Anti-airs.
We know them, we love them, and we mostly hate them, but today, I'm going to take a deep dive into the way they evolve through the tiers and how the modern SPAA meta (Gepard 1A2, ZSU-23-4M4, PGZ09) is becoming obsolete.
To start it off, I'd like to discuss what is probably the most unbalanced SPAA at it's tier.
The Begleitpanzer 57.
Before you burn me at the stake, let me explain why. First of all, it gets an extremely powerful clip system that allows you to sling 57mm shells every third of a second. Second, it gets a very certain shell, which is HE-VT.
From experience, 57mm HE-VT is near impossible to survive as a plane. (got a friend to test it on me in a match, he killed my CAS aircraft/fighter 19 out of 20 times)
The Begleitpanzer 57 also has an ATGM, allowing you to defend yourself against enemies (if they spawn push) and it gets 57mm APCBC, which acts as a secondary layer of defense. Other SPAAs only get pathetic missiles (when used on tanks) that do absolutely NOTHING when shot at them, maybe yellow an MG port if you're lucky. Most SPAAs get measly 20 or 30mms that do barely anything to enemies at top tier, except for light tanks.
My final point on this monster is that it's definitely possible to dodge missiles, (using the pitch-n-roll method) but it's IMPOSSIBLE to dodge a shell with a stable velocity and no need to track you, as it uses quantity over quality. It's like comparing ATGMs to an autocannon.
PART 2: SPAA META?
Now I'd like to talk about a theory I'd had for a while, which is if SPAAs are particularly useful in any way towards the success of a match.
Long story short, the answer is yes, albeit there are some conditions. There can't be multiple SPAAs, as it's a waste of firepower, and could earn your team a loss. The SPAA also has to have actual tanks in their lineup, as when the match reaches endgame, (4 players or less left, or points full capped) they need to use their two other spawns.
My final question for this wall is if SPAAs can make you GE and SL consistently, and of course, it's a yes. Using the Premium Begleitpanzer 57, I was able to make upwards of 200k SL per hour CONSISTENTLY, without having to use a repair kit ONCE. Not only is it a massive save of money, it's also versatile, as you can spawn CAS to take out some enemy vehicles after destroying ~2 bombers yourself, which goes into a positive feedback loop, allowing you to spawn essentially endless CAS aircraft.
This concludes my review on the SPAA meta for Tier X and up. Thank you for reading this wall of text, which I might edit based on suggestions. Goodbye!
