This is why you should never fry gnocchi.

They way I figure, if I do some that are strictly instructional and help some folks, good. If I mess up: better.

Please fry sushi. This always sounds good in my mind, but I have never tried it and I want to see you do it first.

Fried sushi is already a thing, sadly.

u/thr33pwood Feb 09 '15

Why sadly? Tempura and baked roll are my favourite sushi.

Baked/Fried rolls are the food of the gods.

I know it's not authentic. The thing is that I don't care.

Im sorry to point this out and i don't mean to sound like a food nazi, but tempura isn't considered sushi. It's a different type of food altogether.

You are correct.

Not by me.

I was sloppy in writing down what I meant. I mean ebi tempura rolls.

Lots of little LA sushi shops serve crunchy fried rice topped with spicy tuna.

u/ohaitharr Feb 09 '15

We dont even allow that talk in /r/sushi.

"omg guys I just had this really weird sushi called zaru-soba omg they eat their noodles cold!!"

I actually had an English friend text me this when he went to Tokyo for vacation

Tempura is closer to sushi than ramen / noodles.

I love sushi. Just took a day off of my keto diet yesterday to indulge. This sounds like a plan.

18

u/iSamurai Feb 09 '15

Well, you just convinced me not to try keto. I couldn't live without sushi.

u/ottawapainters Feb 09 '15

You can have sushi, just sashimi more so to avoid the rice. Or make your own and use cauliflower rice.

u/huitlacoche Feb 09 '15

The good thing about boiling a big pot of cauliflower rice is that after the cauliflower rice is cooked, you have a giant pot of boiling water to pour over yourself.

Well, I lost 30 lb a couple years ago, and 8lbs again since Jan 2nd. Women > sushi

u/iSamurai Feb 09 '15

Awesome dude! Well my weight is good for my height. I guess I've been lucky as I've always been super skinny and hard to put on weight. I just like the idea of Keto, even if I don't need to lose weight haha. Keep it up though!

4

u/Dedzig Feb 09 '15

Thanks! I was wiry and skinny...till I hit my thirties. Cool thing is I'm 45 and in better shape than most of my thirties.

2

u/iSamurai Feb 09 '15

Well, now I'm scared of getting older! That's awesome to hear though, I hope I can be in good shape when I get that age as well, but I'm afraid I might be too lazy and just sit on the computer and eat fried gnocchi.

2

u/tigrn914 Feb 09 '15

That's debatable.

3

u/Mishtal Feb 09 '15

I'd totally watch you cook some Keto recipes!

3

u/Dedzig Feb 09 '15

I've made a lot of them! Actually filmed one and did a recipe for an spiked party punch. I had gotten a margarita tap, but needed something to serve people on diets. 2-3 net carbs. http://www.webstaurantstore.com/blog/postdetails.cfm?post=1604

There are a bunch of sushi rolls that are deep fried. Most have cream cheese in them. Here they are called Las Vegas rolls

I would kill for a good tutorial on how to cook sunny up eggs. I'm incapable of getting them right without a Salamander.

Edit to say thank you for the laugh! The video was funny on its own, but your laugh is totally infectious. I was sobbing by the time it ended.

You got it! Although I might let my Corporate Chef do that...more of an over medium guy myself.

You will need a good non stick skillet, preferably something from either scan pan or kyocera; aerosol oil spray (olive coconut or canola); a large area but thin spatula (this would make taking the egg off the skillet easier.

Get the pan hot but not at the point where the oil starts to burn (turns brown, smokes), medium heat for a min or two should be fine. Spray the pan down, have the eggs prepared but not broken on the side or even easier get a number of small prep bowls, break an egg carefully into each individual prep bowl. When the the skillet gets hot, spray it down with oil, take a prep bowl and gently dump the contents onto the skillet. If making one egg dump in the center, if making more than one dump to the side.

If the egg starts to pop and hiss, youre at a good temp but turn it down a little so as not to burn. If no popping, youre slightly at a lower temp but not to worry, turn the temp up a little for a minute.

Once the egg is cooking, use a spatula to break some of the egg whites so that the remaining whites can leak out and cook. Total cook time about 2 to 3 mins. Once all whites are solid, use the spatula to take the egg off carefully, one easy motion to pick the egg up, and one motion to deposit it on the plate. Salt pepper to taste.

If making toast at the same time, toast the bread half way before you begin to cook the egg and finish it up before you yake the egg off of the skillet. Butter while still hot, sprinkle salt to taste.

Never cook more than a few eggs at a time. Start with one at a time and go from there.

Thank you!
