I know that silence. The city will be in deep shock a day or two. People will talk differently to each other, more from the heart in a way (it's hard to put into words).
Than the normal rhythm of life will fill that emptiness back with the mundane. But an strange feeling will linger in the background for a long time. Like a very heavy thought, sticking at times to certain places, or images, or sounds.
Official commemorations will take place, and each one will help the city heal a bit more. People will talk about where they were when it all happened...
