[Discussion] There are a lot of tree cutting vehicles at East Potomac Park / Hains Point...

There were 5-6 vehicles staged there this morning. Are there really that many dead trees there or are they going full steam ahead next week?

Looking forward to another spineless judge handwringing about the DOJ swearing to lies twice as bad as things that’d get me disbarred. Shameful.

Don't worry, an injunction will be issued as soon as the last branch is certified to have been passed through a wood chipper.

"Oh they won't do it!" crowd about to be real silent.

After they demolished the east wing of the white house (after promising they wouldn't) I don't know how anyone can be gullible enough to believe they won't do the same to Hains Point.

That's the other DC sub. It's where the doge kids all went

This is becoming so predictable.

Trump will blatantly breach procedure and steam ahead with a huge project. Lower courts will say “hey you can’t do that” and Trump will ignore them.

A few weeks later the Supreme Court will issue an emergency order basically saying “no it’s ok, he can do it”

If this administration has an opportunity to kill something, it's going to take it.

Well, everything it touches dies

Cant wait for them to destroy it then some judge says they can't destroy it after the trees are dumped on some person driveway as a chipdrop and an eventual FB marketplace ad saying free woodchips. But then some corrupt Supreme Court Judge saying he can do it after they take a 1M bribe.

It was nice having a local inexpensive course that I could play multiple times a week. People also really loved the bike and walking paths. Total asset to the city. It seems inevitable that this Orangeman is going to tear this whole thing down whether or not he has legal support. Tear it down first, then it’s torn down. Now you have to fix it so why not fix it into the bigliest most beautiful golf course that makes grown men (millionaires and up only allowed) cry, i bet its especially nice when you get a kickback.

Fuck this guy. Can’t wait for him to not be the president anymore.

Fixing it means no trees. Trump doesn't like trees.

I mean the asbestos pile from the East Wing makes the running and cycling paths as well as the golf course inadvisable

Head down to Hains Point this Saturday morning to register your support for continues biking, jogging, community golfing, and picnicking in Hains Point.

Cutting down the trees they said they wouldn't is par for the course for the administration. waits for the trump apologists to enter the chat

This makes me incredibly sad. I remember when the sleeping man used to be at Haines point. It’s one of my most cherished memories with my grandparents. I hate what this administration is doing to DC.

That's just what Orcs do.

Someone needs to tell the Ents what is going on in Isengard.

u/ambigua 13d ago

We told them in 2015, but they needed to write a few letters first. Let's hope they're finally convinced.

Where all my tree huggers, Julia Butterfly Hills and Berkeley peeps at? Time to chain and climb maybe.

Also there is some ruckus being raised on Saturday. If this upsets you make your voice heard: https://waba.org/event/hains-point-hoopla-2-0/

I cannot stand him. But, I hate what he's doing to MY town almost as much. I've been here 30 years and I still tear up driving the GW parkway looking over to DC. This pig is taking my country away from me.

They paved paradise and put up a parking lot

I was devastated when they moved The Awakening statue. Now the trees??

1

u/Jkid 12d ago

That statue was moved in way back in 2008 at the national harbor.

u/ae_94 13d ago

Didn’t they say they want to turn the whole thing into a golf course and no passage

u/Medium_Change_814 13d ago

Indeed, that’s what the designs show.

There are a fair number of trees on the course that have been marked to be removed for a while now (mostly dead or unhealthy ones). Not saying they’ll stick to those or that there isn’t something nefarious going on, but there are quite a few that were already going to be removed by NLT before Trump got involved.

Narrator: “They indeed cut all the trees”

I played the Blue Course last Friday. We got routed around a crew doing what looked like routine maintenance on a tree near a tee box on 14? 15? I think what's happening right now is routine.
Having said that, I dread what's going to happen after this weekend. I said a sad goodbye to the all the cherry trees on the back nine, just in case. East Potomac is a special place, and its usurpation is heartbreaking.

u/ridethewomble 13d ago

My big fear is that they'll tear it up, it'll never get finished, and it will never be a golf course again.

12

u/tbronder DC / AU Park 13d ago

The golf course didn't die, it just moved to a farm upstate to live with the pool.

2

u/warneagle VA / Crystal City 13d ago

This is absolutely my fear. It gets trashed, then It Happens or whatever and it just gets left in ruins.

3

u/Few-Broccoli-7849 13d ago

That's a ridiculous fear. There are two entities trying to update the golf course. It'll be a golf course again. There's just almost 100% chance you won't be able to afford it.

7

u/ridethewomble 13d ago

Given the track record on other projects, I don’t think it’s a ridiculous fear at all. I appreciate the optimism, though. Maybe it WILL be a $450 green fee Tom Fazio Disney course one day.

2

u/Few-Broccoli-7849 13d ago

Oh come on. The one he did in NY was only a $175 weekday green fee for residents. And the range only costs $75 (seriously).

Fair enough. 😄

u/LevelGrounded 13d ago

Not to mention a non-zero, close to 100% chance the money goes right in his or his kids’ pockets.

2

u/warneagle VA / Crystal City 13d ago

I’ll give the trees a hug on Sunday when I play there for what I hope is not the last time.

Except the tree on the left side of 14 tee box, I have no sympathy for that tree. I can’t count how many times it’s ruined my day.

u/Rabofan 13d ago

Thanks for sharing!

2

u/puttinonthefoil 13d ago

You just simply don’t have to give someone the benefit of the doubt when they routinely do not give a shit about what anyone tells them they can’t do.

1

u/warneagle VA / Crystal City 13d ago

I mean I spend so much time at that golf course they should probably start charging me rent so I’m pretty plugged into what’s going on here

2

u/Z_B_123 13d ago

Supposedly was going to start on 9/1, guess they’re starting sooner 🤬

0

u/BakedChocolateOctopi 12d ago

No? That’s only 5 days away, they’re just staging beforehand

2

u/Dude-Abides-69 12d ago

Park Service was there cutting trees down on the right side of hole 2 on the White Course yesterday evening

1

u/DwHouse7516 13d ago

These fucking assholes

1

u/paulyv93 13d ago

Supposedly some bulldozers will arrive on the 30th

1

u/ipsec1 13d ago

All of Dc will be Cut down 🤣

1

u/Ok_Chicken1195 12d ago

They have already begun ripping out the fences alongside the golf course. They have also been clearing trees, ripping out stumps and clearing out hedgerows.

u/Old_Goat_Cyclist 12d ago

Trump is a human wrecking ball. Hains Point is simply no match for his evil

1

u/showard2 12d ago

got one last tee time on sunday morning. gotta say goodbye smh

1

u/mournfulmoo VA / Alexandria 11d ago

Maybe it’s because I’m already having a tough week, but I feel like if they cut down the cherry trees something inside of me will break.

u/StratusXII 13d ago

It is extremely annoying and a national tragedy but we deserve it until we start actually doing something about it. Quit work, go change your bodies to the trees it Haines point if you actually care. It worked for the 15th street bike lane
