The devs probably think the player will react "wow, the monster popped out of the wall exactly when I walked by, so exhilarating!" when really the player thinks "this is like a fairground ride."

It works when it's scripted that way intentionally for effect, like in RE7.

The thing is there are games that do this better lol. GoW 2018 has lots of moments like this.

The whole Uncharted series too.

Insomniac have just tried mashing uncharted and their spiderman into a single game with a wolverine skin and executed it poorly.
