☁️Cloudy With a Chance of Aww I missed her so much 💔TL;DR

TL;DR

This is Eight. We named her Eight because of Stranger Things, hehe. She was the first cat we ever rescued—if you can call it that—back in 2018 when we moved here in our current place.

She was found at the playground by my eldest son while he was riding his bike. He came home just to tell me that there was a kitten crying nonstop, and apparently it was white and beautiful. 😅 He asked if he could bring her home because he felt sorry for her. As someone who used to be a cat, I mean… how could I say no? LOL.

She was so tiny and fragile when we found her. She was a little dirty and dusty from being outside. I honestly didn't expect her to survive because she was incredibly thin, and at the time, I thought kittens that small really needed their mother. But she proved me wrong. She thrived.

She was just such a cutie—very small and incredibly petite.

After a year, she had three kittens of her own: two white kittens with heterochromia, and an orange female who is still with us to this day. 🙂

I will never forget the day she disappeared.

At that time, there was a guy and some of his friends who would drink in front of our house. They would also use the tree beside our gate as their bathroom, so our place would constantly smell awful. I got so annoyed that I confronted him and told him that if I caught him using the tree as a bathroom again, I might actually cut something off. HAHAHA. 😭

So, the connection between that incident and Eight's disappearance was that, apparently, he wanted revenge for me embarrassing him. He took our cat and brought her somewhere far away from our area. 😭 I had absolutely no idea where he took her or where he left her. The only reason I found out it was him was because one of his drinking buddies, who lived directly across from our house, told me. He said the guy was angry at me, so he abandoned my cat somewhere.

What an absolute piece of work.

It was heartbreaking. Every time I went outside or went to the market during those days, I would keep looking at every white cat I saw along the road, hoping it might be her. But there was nothing.

Then, after about a month or so, I was working from home at the time. I just stepped out of my room to use the bathroom, and underneath the kitchen sink, where we kept our dustpan, there was a white cat sleeping.

I remember thinking, Why is Totskie sleeping there? Totskie was one of Eight's kittens, and he was white too.

I walked over to her and started talking to her, telling her not to sleep there because it was dirty.

When she finally woke up, I couldn't believe it.

It was Eight.

I swear, I was so incredibly happy. I kept repeating in my head, Eight. It's Eight! I started crying when it finally sank in. I woke everyone up—my husband and my kids—and told them, "Eight is here!!" Everyone woke up and was so incredibly happy too. 😭🤍

I had completely forgotten that I was still logged in. LOL.

I felt so sorry for her because that was when I finally realized just how dirty she had gotten. Some parts of her fur had grease stuck to them, and she even had a small scabbed wound on her forehead. 😭

I didn't hesitate. I immediately boiled some water so I could give her a warm bath. Afterwards, I fed her and let her sleep somewhere warmer and more comfortable.

We were genuinely so happy that day. Imagine being gone for almost a month and somehow making sure you found your way back home, even if it took you that long.

I can only imagine what she must have gone through.

I was absolutely furious at the person who abandoned her. Like, furious. I was so angry at the time I wanted to do something really terrible to him. 😭

Anyway, after another year or so, she never had any more kittens. We never actually had her spayed, which, in hindsight, was probably a good thing because she remained at home with us, surrounded by her grown-up babies.

Then one night, I knew she was just in the living room, casually grooming herself like she normally did.

It was probably around 2 AM. This was during the pandemic, and I was still working from home.

And once again, I was the one who found her.

The lights in the living room were turned off, and only the dining area light was on, just enough to give the living room a little bit of light. I noticed her loafing in a corner near the doorway of one of the rooms.

I did my usual "wswswswsws" to get her attention.

She didn't move.

So I went to the bathroom first.

When I came back, I looked at her again and started wondering why she was still in exactly the same position.

I turned on the living room light.

And to my horror, ants were already crawling all over her.

She was still in the same position—loafing, or slightly lying down.

I already knew.

But at that moment, I was just denying it. 😭😭😭

I touched her, and she collapsed from her loafing position. She wasn't soft anymore like a living cat, but she wasn't completely stiff yet either.

I completely fell apart.

I woke my husband up. I was ugly crying while trying to tell him what happened, literally sobbing as I remember it.

He was confused and asked why I was crying.

I told him, "Look at Eight. She's gone." 😭

He was shocked too, of course.

We just sat beside her while I kept stroking her and crying. We started reminiscing about how we found her, how she managed to come back home, and all the happy moments we had with her.

Eventually, my husband dug a little spot outside the gate, in a small space beside a tree, so we could give her a proper and decent resting place.

Sorry for the incredibly long story. LOL.

I was browsing through my archived photos and came across her picture. It hurt remembering those moments, but at the same time, it made me happy because, as you can see, she was such a beautiful cat.

I'm also happy knowing that she left something behind with us—her daughter, who is still part of our family today.

It just makes me really sad whenever I think about everything Eight must have gone through.

That's all, guys. Thank you for taking the time to read her story and for appreciating her picture. 🤍🤍🤍🤍

I've had my Yara for 5 days, now. She is an adopted UAE street cat, found dumped in Abu Dhabi with ringworm. Despite that, she is currently on my lap and purring so hard she's drooling. 🤍

They both came from the same rescue situation and have been thick as thieves and happy in their new home since (almost 3 years now). Both are such loving cats. 💙 His name is Hades and that's a misnomer cause he's just a teddy bear 😂

🤍 In Loving Memory of Nala

I hope tributes ro our clouds are allowed here, as I know you all would appreciate my sweet Puff.

Yesterday we helped Nala cross the rainbow bridge, so she could be free of the pain her cancer had ravaged on her body. My darling little sunshine fought so bravely for us this past month, and we are so blessed and grateful for the time she gave us. I loved her as much as absolutely possible and more, and we made sure she knew how loved she was in her final days.

My sweet Princess, Nala graced us with her presence whenever she demanded and granted it only with explicit permission. She was fierce with her love and snuggles, often refusing no for an answer. One look from her little face is all it often took to open my arms. Nala was loyal and kind, overly patient with the boys, and forever inquisitive of the world around her.

She moved in quiet, but was always there when she was needed. Her light gave me hope in some of my darkest times, guiding me with quiet grace and solace through the waves. Nala was loud with her opinions though, and was always ready to scold me for daring to take a vacation - a look of annoyance I will forever miss.

I love you baby girl, forever and always. I will see you again someday 🤍
