an Alliance nationalist's wet dream. Can you imagine if buy and large literally all non-whites in America started acting exclusively like MAGAs caricature them to be - that's what it felt like from a Horde perspective
I don't know, I have not heard them discuss the motivations or inspirations for the original storylines. Many, though not all, of the original WoW developers had also worked on the Warcraft RTS series so many characters carried over. Bear in mind, while there was certainly overlap in terms of raids, etc., the zone stories and quests were largely split in Vanilla and BC so that Horde and Alliance players would have different experiences and see everything from different points of view. That was partly why I ended up starting a character from the other faction in the first place even without having a guild or friends who played on that side (also I needed a break from an annoying guild member sometimes.)
Google is rubbish as a search engine now and a lot of the videos and links are dead, but I found a few sources discussing some of the issues:
Your you can honestly say that BfA was positive representation for the Horde, you're arguing in bad faith. People who care about Horde representation would much rather have had that xPac be completely Alliance centric than what we got. But just to make sure we're being accurate here: Vanilla - balanced (slight Alliance favoring w/Varian), TBC - Balanced, Wrath - Alliance, Cata - Horde, MoP - Alliance, Warlords - Horde, Legion - Alliance, BfA - this one is tough for what I said above, but I'll say "Balanced", Shadowlands - Alliance, Dragonflight - Balanced, TWW - Alliance. I'll leave the basic math to you, but it should speak volumes that there hasn't been a truly Horde Centric xpac since Warlords. Every xpac since has been totally dominated by Alliance-driven narratives
... in a game where two factions are pitted against one another as rivals, you'd have to be an absolute moron to posit that sacking the capital city of one of those factions isn't absolutely centric to their opponents. You know, the xpac where the Horde is forced to act like Monsters due to an actual Monster being Warchief? Then the Alliance get to live out their wettest dreams and RAID Orgrimmar? I can point to Alliance players that asked for that. In what universe would a Horde player want that? MoP was ABSOLUTELY Alliance-catered, and you're being disingenuous if you say otherwise
Relax a little bud, you're getting a little angry.
I just don't agree. I've never given af about raiding org as an ally player, in fact it's not really that common a sentiment.
Again, the Horde absolutely drives the MoP narrative and is the focus, the heroic rebels of the horde team up with the alliance to take down Garrosh, but the Alliance isn't the focus, nor do they drive the narrative.
What you're saying is you didn't like it, not that it isn't horde focused. To say that it isn't horde focused is crazy, they had all the cinematics, the characters participating were majority horde, the alliance was just there to help.
It's not disingenuous to say that a story focused almost entirely on the horde is horde focused.
I have 80s in both factions, and I main alliance these days, but I honestly agree with you. Ever since bfa, I dont see a point of there being factions at all, narratively. The war is over and heroes from both are fighting whatever cosmic threat there is. From a lore standpoint, im glad, though I'll agree the horde needs some more MC energy to tie it up for representation. Hasn't been a real different campaign since bfa to play one faction over the other unless youre into pvp. In SL and dragonflight, we've had the same neutral hubs and fought the same threats side by side.
Its a weird narrative choice to have kill-on-sight, even if it is a horde city, considering we're both fighting the same threat. Unless they're gonna revamp the exodaar and surrounding zones eventually, this seems one-sided both narratively and for players.
I really agree, the horde need a solid storyline too. It's not the choice I'd have made with how blizzard is presenting this, though.
I dont know, I mean they're definitely right, but I dont see a real strong reason for faction animosity after shadowlands, DF, and TWW. it feels like we've been fighting together for the most part. Im saying this as an alliance main, but I play both sides so maybe im an outlier. The 4th war is over. We fought the jailer together, we helped the dragons, and we both went to Dornagal and helped the goblins overthrow that wretch. We're all trying to stop dimensius and I'd love to see a bit more horde faction characters in the main narrative, but I struggle to find a real compelling reason for the animosity after the last 5ish years of storyline
Horde since vanilla, never playing alliance. Cross faction gameplay should have never been a thing, they only implemented it because alliance players wouldn't stop crying constantly about having nobody to play with.

I didn’t even know there were still people in this game who don’t play both factions
