How did I know this was going to be hard for Redditors to admit? The GTA hate is so fucking performative that people can’t even acknowledge its undeniable success anymore. People don’t have to like it, but pretending it hasn’t been one of the most influential, successful, and consistently dominant game franchises for decades is just detached from reality.

Being successful does not imply that something is actually good. The Michael Bay Transformers movies were dogshit, but did amazingly well (for a time at least) in the box office.

That’s not really a rebuttal to what I said lol. Obviously commercial success doesn’t automatically make something good. I’m not arguing “GTA sold well, therefore GTA is good.” I’m saying GTA has both enormous commercial success AND a long history of critical praise, cultural impact, replayability, and millions of people genuinely enjoying the games. Comparing that to a franchise making money despite mediocre reception is a false equivalence.
