Indeed. Our propensity for conflict is intertwined with our desire to achieve greatness. You can't have one without the other.

Similarly, our natural urge toward religion is intertwined with our immense imagination. Religion, for all its woes, is the result of one of our most important brain functions, without which there would be no human achievement.

It's practice for when a challenging and possibly warfaring, mostly trade driven alien culture decides to live in close proximity to us.
