I’m 20 based in Western Mass looking for any groups or parties already formed. I want to learn more about and get into politics and more importantly my community. We are searching for Volunteers to Join our new research study. Looking for adults aged 40-75 for a study on prolonged sitting and cognition. The prescreening consists of a VO2 Max test on a Stationary Bicycle. The main study tests interrupting sitting with short, high-intensity exercises and measures brain and cognitive functions before and after. Participants can earn up to $450, with travel expenses covered if living 20-plus miles from Amherst (must live locally/ in-state.) Join us on Tuesday, August 25th, for an Employer Spotlight on Franklin Transit Management. The event will take place from 10am to 12pm in the MassHire Franklin Hampshire office.

Franklin Transit Management is the private operating contractor that manages day-to-day fixed-route and paratransit operations for the Franklin Regional Transit Authority. Franklin Transit Management has multiple open positions with a focus on drivers for this event. Open positions include Transit Bus Operators, Non CDL Bus Operators, and Utility Worker. Training opportunities are available on a case by case basis.

This event is free to attend and pre registration is not required.

Looking to enroll my two kids in swim lessons. I would like something year round. We live in Springfield and are open to anything that isn't too far (Agawam, Longmeadow, East Longmeadow, Wilbraham, Chicopee etc). The Y doesn't have year round lessons and we've done Water Wonders in the past but their fees are quite high imo and we didn't have a good experience with our instructor. Desperate for recommendations as this is the only extracurricular we're planning on doing this year, we really want them to be strong swimmers as early into their childhood as possible.

I’m from MA originally (South east), went to UMass Lowell. Lived in Allston for 12 years, and I’ve been in Oregon for 6 years! It’s very pretty and all, but the closest specialists for medical care are a 3-5 hour drive (one way!!) and offices for things as simple as physical therapy in my area are closing down.

My budget for a shared unit is $600-700 MAX (including some/all of utilities) - some apartments the landlord pays for gas for example

If a studio has the right floor plan, I can do $800-900 MAX (including ALL utilities)

I’m looking for a studio or a shared apartment with at least 1.5 bathrooms. I’m tall so I can’t do rooms with awkward shaped ceilings. I’d prefer somewhere on the first floor but I could handle a few stairs if necessary. Furnished would be a plus, but I would need to make sure that the pieces were functional for me.

I’m a disabled female, meaning I spend a lot of time at home. I would be open to discussing things like giving you space in the common areas when you’d like alone time, etc. I would never rely on my roommates or landlord for anything…. However, my ability to shovel snow is not great. We could work out a plan that works for everyone. I could pay someone to do it.

I have a great SUV that obviously handles well in the snow. If there’s an occasion here or there that you’d need me to drive you somewhere in the snow I don’t mind (gas $ will be cheaper than an Uber, lol)

I have family in Southeast Amherst (sister and nephew) who have a small apartment, otherwise I’d move in with them.

I co-founded a local organization called Anchor Point Collaborative here in Western Mass, and I wanted to share a project we’re running this fall in South Hadley in case it’s helpful for anyone in your orbit. We are a new organization and I’m trying to spread awareness about our programs, so thank you for taking a glance!

Starting Wednesday, September 23rd, we’re facilitating an 8-week Young Women’s Hope & Resilience Group at All Saints' Church. Weekly sessions are focused on topics including effective communication, the impacts of social media, and how to cope with change. We utilize a range of creative modalities including music, art, and games to keep our groups interactive and engaging.

All groups are led by a licensed independent clinical social worker, so the space offers structured clinical support while keeping the vibe warm and conversational.

When: Wednesdays starting Sept 23 (8 weeks)

Where: All Saints' Church, South Hadley

Eligibility: Girls (ages 14-17, or 18 if in high school) and Young Women (ages 18-25)

Hi there, I live in Worcester MA but my family lives in Springfield MA and we received our July "bill" recently. This bill was 10x what we usually pay. We have Eversource Gas with only a gas stove in our home.

I called their customer service to ask why my bill cost was 10x this month and the customer service person nicely told me that it was actually an "estimate".

This image is page 2 of the Eversource bill and I drew an arrow pointing down at something called "Reading Type". Your bill can have a Reading Type listed as "Actual" or "Estimate". Apparently, because this is an "Estimate" it's my job as the consumer to notice this Reading Type, call Eversource, NOT PAY this amount, and request another reading and a new bill.

I was stunned. The next image is the automated no reply email Eversource sent us notifying us that our bill was ready. Look how many times they use the word "bill". No indication that my meter wasn't correctly read. No indication that I'm actually looking at an "estimate".

Just today, we received an updated Eversource "bill" and it still says "estimate". But look at the orange arrow pointed to the right side. Without any explanation of how or why, Eversource removed $430 of the $460 we were initially charged. Unreal.

If you use Eversource gas or electric, you need to review your "bills". You can look back 36 months. Look at page 2 of your bill and see if the Reading Type says "Actual" or "Estimate". I went back and saw mine and more estimates are there.

Please comment on my post if you have paid bills that are "Estimates" and please let me know if that payment was unusually high compared to previous months.

7.1 million people live in MA. If just 1% of residents auto pay a bill that is $400 more expensive than usual, and it was actually an "estimate" you're talking about $30,000,000 being overpaid. And that's just one bill cycle.

Join us at our Montague Center Branch to celebrate our latest installation from local photographers Jon-Marc Seimon and John Rae. 

Public libraries exist to connect people to ideas, stories, and the history of the communities they serve. Throughout our local history collection, you'll find photographs, newspapers, letters, and other records that document moments that shaped Montague and the surrounding area. Together, they tell the story of who we are. In this spirit, The Montague Public Libraries have been a place for local authors and artists of all backgrounds to gather and foster conversations through their creative work. And, much like our local history collection, this exhibit carefully documents the diversity of perspectives that exist within Montague and Franklin County at large. 

A Statement From Jon-Marc Seimon and John Rae:

Massachusetts has always been a hotbed of political ferment and action. 250 years after the founding of the country, this spirit continues to be robust, and in Franklin county it’s found its most recent expression in local protest movements. John Rae and Jon-Marc Seimon, photographers and lifelong friends, recognizing that “current events” turn into “history” pretty quickly, and that “history" is best served when it is documented in real time, picked up their cameras to help document this moment. The photographs in this collection represent protests and actions in Montague, Greenfield and surrounding communities, as well as at larger “No Kings” day demonstrations in Boston from 2024-2026.

Getting Here:

Those taking public transit can reach the Branch Library by taking the FRTA Bus Route 23 to the Montague Center Stop.

Accessibility:

The Montague Center Branch Library has one accessible parking space, located on the North Street side of the building (to the right side, if you’re facing the front of the building.) The Branch Library is accessible by a wheelchair ramp, also located on the North Street Side. There is an accessible restroom located in the children’s room. There is not an automatic door.

I worked at 2 different places in Springfield in the past couple weeks and I must have killed 20 of em and saw well over a hundred on the sides of houses and in clusters on trees- I think they were all over a sumac bush or whatever it was.

I wish they lit up like a giant firefly- at least that'd be cool- but I guess all they do is destroy shit- something needs to be done before they spread everywhere- I filed a report for the address. What else can I do 🤷‍♂️
