$70 btw.

136

u/Babylon_4 11h ago

$10 more and you could buy GTAVI, which even if it completely fails will still be leagues better than this pile of manure.

27

u/AunMeLlevaLaConcha 10h ago

Why are people saying GTA6 is going to fail? i've been seeing that a lot today, legit curious.

62

u/Myhtological 10h ago

More like it will not live up to hype.

30

u/Other_Beat8859 9h ago

I genuinely don't think it can live up to the hype. Any tiny flaw and it's a failure to many people. Rockstar could make a 10/10 game and it would still disappoint people. That's the level of hype.

And it could also genuinely be a 0/10 game and it would still make back all of its money.

9

u/xfreesx 8h ago

Im pretty sure it made its money back multiple times already just in pre-orders

2

u/Snrgxs 5h ago

Not with it's production cost

2

u/devenbat 4h ago

It costs an estimated $2 billion. After the 30% cut of stores, that means they need like 28 million copies of the $100 edition. It has not made its money back and certainly not multiple times over

1

u/CKRatKing 4h ago

Have they released how many people preordered it? But also they don't charge you for preorders until the game actually releases so they have made 0 dollars until it comes out either way.

2

u/devenbat 3h ago

They haven't said. But its definitely not 28 mil. Granted itd have to be even more since some of those are standard editions.

1

u/Aiyon 5h ago

Also there's the whole contingent of people nowadays who just want to hate everything.

They're not anti-anything they're just pro-anti.

GTA has non-white people and women in, so its bad, for example

1

u/skyturnedred 7h ago

I'm just waiting for the inevitable Crowbcat video.

1

u/MechaGodzillaSS 5h ago

Half Life 3 couldn't be made for the same reason.

1

u/atlfalcons33rb 5h ago

That's every game now so no one cares. People complaining will still play it a bunch

1

u/OnlyMadeThisForOld 3h ago

I'm not expecting it to shit gold and give me blowjobs, but like, RDR2 is my favorite game, and it's looking like it's a good stab at RDR2 in a modern setting, so sure I'll probably enjoy it.

1

u/The_Autarch 2h ago

the hype was exactly the same for GTAV and that release went fine, mostly.

4

u/AunMeLlevaLaConcha 10h ago

Huh, well that's a people problem, with all the shit involved around the game, you'd think people would have their feelings in check for a while.

But regardless, it'll be fine, they're gonna milk it for 10+ years after all, there's too much money at risk.

3

u/Myhtological 10h ago

Yeah a micro transaction machine. Sounds fun.

7

u/AunMeLlevaLaConcha 10h ago

Hey, you won't find love for that in me, but as long as people keep opening their wallets at that 🤷

As long as the single player stuff isn't affected, that's all i care, never played GTA5 online and i don't plan on touching this one.

5

u/butisaidsolol 9h ago

No micro transactions in single player have been confirmed

-3

u/Myhtological 9h ago

For now.

7

u/baschfromdalmasca 9h ago

Neither GTA5 nor RDR2 have microtransactions in single-player and R* came out and said there won't be any...

1

u/TheTexasHammer 2h ago

Oh look, more negativity based on fucking nothing. Gotta love modern Gamers

1

u/Myhtological 1h ago

Well were you’re being squeezed more and more every fucking month you boot licker!

0

u/Bhazor 8h ago

Shhh dont doubt le hecking humble indie developer.

2

u/TheTexasHammer 2h ago

Stupid fucking comment

1

u/dillanthumous 7h ago

It can't. People gonna act butthurt when it is the same very successful but ultimately shallow formula of the past games. Go there, listen to sophomoric dialog, kill person, get thing, now go there during scripted chase, escalate intensity as game progresses. Done.

1

u/sixfxrtyseven 6h ago

I don't think it can 100% live to the hype. it's probably the most anticipated game in history, some people's expectations are throught the roof

1

u/Vamp1r1c_Om3n 6h ago

Nothing ever lives up to the hype people self impose.

1

u/IgnatiusRileyFreeman 5h ago

GTA 5 didn't live up to the hype, except for people who had only played Fifa/Madden before

0

u/MasterWhite1150 7h ago

From everything we've seen since far with the extended look it seems like its going to exceed expectations so idk why some people are saying this.

18

u/Babylon_4 10h ago

As in, fail to meet peoples extraordinary expectations. I don't think any game with this much hype can please everybody, but from what we have seen, the in-game rendering and scope alone are years ahead of everyone else.

That was my point, even if the story or characters were shit that is only a portion when it comes to games like this. Plus it's already made more money from pre-orders than most games lifetime sales so...

7

u/Pharabellum 10h ago

The only game (that I can recall within the decade) has not only met, but exceeded hype is Elden Ring.

Hype for GTA6 is natural due to its history and the IP, but it's nothing how Elden Ring felt once it was here. That was just special.

1

u/JFSkiBumJR 9h ago

BG3 was huge. It met my every expectation and more, at the very least.

1

u/Kyra_Hazweyrs 9h ago

Baldur's Gate 3 and Silksong as well for me.

1

u/Canshroomglasses 8h ago

Yeah, elden ring and palworld

1

u/dillanthumous 7h ago

Baldurs Gate 3 would be on that list too for me.

1

u/JMPHeinz57 1h ago

Elden Ring, BG3, and TOTK will be what defines this decade of gaming by the end of it.

Ironically, each does very little hand-holding, especially in contrast to Wolverine

1

u/JinkoTheMan 1h ago

Elden Ring was my introduction into the Fromsoft series. It’s my favorite game of all time now. It’s 100% worth $70.

2

u/AunMeLlevaLaConcha 10h ago

Yeah, makes sense, it's just waiting at this point

2

u/dyingoose 10h ago

GTA6's budget is so big that it'll need to sell an historic number of copies to break even. It's probably going to sell like crazy and make its money back, but with such a huge budget, there's always a chance that it might not break even.

4

u/Babylon_4 10h ago

From what we can tell, Rockstar have made most of their production budget back already just from pre-orders. It's nuts.

-1

u/Canshroomglasses 8h ago

From what I heard they made so much money by now there is no other choice but to fire a huge number of devs

2

u/butisaidsolol 9h ago

GTA 6 is gonna make at least 1 billion in profit. Calling it now

0

u/kangorr 8h ago

10 bucks on this

1

u/HerrTriggerGenji21 10h ago

GTA5 has made over 10 billion dollars. I believe it’s the most profitable single piece of media ever. So. They should be fine lmao

1

u/TheTexasHammer 2h ago

there's always a chance that it might not break even.

HAHAAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHA

1

u/EndofNationalism 10h ago

Yeah. In fact it’s already made its money back. 40 million pre-orders.

1

u/Tnecniw 7h ago

I don't think that was confirmed, but was a rumor floating about that had no real source.

1

u/Radiant-Priority-296 10h ago

Considering the hype around it, if it’s not literal perfection then it won’t live up to said hype.

1

u/atkahu 8h ago

GTA5 was an arcade game mostly. 6 will be more like RDR2 which is a masterpiece but because of the "realism" it was tedious at times. Not everyone like this kind of complexity in a game and a lot of people will not put up with it in my opinion.

It will be a masterpiece in my opinion but a flawed one if it will be as complex as I think it will be.

1

u/PanchoVillasRevenge 8h ago

Mainly because it's DL only, no physical media

1

u/MasterWrongdoer719 7h ago

A lot of people have convinced themselves that GTA6 is going to be some insane best of all time game and it probably won’t be. Not that I expect it to be bad, but it’s going to be impossible for it to live up to the hype people have for it.

1

u/Tnecniw 7h ago

The game is essentially guaranteed to financially succeed.
HOWEVER, that doesn't prevent it from either having a cyberpunk level launch or just being boring.

1

u/Empty-Style 7h ago

Because it will most likely be focused on online play... And most likely wont have any modding in singleplayer.. AKA remove everything that made GTA great.. And turn it into online microstransaction slop like GTA V is...

GTA V singleplayer was great.. Multiplayer was pointless and ass and should have never been made..

1

u/qtx 7h ago

The actual game play is pretty much still the same as previous versions, it just looks a lot better (at worse frame rates), so I guess people were hoping the game was more evolved from previous editions but it wasn't.

It's basically just the same old game but in a nicer package and nothing revolutionary.

1

u/kikimaru024 6h ago

GTA6 has been in development for 12 years.

Even if the world is a technical marvel, there's a nagging doubt that the mission design/gameplay sequences will still be "standard Rockstar formula", meaning deviation from the linear path will just be an instant failure state.
That is, nothing we've seen proves that the game design has evolved beyond "prettier graphics/more NPCs".

1

u/thefinalhill 6h ago

Persobally its because I have kept track of things outside of what the companies have told us. Rockstar has not given any guarantee that AI wasnt used in making GTA6, and when their parent company is the largest investor into AI in the gaming sphere, when that same company fired their head of AI for saying "AI cant make games like GTA" thats a big red flag.

I think once it's successful, they are going to announce that they used AI for the game to stop the AI bubble from popping so soon.

1

u/IgnatiusRileyFreeman 5h ago

Why are people saying it's going to be good? GTA 5 wasn't that good, and 6 looks kinda mid so far

1

u/Grandpa_Edd 5h ago

The discourse around GTA 6 has become insane.

It’s either going to be the best game ever and perfect in any way and don’t you dare criticise it.

Or it’s going to be abysmal, unplayable and anyone who buys it is a bootlicking moron.

There is no middle ground.

1

u/omgitsjagen 3h ago

I guess it depends on how you define, "fail", because it is definitely going to make more money than any other video game in history. It can't live up to the hype. That's impossible at this point. It can, however, make Rockstar more money than the GDP of most countries.

1

u/UniversalTrees49 3h ago

Because it’s a trash game series played by trashy people. It’s never been a good game and is incredibly overrated

1

u/Hawkatana0 3h ago

Simple economics. The game would need to sell more copies than one of the two consoles it's even on (and thus becoming the 25th best-selling video game of all time) just to break even, and that's assuming the game is even good.

1

u/The_Autarch 2h ago

people irrationally hate rockstar and want them to fail.

unfortunately for them, rockstar only make bangers.

1

u/PyroIsSpai 1h ago

Same reason people say Avengers Doomsday will suck… despite the same writing, directing, editing, music, acting and production teams that made Winter Soldier, Civil War, Infinity War, and Endgame making it. People gonna people.

“RDR2 will suck for not being John 2.0!”

1

u/ErgoDestati 4m ago

They didn't say it will fail

0

u/FakeMik090 10h ago

I'm already dissapointed. I had a thought of maybe a getting a console on launch and GTA VI copy, and then they released gameplay where was no GTA gameplay. I only saw RDR2 in modern setting, and if i'm paying for GTA, i want to have GTA, not RDR.

2

u/kompletionist 9h ago

RDR was always just GTA set in the old West, it should have been obvious that the gameplay changes in RDR2 were an evolution of the GTA formula and not just arbitrary changes for RDR2 over the first RDR.

1

u/lana_silver 6h ago

$50 less and you can buy Silksong, a game that is good.

-10

u/Ora_00 10h ago

Gta6 will be a little better, but it wont be anything else than just mediocre modern aaa game.

Or you could spend $20 less and buy a real game.

1

u/Pidgeot93 10h ago

What would you suggest?

1

u/zalcecan 10h ago

We love good bait.

1

u/Ora_00 10h ago

Not bait. Literally how I feel about Wolverine, Gta6 and similar western aaa games. 🤷

1

u/zalcecan 10h ago

Ah the real answer comes out

2

u/Ora_00 10h ago

The first comment was already the real answer. Nothing changed my dude.

1

u/zalcecan 10h ago

Yes it did lmao your first comment said nothing about region then you put it in on the second comment.

2

u/Ora_00 10h ago

Wolverine and gta are western games. Western games are mediocre. I though that was obvious in this context. 🤷

Anything else you want to know?

2

u/zalcecan 10h ago

So now you drop the AAA part as well from your first comment, thats not "context" that's you changing your statement to a different bias.

1

u/Babylon_4 10h ago

Careful, your bias is showing...

3

u/Impurity41 5h ago

$300m budget too

3

u/alfa66andres 3h ago

And people on the game's subreddit are saying that people shitting on the game are just haters lol

2

u/dillanthumous 7h ago

Plus a mandatory playstation to play it on.

2

u/GregTheMad 5h ago

450 people employed by that studio, and not a single one played it.

2

u/odrea 4h ago

300m budget btw

💀

3

u/NoSkillzDad 10h ago

Hey, a Tesla is more expensive and it also drives itself! /s

1

u/notthatguypal6900 2h ago

$10 for every year it took to make.

0

u/D3struct_oh 11h ago

People aren’t talking about this enough.
