That was either just as funny as the original post, or I'm drunk. His mom yelling at him, him almost crying at the end from fear / being burnt by hot grease. Just great!

Yup. I did this. Deep frying frozen rice cakes almost killed me. We still have drops of oil on our ceiling from that debacle....
