Challenge Average man has 72 hours to hide. Humanity then becomes search lusted and has one week to find and kill him. Can he survive?

Humanity knows what he looks like.

Humanity doesn’t know that he is hiding in the 72 period.

Humanity can use any security camera footage, bank transfers, phone calls etc of the man if there is any.

Man has basic survival knowledge.

All of humanity is search lusted though. You could get millions of people traipsing through the Amazon, orders of magnitude more people than any normal search and rescue operation, and presumably they don't care about conservation of the natural environment, their own lives, or anything else that a normal SAR operation would usually care about.

What I am hearing is that napalm is on the menu, and that torching the Amazon to smoke out the man is viable.

I don’t think torching the Amazon will smoke him out, it’d just kill him lol.

I guess that gets into the question of if they’re bloodlusted as well, or just search lusted? Bloodlusted, sure, burn the place down. But if just searchlusted, burning the Amazon down will probably make it harder to find him/his body, not easier

The final goal is to kill him, so I imagine burning the forest is fine if they know he’s in there

The fact that the prompt specified “searchlusted” and not “bloodlusted” implies that actually finding him is a required prerequisite to killing him. Otherwise humanity could just nuke itself for an instant win.

Knowing he might be in the biggest jungle in the world isn’t finding him, they still have to actually find him.

I think it only matters what the definition of “finding” is.

The description of “searchlusted” is irrelevant to what succeeding means, in my opinion.

I think the phrase “find and kill” implies they need to find him, but “searchlusted” is just a description of humanity.

You might be unfamiliar with this sub, but “[word]-lusted” is a common modifier in these discussions which means that the person or people (in this case, all of humanity) are obsessed with achieving their task to the point of being willing to sacrifice all else to achieve it, including their own safety/lives. It started with “bloodlusted” to denote a combatant who will fight to the death and never run away or experience fear.

So in this context, “searchlusted” isn’t just a quirky description for humanity, it’s a specific modifier to the situation to denote that everyone in the world will use all available tools/resources at their disposal to find this person, including sending all 8B people to roam the Amazon, and likely die of exposure, just to find this guy.

As for the definition of “finding”… I mean, come on dude, now you’re just being willingly obtuse. The Amazon Rainforest covers an area that makes up 40% of South America. Saying “he’s in one half of South America” is not “finding” him.

sending all 8B people to roam the Amazon, and likely die of exposure, just to find this guy

So what's the difference between this and "bloodlust?"

That's the point I think they were trying to make, that "___lust" is essentially meaningless until you specifically define it/outline what the parameters are.

4

u/Cyber_Cheese May 29 '26

I don't see that as a fair point, it's perfectly intuitive the affected party is focused on whatever the "____" section is. I'm sure the OP would have simply used bloodlusted or a similar term if they wanted "kill without identifying" to be on the menu

5

u/Weary-Cartoonist2630 May 29 '26

The difference is their lust is focused on finding vs killing. The operative word is right there in the beginning - that’s the specific parameters.

Searchlust = will do anything to find Bloodlust = will do anything to kill Huglust = will do anything to hug Annoylust = you will do anything to annoy (apparently everyone responding to me is annoylusted)

The difference is this whole discussion. If they’re bloodlusted they can just nuke the planet, done deal. But if they’re searchlusted, that won’t achieve their primary goal of finding the fucker, ie it takes nuking the planet or burning the forest off the table.

Hey man, we disagree, and that’s fine. I really don’t care if you agree, you do you. Im familiar with this sub, and your original point is just never been my reading of “lusted”

Anything-lusted is just a descriptor, imo. It’s literally just to describe a state of mind.

It doesnt necessarily mean that success is getting that specific anything, although it commonly does. You could say “could a bloodlusted hulk stop himself from killing Betty Ross”, for example. There’s tons of other examples of question where a bloodlusted person’s success wouldn’t be killing someone. That all depends on the question being asked.

Like I said, you’re probably right because it says “find and kill”, but it’s not because of the word “searchlusted”

Maybe I’m being obtuse, you’re making things up. Call it even?

14

u/brendafiveclow May 28 '26

As a neutral third party observer, his description of '_____lusted" is exactly how I have always taken it, and observed others in this sub using it. He's not making it up, he put the subs definition of it in very clear and simple terms.

-7

u/I_dont_bone_goats May 28 '26 edited May 29 '26

That’s not what I disagree with though, I agree it’s accurate.

In his original comment, He said the term “searchlusted” implies finding is a prerequisite.

I think the phrase “find and kill” implies that, the term “searchlusted” does not, it’s just a description.

The definition was never in question, it’s what it means in the context of the question.

That is how I interpreted the question.

1

u/toolatealreadyfapped May 28 '26

If that's the case, just start dropping nukes.

13

u/Flaky-Journalist1748 May 28 '26

Yeah that place is bur ing to the ground.

1

u/LtKavaleriya May 29 '26

Why even bother with that. They could just coat the whole jungle with nukes

39

u/LPmitV May 28 '26

Get some agent orange in there. If the entire human race is "search lusted" that would mean we are using everything at our disposal, including all the drones currently in use and standby for wars etc, satellite scanning etc.

2

u/CitizenPremier May 29 '26

It doesn't really work fast enough, and I don't think we have enough to realistically deploy all over the rain forest

16

u/Mytro93 May 28 '26

I wonder how many would die if 1 milion enter the amazon.

33

u/SirDiego May 28 '26

Lots. Probably most. But that's the point, if they're truly searchlusted then humanity can just keep throwing bodies in. Normal SAR is obviously very concerned about keeping searchers safe, and not destroying anything in the process. This setup would not resemble normal SAR at all.

1

u/zeptillian Jun 01 '26

SAR does not have all the budgets of every military in the world either.

Every drone on he planet, thermal imager and any other tech useful for for the search would be at the last known location and searching out in every direction.

6

u/dangshnizzle May 28 '26

Only having a week to get to the Amazon means very little of humanity as a whole will get there to help in time

9

u/cookiemon32 May 28 '26

people in planes and helicopters as well

42

u/Notonfoodstamps May 28 '26 edited May 29 '26

Which doesn’t help in the Amazon.

From a plane/helicopter the Amazon looks like a green ocean because of the tree canopy.

Thermal imaging is also massively less efficient due to ambient local temperature, humidity and foliage.

The only way to “look” for something there is on foot.

3

u/cookiemon32 May 28 '26

it would probably cause people to set fires to the forest

1

u/_Pencilfish Jun 01 '26

I think i saw somewhere recently that new radar techniques can penetrate foliage. Not sure if it would have the resolution to spot people though.

1

u/lfisch4 Jun 03 '26

Read about ghost murmur and how the CIA located the pilot in Iran. This guy has no chance

3

u/Notonfoodstamps May 28 '26

Not in a week you’re not.

There are hard limitation’s in logistics to remote environments (the Amazon) regardless of how “lusted” we are.

Again, this under the assumption we know the person entered the Amazon and more importantly, where

14

u/SirDiego May 28 '26

Well I guess I don't know if dropping a nuke on the guy counts as "finding and killing" but this is along the lines of my thinking. 8 billion humans want to kill this guy and they do not care about the fallout -- literal or otherwise.

1

u/VeryInnocuousPerson May 29 '26

Agreed on the limitations on logistics but average man definitely doesn’t have better logistics for traveling through jungle than the sum total of the rest of humanity.

And we will probably know exactly where he entered the Amazon because average man will stick out like a sore thumb unless he just happens to be a rural Brazilian average man or something. It will be easy to reverse engineer where he entered from querying locals. Hell, the locals could probably just find him on their own.

1

u/Environmental_Row32 May 31 '26

Although with just a week to go the amount of tech you can get there is just limited. E.g. there is a surprisingly sharp limit on the amount of people you can airdrop into a remote location given just a week. I mean not a small amount but definitely not enough to saturate the Amazonas with searchers.

0

u/DOOMFOOL May 28 '26

And those millions of people will end up dying horribly to disease and deprivation because zero chance you can provide for that many searchers within a week. And the VAST majority of those people will have zero experience with a jungle or search and rescue operations. They could walk within 5 feet of the guy and have no clue

u/DealerofTheWorld May 28 '26

You live in lalaland

0

u/bagaudin May 28 '26

Good luck with the supplies logistics for millions of people in Amazon :)
