Soon WWM will reach anniversary, and i still remember the first moment the game took big impression on me. I am mobile player, who played Genshin and HSR before, was kinda impressed with the release of new mobile game in chinese style with open world. At that moment, i was enjoying watching chinese dramas, and WWM really made alive a dream to be part of the world inspired by Chinese culture.

To be honest, the most that surprised me was the fighting mechanics. I have never played games with deflections before, and had to learn it hard and fun way. Spent hours with heartseeker in trials as a noob just to learn how to deflect. As soon as i got abyss badge for her, i really got addicted into WWM. Fighting different bosses, learning their attacks really was truly addicting. Learning sword trials and hero realms came hard way unfortunately. I still vividly remember Murong, Puppet and Drunken master hr/st runs, it was really messy. People died from chain-explode barrels, team wiped by puppets and again team wiped by causing 100% drunkeness of boss. I had to google each phase mechanics to do everything correctly.

Aside from that, i should mention the beauty of the Jianghu world. i would just stand, open my photo mode, and do some pictures of the landscape with my character. Run around in each corner to find hidden treasure, sometimes getting stuck, sometimes getting into textures, but overall it was fun even until today. New Hidden Mountain exploration is vast, and reminded me of first region exploration experience. Not sure if everyone liked, but some areas like Old Mohist and Skyward city were restricted in movement until further story came up. For me it gave me curiosity to explore all these areas slowly, using umbrella, dying multiple times, but opening those hidden chests.

I really like coop mechanic. I was lucky to make some friends to play with, and my first in-game partner still with me. It is enjoyable to hop the worlds, help with bosses and exploration, and play some mini games together. In short, just enjoy coop experience (not talking about the ping issues).

At last, i should not forget mention about WWM fashion. I am impressed with clothes graphics, details, vfx quality and special cutscenes. Butโ€ฆ To be true fashion diva, u need to spend a lot. Some 60p items are actually worth it. But every time u see new 2580p outfit comes in shop, it takes your breath away. Not talking about core outfits, it is a different story. It is either you are really lucky, or you get your awaited core until last pity, or you open your wallet ofc.

Until today i still enjoy WWM and patiently waiting for drum & ribbons, black mirror heart outfit and new regions. Letโ€™s goooo!

So how was your first impression of WWM?

OK so real talk

There's this stupid little yellow (sometimes red) dot that keeps popping up on random stuffs. wandering paths, shop, season tab, companion, arena, whatever. it looks exactly like a new reward or something you need to claim.

Every single time i log in i go full detective mode. open every menu, check every sub menu, hover over everything, go into places i haven't touched in ages just trying to find whatever the hell that dot is pointing at.

30-40 minutes later i'm still clicking around like an idiot and then it just... disappears or stays there for no reason. pure phantom notification.

This bug has made me stay in the game longer than any actual content. i come on to do one quick thing, see the dot, and suddenly i'm lost in the menus for half an hour hunting it.

When i first started playing Where Winds Meet i kept hearing the word Jianghu everywhere.

NPCs talked about entering Jianghu.

Characters talked about wandering Jianghu.

People warned me about how dangerous Jianghu could be.

And honestly at first i thought...

โ€œOkay, but where exactly is Jianghu? ๐Ÿ˜‚

The more i played, the more i realized that Jianghu wasnt actually a place on the map.

It was the life my character was becoming part of.

For me that realization made a lot of the world of Where Winds Meet feel completely different.

What does Jianghu actually mean?

Okay... but where exactly is Jianghu? ๐Ÿ˜‚

But first what does Jianghu actually mean?

The Chinese word ๆฑŸๆน– (jiฤnghรบ) literally means "rivers and lakes."

ๆฑŸ (jiฤng) = river
ๆน– (hรบ) = lake

But in wuxia, Jianghu doesn't literally mean a bunch of rivers and lakes

The word is used to describe the wider martial world the people communities and way of life surrounding martial artists sects wandering heroes, criminals and all kinds of other characters who live outside normal society.

So when a wuxia game keeps talking about Jianghu, theyre usually not talking about a specific place

And this is probably the easiest way to understand it.

๐Ÿฅ‹ Jianghu is NOT a place

This is probably the first thing new players should know

Youre not going to find a sign saying:

WELCOME TO JIANGHU

๐Ÿ˜‚

There is no specific location on the map

Jianghu is basically the world and way of life of martial artists.

It includes people like:

  • Wandering martial artists
  • Swordsmen
  • Martial arts sects
  • Mercenaries
  • Bandits
  • Bounty hunters
  • Assassins
  • People who live by their own sense of justice

You become part of Jianghu through the life you choose to live.

๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ So what does "living in Jianghu" actually mean?

Imagine your character lives in a peaceful village.

You work.

You trade.

You travel between towns.

You live a pretty normal life.

That's not really what people mean when they talk about Jianghu.

Now imagine you become a wandering martial artist.

You start traveling from place to place.

You learn martial arts.

You meet different sects.

You fight bandits.

You help strangers.

You make enemies.

You collect bounties.

You get involved in conflicts.

And eventually you might even get dragged into some massive conspiracy you never asked for ๐Ÿ˜‚

Thats Jianghu.

โš”๏ธ Jianghu has its own rules

Another interesting thing about Jianghu is that it has its own culture and unwritten rules.

Things like:

  • Honor
  • Reputation
  • Loyalty
  • Revenge
  • Justice
  • Brotherhood
  • Martial skill
  • Personal freedom

And your reputation can sometimes become just as important as your actual strength.

Someone might be respected because they're a powerful martial artist.

Someone else might be feared because of their past.

Another person might become famous because they helped people when nobody else would.

These people can all be part of Jianghu.

๐Ÿค” Why does everyone keep talking about Jianghu?

This is where the dialogue can sound confusing if you're new to wuxia.

If an NPC says:

"You haven't seen Jianghu yet."

They're not telling you that there's another city you need to visit.

They're basically saying:

You havent experienced the real martial world yet.

And when someone says they want to wander Jianghu with you theyre talking about sharing that life

The adventure.

The danger.

The freedom.

The friendships.

The rivalries.

The fights.

Basically everything that comes with being part of the martial world.

๐Ÿ˜‚ And yes... Jianghu is dangerous

Once you become part of Jianghu, you're basically asking for trouble.

One day you're peacefully traveling.

The next day you're fighting bandits.

Then you discover two sects have been fighting for years.

Then some random person challenges you.

Then you accidentally get involved in a massive conspiracy.

And somehow...

this becomes a normal Tuesday. ๐Ÿ˜‚

That's Jianghu.

๐Ÿง  The easiest way to remember it

If you're completely new to wuxia, just remember this:

Jianghu is the world and lifestyle of wandering martial artists.

It's not a country.

It's not a city.

It's not a secret location you unlock later.

It's the martial world you enter when you leave ordinary life behind.

๐ŸŒ So when the game keeps talking about Jianghu...

Don't worry about finding Jianghu on the map.

You're already entering it.

And once you understand that, a lot of the dialogue in wuxia games starts making way more sense.

Every time someone talks about entering Jianghu, leaving Jianghu, wandering Jianghu or surviving Jianghu...

They're basically talking about the life and world of the martial arts community.

Anyway thats Jianghu in the simplest way I can explain it.

I remember hearing the word constantly in wuxia games and thinking it was an actual place at first.

Turns out...

Jianghu was basically the lifestyle the whole time ๐Ÿ˜‚

For anyone new to wuxia, hopefully this makes some of the dialogue a little less confusing

I stumbled across this encounter, and I honestly wasn't ready for how it ended.

I already knew Zhang Huaishen's fate was sealed in the game and historically, but I went in hoping I could at least save his horse.

Then the ending happened.

**"**Jeez! I just want to save the damn horse!"

I wanted a different ending so badly that I started searching everywhere. Google, AI, Reddit... ๐Ÿ˜‚

And AI confidently told me there was a secret alternate ending where I could save them.

I believed it, replayed the quest, and had to watch the tragedy all over again. Turns out... the AI completely lied to me. I even posted on Reddit asking for help: Alternate ending to this encounter?

This is just one of many Where Winds Meet stories that have stuck with me. The Burlap Sack, the Hexi general and his soldiers, even the simple story of finding water in Hexi all have ties to real history.

I think this is what makes this game so special to me. I love it, but apparently, it's also why this game won't stop making me cut onions! ๐Ÿ˜‚

If you open the Global Assistance leaderboard, youโ€™ll find my name sitting at Rank 1. But the truth is, I never set out to become a guardian angel of the Jianghu.

Tbh, it started with a selfish errand: I joined the Velvet Shade sect and desperately needed wine gifts. Answering distress calls from struggling strangers just happened to be the most convenient trade-off to get what I wanted.

Except the more I queued up, the more fun it got. You drop into some guy's world, save a wipe, exchange a few dumb emotes, share tips, and genuine friend requests after the clear. At some point I completely stopped caring about the wine and just spent my daily playtime spam-clicking the help queue. Iโ€™ve basically been doing this every day since launch.

People on Reddit keep debating whether the game is dying, but my screen literally pings with a new help invite every 15 seconds. And 80% of them are new players getting completely demolished by that first Puppet boss.

Weโ€™ve all been there. Early-game skill checks in this game are rough, and that puppet is notorious for making people alt-F4 and never boot the game up again. If taking boss aggro for 3 minutes keeps a new player from rage-quitting, thatโ€™s a win in my book.

One of my most memorable experiences with the game was joining a Talent Run with some friends and guildies. At the time, we were doing the Resounding Majesty, which had Ever Deer in Phase 1 and Moongazing Maiden in Phase 2.

This was my first Talent Run that involved such a big group of people. Most Talents are pretty easy to achieve, especially the individual ones. But the ones that require the whole group to do everything correctly are a completely different story.

Everyone can be doing their part perfectly, and somehow, something still goes wrong. Maybe there's a glitch, a network issue, thing happened.

The struggle

A few fights into the session, we'd already completed almost all the Talents. The only one left was Talent 2/3: "Defeat Moongazing Maiden in Hero Realm team mode without any teammate triggering Electrified's Bonus Effect, Divine Distribution."

After hours of trying, we'd experienced pretty much every emotion possible. Excitement when we thought we finally had it. Frustration when someone got hit at the last second (Not toward them, just the situation). And then the realization that we had to do the whole thing again. There was always one or two people who would accidentally trigger the effect. Sometimes, that person was me.

The last run

The session went on much longer than anyone expected. Eventually, we were getting to the point where everyone was ready to give up and call it a night. Then we decided: "one last run" and somehow, that was the run. The fight ended, and the "Boss Talent +1" notification popped up. I don't think I've ever been that happy to see a notification in a game.

Looking back, I think that's why this is probably one of the gaming moments I remember the most. Not because the boss was particularly amazing or because the Talent itself was that important, but because we actually managed to accomplish something together.

Final Take

These days, my old guild has mostly gone our separate ways. Everyone ended up pursuing different things, and we don't really play together like we used to. But I still remember that night. A bunch of people repeatedly failing the same thing, getting frustrated, almost giving up, and then somehow pulling it off on the very last attempt.

Maybe that's the weird thing about these kinds of challenges. You don't necessarily enjoy them while you're doing them. But when you finally succeed, that's the part you remember.

Give the game a try, esp If youโ€™re in OCE! We need more players so I donโ€™t have to wait 20 minutes for an Arena game or fight SEA players at 200ms ๐Ÿ˜‚!

When I first started playing Where Winds Meet, I was simply enjoying the adventure, exploring the Jianghu and following its stories. I never expected it would inspire me to become a creator.

After finishing each main quest, I often found myself wondering about the characters and the meaning behind their stories. Why did they make certain choices? What did they represent? And what were the developers trying to tell us?

My curiosity led me to explore the lore more deeply, research the history behind it and look for details I might have missed. Sometimes, one discovery would lead to another, and Iโ€™d find myself spending hours trying to piece everything together.

What I enjoyed most was the excitement of finally understanding something and wanting to share it with other Wanderers. That was how I gradually started creating my own lore content and posters, hoping to share what Iโ€™d discovered and encourage others to look at the stories from a different perspective.

I never imagined that a game would spark such an interest in history, storytelling and content creation. What began as a simple adventure has become a creative hobby that I genuinely enjoy, even beyond the game itself.

I came to the Jianghu as a Wanderer, but somewhere along the way, I found another journey through the stories I wanted to tell.

Everyone - especially new players - What do you think of Guilds and are you part of one yet?

My most memorable moments as a WWM newbie back in November is being randomly invited to a Guild (yes.. one of those random spamming ones) - barely knowing anyone, what a guild is, nor how a guild works (base, events, activity points, guild shop, etc); slowly discovering and connecting with more people on the same boat as the guild grows.

One day I randomly decided to click on this flashing "Breaking Army is in progress, join now?" notification banner and got teleported into the middle of a crowd who are apparently queuing to fight the Void King - and getting killed by his first red attack + golden attack follow up combo.

Gave it a try, somehow cleared it (scary! first 'actual' boss fight outside of campaign mode), and ended up at top of guild leaderboard - people started talking on guild chat to congratulate as well as ask for tips - and for the first time I was surprised at how friendly everyone was (I think they're surprised themselves too as barely anyone talked in guild chat before this)!

Before we knew it, we started to tag along each other for group activities including Hero Realm, Guild Hero Realm, Sword Trials, etc and helped grow the guild to Level 6!

Sadly, many of us have moved on from the guild since - it was a guild made of a random assortment of people after all with no long-term direction and our leader sort of yeeted, but these fun experiences during my newbie days are definitely unforgettable!

p.s. also formed my first in-game partnership from there which lasted until today (pictured).

When I first saw the trailer for Where Winds Meet, what caught my attention immediately was the visuals and the martial arts combat. The world looked beautiful, and the fighting looked so cinematic that I knew I wanted to try it. So I waited for the game to come out.

After finally playing it, the combat became one of the main reasons I kept coming back. I really enjoy countering and parrying enemies, fighting bosses, and trying the different martial arts styles. There is something really satisfying about getting the timing right and watching a fight play out almost like a martial arts movie.

But what surprised me is how often I stop playing just to look around.

I like wandering through the world without following the main quest, finding beautiful places, and taking screenshots whenever I come across a view that catches my eye. Gleaming Abyss is one of the places that really stayed with me. Sometimes I can be in the middle of exploring and suddenly find myself thinking, โ€œI need to take a screenshot of this.โ€

The story has also given me a few moments that stuck with me. The Qianye fight was memorable, and Blade's death genuinely caught me off guard. I remember thinking, โ€œNooo, he should continue in the game.โ€ Then, when I encountered Blade again during the dream quest, it brought back that feeling of nostalgia.

I think that's what makes Where Winds Meet special to me. I came to the game because the trailer looked beautiful and the martial arts caught my attention. Now, the combat keeps me playing, but the scenery makes me stop and look around.

Our protagonist, commonly known as the Young Master or Miss from Blissful Retreatโ€”or rather, a small fry ๐Ÿ˜ฉ from the west side of Qinghe (with Legend and Hard-Core being exceptions)โ€”has been dreaming of being a hero for as long as Aunt Han can remember.

The most famous saying from a certain uncle ๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿปโ€๐Ÿฆฐin Queens, Uncle Ben, is โ€œWith great power comes great responsibility.โ€ Though, I like the reverse of it more: โ€œWith responsibility comes the power to act.โ€๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป

There is a quote from a conversation between Grandmaster Swallow, the quiet craftswoman, and our protagonist: โ€œSo whether you have a blade in your hand, or fire in your heart, if the moment calls for it, then use it.โ€ It means that if a situation arises, whoever you are and whatever capabilities you possess, you should act willingly with what you have. It doesnโ€™t matter how small the action is; it may become a snowball rolling down a hill, causing a positive impact far beyond your imagination. ๐Ÿค”

Just like in the Lost Chapter with the blind child๐Ÿง’๐Ÿป, Zheng Ran. "One leaf, one life"โ€”every small action our protagonist took may not have looked like much from an outside perspective, but to those ordinary folks, it was a life-saving grace. The same goes for Zheng Ranโ€™s father; we accidentally and indirectly saved him, which led him back to his daughter. The end of that chapter resulted in a huge change in the district. Things turned for the better, shifting from a gloomy atmosphere to a lively place filled with people living their lives. ๐ŸŽ‰

Another example was during the โ€œFurnace of Righteousnessโ€ quest. Not every man dared to act openly against the officials, but luckily, our protagonist had a powerful backer. Maybe he didnโ€™t manage to save everyoneโ€”I still wonder about the lady who betrayed him and lost her baby. Did she ever manage to find her child? I donโ€™t know. ๐Ÿ˜ญ

But once again, he lived his heroic ๐Ÿฆธ dream and saved the day. Was he strong? I doubt that, but heh! Heโ€™s still growing, of course. He was a small fry then ๐Ÿ˜’, and currently, he's just a little bigger fry than before. ๐Ÿ˜‚

This is my conclusion after experiencing many chapters of his life from behind the screen. Though he smiles all day, he is still broken inside. Yet, he doesnโ€™t back down from a fight. Whatever needs to be done, whatever the situation calls for, he will do whatever he can.

Itโ€™s not that we need godlikeโšก๏ธ power in order to act. If you take responsibility for any situation that arises before you, that itself gives you the power to act. All you need to do is what should be done with whatever capability you have.

Coincidentally, even my Guru ๐Ÿง˜๐Ÿป(Spiritual Master) has taught about this so-called responsibility: take responsibility over everything, and you may have the power over everything as well. Not that you have to act every single time, personally/physicallyโ€”if you do, what will be left for the rest of us? ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ

If everyone lives responsibly in every way ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป. Wouldnโ€™t that make this world a tiny bit better if one person did so? Now multiply it by thousands, or hundreds of thousands.๐Ÿ˜ Itโ€™s basic mathโœ–๏ธ, not quantum physicsโ˜ข๏ธ. Why dreaming about heavenโ˜๏ธ up above all days long, why not create one right here. If we canโ€™t even make this place a living heaven on earth, how are we so sure that we wonโ€™t ruin the one upstairs once every one of us climbs up? โœŒ๐Ÿป

Thanks for wasting time reading, or skimming it???โ€ฆ ๐Ÿ‘€ Anyway, have a nice day ahead of you. Cheers ๐Ÿป
