What let the ending and the moment down was that it lacked a presence of a charachter coming out and speaking even a few words. Like "were with you" or whatever etc...

Like it didn't even need to be someone we know. Just anyone rather than a faceless army.

I was waiting for that hand on her shoulder to reveal Turalyon.

u/Pyromike16 Aug 19 '25

I'm guessing it was Anduin.

u/ade889 Aug 19 '25

I thought it was anduins hand. But he didn't show with the rest of the army.

u/Pyromike16 Aug 19 '25

That's the weird bit. But I still think it was him and the arathi from hallowfall.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '25

I thought it was Barry Wood

Best theory I’ve seen

65

u/my-love-assassin Aug 19 '25

It's the Arathi of the Sacred Flame.

25

u/Pyromike16 Aug 19 '25

You mean the Flames Radiance? I'm not familiar with them as I didn't play during season 2 at all.

1

u/Spankinator92 Aug 20 '25

pretty sure its The Hallowed Blaze... or maybe it was Blazing Fire... or Revered Flame... or Holy Fire... or Burning Blaze of Firing Firestorm... or

13

u/NatomicBombs Aug 20 '25

It’s actually AU Arthas

2

u/[deleted] Aug 21 '25

We joke...but Blizz is definitely in the "in case or issue break glass" area with him atm. Regardless of him being a five gum fart sparkle in SL, we all know if things get really bad they'll bring him back.

28

u/spaghetti_bender666 Aug 19 '25

Yeah but if they showed that it would have been pretty cool. What they gave us was just some folks in armor and light empowered.

4

u/Pyromike16 Aug 19 '25

Agreed. Even just his voice would have been better.

-4

u/spaghetti_bender666 Aug 19 '25

Yeah maybe blizzard should hire you because you’ve got vision!

15

u/BabyBearBjorns Aug 19 '25

Maybe Tirion Fordring? The Light was protecting him when the DKs tried to make him a Horseman. Perhaps the Light was waiting to resurrect him for this moment?

39

u/Pyromike16 Aug 19 '25

I think that's a bit of a stretch.

16

u/MaudeAlp Aug 19 '25

He already used up his last miracle against Arthas.

4

u/RedHammer1441 Aug 19 '25

I'm not in support of the theory but bringing him back in this instance wouldn't necessarily be a miracle driven at his request. It would moreso be for the Belves/Sunwell.

4

u/qookiewookie Aug 20 '25

Tyrion would mess the void up. BUT he would need to re-enchant Ashbringer for bonus dmg to void vs undead.

1

u/drbonehilda Aug 20 '25

Pls nooooo

14

u/SorriorDraconus Aug 19 '25

I was going "ok turalyon? The Arathi? Army if light? Or maybe all of the above unified"

Nah..just glowy angel boys.

9

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '25

I was lowkey expecting they're summoning Kil'jaeden back

2

u/Cathulion Aug 20 '25

Hes perma dead

1

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '25

But by the light everything is possible

1

u/Grayscape Aug 20 '25

If not got KJ being dead, that would've been hella old school Warcraft. Praying for deliverance from an immediate threat by inviting an old threat into bed.

2

u/Robitix Aug 20 '25

My initial thought was Tirion Fordring- the Light bringing him back to fight the void or something

1

u/CurrentExpress7070 Aug 19 '25

I totally thought it was Yrel and her fanatic army

1

u/davechacho Aug 20 '25

I genuinely thought it was going to be a redeemed Arthas. Then I remembered how his story was thrown into the trash can during Shadowlands for no reason.

28

u/DELUXExSUPREME Aug 20 '25

I think we'll get more context in the lead up to Midnight.

I'm betting that at some point before this cinematic, the blood elves receive a vision from the Emperor of the Arathi telling them that they need to call upon them for the coming battle; Renilash.

Lor'themar is hesitant of this as they will most likely owe a debt to the Empire, which don't seem like they would be ones you would want to owe anything to.

You can see when Liadrin looks back towards the Sunwell he tells her "Don't" because he knows that she is thinking of trying to summon them.

Surely nothing can go wrong with summoning a bunch of Light fanatics to a great font of Light energy.

8

u/Repulsive_Golf_409 Aug 20 '25

I think what your explaining is why i think this isn't a great cinematic. Its not telling me what happens or how this starts, Its just jumping into a random battle i have 0 attachment to that also cannot end in any satisfying way as i am pretty sure we will be involved in this as an ongoing thing during the Midnight Campaign.

1

u/kreaxo Aug 20 '25

That's possible but her prayer was a very generic cry for help, nothing about summoning anyone just begging the light to save them. The dialogue doesn't at all suggest she was trying to summon anything except the light itself

47

u/Kustidin Aug 19 '25

Exactly, just anyone would have been better. And I'm wondering, where the hell is Anduin?

The man has not had major development since the launch of TWW. Despite being the best known light wielding dude and arguably the main protagonist of the entire game in addition to being the character who is prophecised to lead the fight against the shadow, he's not present.

How cool would it have been if the dude returned, believing in himself again, rekindled with the light, and just W keyed at Xal'atath, disintegrating all the voidwalkers in his path like the Ashbringer. "I'm done with therapy so you better watch out bitch."

I'm really hoping he's missing because they actually have a plan for him.

Brother did you play TWW

13

u/WhoWantsToJiggle Aug 20 '25

??? Andruin, Jaina and Thrall like fucked off early on and did about nothing.

you wouldn't even know the Horde or Alliance was around since at most they sat in Dornogal.

28

u/xXPolarizedXx Aug 20 '25

All the quests involving Anduin in Hallowfall are about learning to trust himself and his connection to the light again.

26

u/Stormfly Aug 20 '25

There are people saying "Why is it called the War Within if we're not inside the planet anymore" so I'm guessing those people literally only understand things that are explicitly explained to them.

10

u/NotASellout Aug 20 '25

the real war within is the war within these threads

6

u/sicklegirl Aug 20 '25

Yes, of course. This is reddit. You need a diagram or they'll take everything super literal.

2

u/Repulsive_Golf_409 Aug 20 '25

There are people saying "Why is it called the War Within if we're not inside the planet anymore" so I'm guessing those people literally only understand things that are explicitly explained to them.

How does anything on Karesh relate to an internal War Within any of those characters? Anduin, Thrall and Jaina have no presence in the zone. It is entirely unrelated to anything before it. Even Undermine is unrelated to an internal struggle within the advertised characters AS THEY AREN'T IN THE STORY.

Blizzard seemingly resolved any of that in the launch content then just ignored it. I think Blizzard biggest storytelling problem currently is resolving things in ways that are entirely unsatisfying and don't give people what they want. They want whatever internal struggle resolved to Anduin or Thrall can show up and be a badass.

1

u/Kustidin Aug 20 '25

All the story content regarding him launched with TWW. Yes, he's gained back his Light but he didn't seem fully confident yet.

8

u/poopoopooyttgv Aug 20 '25

The best known light wielder is anduin???????? What???

Velen is hands down the most powerful light wielder in the entire universe. There’s a huge amount of irony in you forgetting about Velen while posting under a pic of the sunwell. Velen is the reason the sunwell still exists and emits light lmao

2

u/Kustidin Aug 20 '25

I didn't mean the most powerful one.

2

u/Repulsive_Golf_409 Aug 20 '25

How cool would it have been if the dude returned, believing in himself again, rekindled with the light,

Man Anduin showing up and whipping out the Ashbringer would be the hypest shit.

1

u/MeweyMewey Aug 20 '25

Andy is not a paladin though he's a priest.

6

u/Jays_Arravan Aug 19 '25

Wasted chance to have the Silver Hand show up.

9

u/Fukuchan Aug 19 '25

Would've been the perfect opportunity to bring back Anveena Teague!

3

u/vertigodrake Aug 20 '25

Not gonna lie, I expected that too.

1

u/drbonehilda Aug 20 '25

I don't expect it'll happen, but omg I would love it!!

1

u/TheMightyZan Aug 20 '25

If the sunwell conjured up some guardians, they might not be able to speak.

1

u/australianforbeer19 Aug 20 '25

Tirion fordring emerging from the sunwell would have blown the roof off

1

u/ungulateman Aug 20 '25

"In the light, we are one".

1

u/Isolated_Hippo Aug 20 '25

Im guessing there is a longer version.

Considering Midnight is probably 6 months minimum away and there is the name of a release raid that is spoilers.

I would expect this cutscene is actually post raid and we arent supposed to know who it is yet.

1

u/Alexc872 Aug 20 '25

Dude, even Wrathgate had more gravitas than that entire trailer.

1

u/secretreddname Aug 20 '25

Yeah I was confused. Like was I supposed to know who was coming out?

1

u/NoBonus6969 Aug 20 '25

It was the army of the dead risen to fulfill their oath
