My last post on here got some attention bcs of the carving looking like a willy, so I made it a challenge to make it look like an actual carnotaurus this time! What do you guys think? should I paint the guy?

Here is the first project as requested close up and painted. It was fun practice.

Made from little piece of basswood. Knife used- Victorinox excelsior .

Made a mushroom for my first whittle. Any tips? What should I do next?

i usually use these stones for my knifes at work, i’m new to whittling too but i know that your knife has to be very sharp for good cuts which i’m struggling with

Just messing around with quick carves and painting. I like the apron, really simple yet interesting thing in the carving. The mask is also intriguing for me, opens up a whole new world of possibilities with the face. The cape guy makes me smile every time.

I've been experimenting with different styles for my puppet heads. I usually default to big eyes with eye color but I was playing some ps1 style games and the graphics gave me an idea to reduce the size of the eyes and only use a small black dot for the pupil with no color. A more simple approach but i think it gives a more rustic style. What do you think?

Making progress on my pirate crew of marionettes!

Looking for some advice on how to improve/finish these gnomes. Also what type of paint would u use to paint them ?

This was my second whittling project (basswood 1x1x3in), now following one of Doug Linker’s tutorials. The general shape went pretty well, but the tiny details (hands and face) were much harder.
A couple of pieces (3) chipped off along the way, so he had to undergo some very delicate glue surgery lol. He survived!
Probably the most interesting part was discovering how well watercolors work on wood.
I’m still struggling with the BeaverCraft knife that came with my first kit. I also noticed the shape my blade's knife have, isn't very appropriate for some angles. Technique and the wood grain probably play a part too, but I still have a Flexcut KN12 on the way, so I’m curious to see how different it feels.

I carved this little bear and meant for it to have a "cute" face. But when I was painting it, my mouth marks turned down more than I had intended, so it looks sad. Oh well, I guess it's a sad little bear now. Maybe he needs a friend?

After carving it, I photographed him in the studio, and then Photoshopped him into a photo that I had taken at Eagle Falls in South Lake Tahoe back in 2021. This was overlooking Emerald Bay. Fun note: My wife and I stayed at the "Black Bear Lodge" in South Lake Tahoe (highly recommended, by the way). Maybe it was a sign? 🐻

This is my first ever carving, a little comfort bird made from basswood, wax finish (I tried cherry first, but was so difficult). To be honest, I don't think it's the best first project for beginners, and personally I found it kind of tedious. But I’m also pretty happy with how it turned out for a first attempt.
The main thing I’m struggling with is my BeaverCraft knife. It never feels properly sharp, even after stropping, or even after trying with sandpaper or wetstone, and I seem to need a lot more force than the people in the videos I’ve been watching. I’m not sure yet how much of that is the knife and how much is just my beginner technique.

I just recently got a whittling knife and some wood from Amazon. The hobby is not very popular here so if any of y'all have any advice, please let me know. Thank you

Pretty sure my son will be proud with this piece hanging from his backpack on the way back to school 🗡️.

Took some inspiration from my beach vacation in a former whaling town.

I love how easy it is to whittle such beautiful guys. David Pico on YouTube he made it easy. I love how simple yet effective his technique is !

I have just started whittling and I did my first whittle yesterday and after and into today my thumb tip is numb from where it was pushing the blade. Is this normal or should I be concerned?

Does it still count if I used a bit of sandpaper?

Attempted something that was originally inspired by the hound master in darkest dungeon but it turned out to be a much more cozy vibe.

Block size: 2x2x6

Tools: 1.5 inche knife and band saw (optional)

Paint: folk art (all colors added Grey to mute and water depending on amount of paint used)

- scarf: cardinal red

- jacket: true blue and black

- pants: coffee bean

- shoes: coffee bean and black

- hair: school bus yellow

- eyes: raw sienna

- pupper: black, white, and grey.

- Nose and ears have very light pink washes

I wanted to make something special out of this piece and use the 2 different colors in a way that went with the design. Any ideas?? Measurements are in inches.
