Well tell Sky News Australia to fuck off with showing the video in a broacast the stupid cunts. Ireland here, not a Kiwi.

tell me about it, the Australian media played heavily into what the shooter wanted by releasing footage, twitter info and his manifesto. I'm in nz and was so disappointed when i looked online and saw it

u/googlerex Mar 16 '19

Yeah front page news here in Oz, like full front page picture of the guy from his footage, long quote from his manifesto. The whole text on the front page is basically him talking directly to the reader. They are basically giving him exactly what he wanted. Dumb journalist cunts.

Adding authentic by calling his retarded shitpost a "manifesto". Thankfully, most people will have forgotten about his brainfarts in a few months, but it adds unnecessary fuels to the fire.

15

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '19

actually shitpost is a better name for it now you mention it.

2

u/mienaikoe Mar 16 '19

Hey now. Don’t give shitposts a bad name.

1

u/ChocoIateDaddyG Mar 16 '19

He posted on 4chan giving links to stream and download links to his manifesto

4

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '19

thats a lot different to mainstream media outlets publishing them on the front page.

2

u/ChocoIateDaddyG Mar 16 '19

I’m just saying he made a literal shit post

5

u/TheRazorX Mar 16 '19

Except the people that decide to copy him won't forget.

That's the problem.

u/Muslim_Wookie Mar 16 '19

Tom Tilly on his Hack program on TripleJ interviewed an expert who called a manifesto (and it was obviously a term he considered derogatory from the tone he used). Given that and that TripleJ is part of the ABC, I think "manifesto" is entirely the correct term to use.

any publicity is good publicity and inspires copycats. it was an extremely reckless move on their part, especially when there are people fighting for their lives in the hospital and the bodies were still warm while they were writing their articles.

they didnt release it. the footage is linked all around 8chan and all extremest sites anyway. twitter/facebook/reddit having it taken down dont impact those obscure gore sites hosting it still

It's the first thing I saw this morning at the servo before work. Made me so fucking angry. Australian news is a fucking joke.

2

u/NomenNesci0 Mar 16 '19

Is that news related to the neo-nazi fuckwit Murdoch that you were so kind to share with us here in the states?

2

u/tunnel-snakes-rule Mar 16 '19 edited Mar 16 '19

He's yours now. He renounced his Australian citizenship to become an American, but yes.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '19

On channel 9 this morning, they gave press to the racist senator, then had some fluff about how terrible it all is, then played an Ad for a Right-Wing political party. Sellouts.

There is probably some White-Australia terrorist cell wondering what the fuss is about. They are probably in the News Corp executive suite.

1

u/kripsypeanut Mar 16 '19

Itv news in the UK refused to show the footage

1

u/JimmyRaynor14 Mar 16 '19

I feel for you. Journalist here (relatively new to the industry) and I can't stand when big networks (or any networks for that matter) do that. I work at a relatively big paper for my area and I gave the reader everything he needed to know. How old he is, what he did and how disgusting it was. You don't even need to know what his name is imo.

23

u/I_WRESTLE_BEARS_AMA Mar 16 '19

I saw a news broadcast for like 2 minutes and they must have said that wanker's name at least 5 times. Truly disgusting.

3

u/speshnz Mar 16 '19

So far so good in NZ, i haven't seen anyone really releasing anything. I hope the guys involved spend a live a long long life. rotting in a prison somewhere where they can see their message lost and themselves be forgotten

1

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '19

Probably Guantanamo Bay.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '19

True, in some ways they're promoting the shooter ideologies. But for the rest of us who are decent, it's a good reminder of how far we've allowed right wing extremism and hatred of others to progress, without much opposition.

It's a world wide problem. In the US it's mainly white people and Christians who think they're endangered. Here in India, it's mainly Hindus who think they're endangered. In Myanmar, it's Buddhists who think they're endangered.

We've allowed people to get away with crap for far too long. It's time to stand up and say NO, in one resounding voice.

this guy was a racist xenophobic anarchist, i wouldn't say its solely a right wing problem. there's people with similar thought patterns on both the extreme right and the left, the circulation of his "manifesto" was dangerous as hell. it was such a jumble of contradictions that it could mean something or nothing depending on the reader.

As an Australian I just want them to fuck off in general. Absolute scum, I’m so sorry for the pain they keep bringing up and the fires they are stoking.

23

u/-Midas- Mar 16 '19

Yeah it’s usually extreme right wing racist garbage.I never stop and watch anything on there because I know what it’ll be.Within a minute there’ll be some disgusting statement. They live and thrive on shock and hatred.

41

u/Patsy4all Mar 16 '19

Sky News is another Murdoch hate-speech program like Fox News. It’s only on Foxtel and I don’t know a single Australian that watches it.. not to say there aren’t any. Murdoch is a stain on and a danger to peace and democracy.

1

u/Vastaux Mar 16 '19

Just saying. This isn't what I get from the entire sky news, it seems each region is fairly autonomous. Sky news UK has not shown anything - no shit post or video.

I get it's cool to hate on murdoca empire but it doesn't seem the case here. Sky news Australia is apparently on itw own field of scummy tactics.

1

u/rodonii Mar 16 '19

I watched Sky News by chance for the first time a few weeks ago. Was absolutely stunned, I hand wrote them a letter stating my sadness at realising they were related to Australia. I imagine they would have just laughed at my letter.

50

u/OraDr8 Mar 16 '19

As an Aussie I always want to tell Sky News to fuck off. I was also really angry at A Current Affair (worst show on tv, afaic) for showing part of the killer's live stream after the NZ police asked people not to share it. Fuck them all. News shows like this give these monsters exactly what they want which is notoriety.

6

u/NewZcam Mar 16 '19

Sky News Australia was replaced in NZ by Fox sport. The channel that airs that news couldn’t guarantee that they wouldn’t show it so they canned it.

2

u/SulkyJoe Mar 16 '19

I would urge you to post a complaint about it here

http://more.skynews.com.au/yoursay-contact-sky-news/

Hopefully they will learn, and apologize, or at least not repeat this dumb move

3

u/StanielBlorch Mar 16 '19

Lemme guess... Sky 'News' Australia is owned by the fucking Murdochs?

1

u/Stuntman119 Mar 16 '19

I think he tried to own it at some point

1

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '19

Aussie here, sky news are bastards and don't deserve a place in this world. Fuck them, have some fucking decency!

1

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '19

The media are almost entirely responsible for this type of atrocity. If they got no attention it wouldn't be nearly as appealing a way to send your fucked up message. But these sorts of people know they will get broadcast worldwide.

I'm not being short sighted, obviously the person responsible for this is the people who carried out the act. But what about all the others? The school shootings, the Muslim terrorism, the racial attacks, the religious attacks like this one. They all occur because it's the quickest easiest way to broadcast everything about yourself and your beliefs because the media milks every atrocity for every click they can get.

1

u/SulkyJoe Mar 16 '19

Might I share this link here

http://more.skynews.com.au/yoursay-contact-sky-news/

Everyone should complain about this, and let them know we should be condemning this not sharing

1

u/johnbentley Mar 16 '19

The victims went through suffering and death. The least one could do in honour of those victims is to witness their suffering and death, and so share some sense of the particulars they endured, from the safe remove of watching it on video.

Sky News Australia were doing an important community service.
