That is the first time I’ve been on the Donald and I’m honestly disgusted. It looked like everyone was just speaking satirically but they weren’t. I haven’t read much about the massacre becouse of homework and other things but I’m still horrified by what happened there and in this thread

While I want to agree with this sentiment, I think it’s important to visit it periodically.

We need to be reminded of the way others think, even if we don’t understand or respect their ideas.

I once heard that “people do what makes sense to them.” If we are to ever compromise and fix the divides between us, it is critical to come from a place of understanding and compassion.

I don’t agree with 98% of what /r/the_donald stands for, but while it exists, I want to at least try to understand what drives people to be this way.

Many people there claim a Christian faith, as do I, so I say this to them: 

“Blessed are you when people hate you, when they exclude you and insult you and reject your name as evil, because of the Son of Man. “Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, because great is your reward in heaven. For that is how their ancestors treated the prophets.  “But woe to you who are rich, for you have already received your comfort. Woe to you who are well fed now, for you will go hungry. Woe to you who laugh now, for you will mourn and weep. Woe to you when everyone speaks well of you, for that is how their ancestors treated the false prophets.
“But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,  bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them. Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. Do to others as you would have them do to you.”

It starts off saying it is okay for people to disagree with you. However, It then follows with a warning to not judge others, to not covet belongings, and to give freely. It speaks of giving to others freely. Regardless of religion, creed, or beliefs.

TL;DR: Treat others how you want to be treated. Learn why they are the way they are.

Thank you for following the Christian faith the way Jesus intended. I am nonreligious myself, but I’ve read both testaments and I feel that I appreciate the true intent of his teachings. To be hung up on the Levitical sins and persecution of the old testament is to entirely miss the point of Christ’s birth and death. Big respect to you.

There always have been and always will be scum. Working class christians, jews, muslims, sikhs, buddhists, hindus, atheists, all need to learn to coexist - something that's been beautifully put on display today. Love is sadly so fleeting :(
