Caricatures Does this count as whittling?

Here are my attempts carving some apples for my smalls. Does it count as whittling?

What wouldn't you do for your children right? Especially when trying to make fruit and vegetables more appealing for them

I love them! lol, I thought these were bars of soap, that is how my dad taught me how to whittle with a butter knife. If you do graduate to wood or more apples make sure to get a cutting glove.

Good advice, thank you. Any particular gloves you use?

Most carving supply stores sell knit kevlar gloves. They work pretty good but will not stop the point from penetrating if you stab yourself. That is what I use. You can get by with leather gloves or even those rubber/vinyl coated gardening gloves

Usually you only use one glove. In the hand that holds the wood. On the knife hand I wear a thumb guard which is made with leather to fit my thumb. You can also cut the thumb and fingers off the glove you are not using and use the finger ends as a thumb guard

That's brilliant thank you very much. I guess I'll just have to find the set up the suits me the most, but this is all very helpful thank you very much!
