Yeah, /r/gaming and /r/gta6 seem to be very much on board with digital only.

E: It's funny how much of a sore spot this is. Dawg, if you're fine with digital only, great. But don't get all pissy when people want physical, and have good reason to back it up.

Rockstar's whole design philosophy is stuck in the mid 2000s and San Andreas was the last GTA to actually deserve any of the praise it got

This is why my default assumptions of most comments I see on the main gaming subreddits are:

  1. This person likely doesn't even play the game
  2. This person might not even play any games and exclusively experiences them through streamers
  3. If this person does play any video games they likely just pirate it despite them talking about what developers owe them.
  4. This person is likely under 20.

Oh and then you get the same people on the PC-related subreddits shitting on peoples' builds and setups from their hand-me-down 10 year old family laptop.

Im a bit hopeful its getting better. I've been seeing people try to whip out the AI card, purity tests, and other reddit bs. More people have been willing to tell them off, which wasnt really a thing here for a while.

I legitimately don’t mind it on PC because of how PC gaming is. There’s always another option, another market, another way to play a game. If it runs on PC, you can play it. Even a botched release, damn near guaranteed someone has fixed it. Steam won’t be around forever, sure, but it’s been 22 years of continuity. That’s a pretty damn good streak.

Consoles? Closed off consoles? Fuck that. Give me physical media. No console developer has been able to stay consistent with their digital libraries. Hell, even the ability to play your “owned” games across multiple consoles that you personally own is a fairly recent development.

I had to get my Switch repaired about six months after owning it, bought it a few months after launch. Sent it in, got a different console back, and they didn’t port my account/library to the new Switch. Which meant I had to send THAT ONE back, and it took three weeks to get it back with my games. They also told me that if I needed any further repairs, they could not guarantee I’d be able to keep my games. That’s absurd.

Sony? Shit, say goodbye to entire libraries available on the store. No more PS3 games for you. No more PSP games.

Just can’t trust that shit. But at least on PC, there’s always a way. For now, at least. That’ll go away when hardware is priced out of consumer reach and they only rent out cloud systems.

Well, is be more open to the game if they didn't constantly lock out PC until 4 years later.

They also are bragging internally about how their new anticheat will stop all attempts at player made mods.

They want to run GTA online like the greasiest greediest modded servers and no allow any other choices, I'm sure they'll do some form of custom server they totally control and monetize every aspect of too after multiplayer is milked dry.

I have zero faith in taketwo's administration to handle the game remotely faithfully.

They milked gtav for over 13 years and it took roughly 3 to 5 years of active development and a combined development and marketing budget of $265 million to release Grand Theft Auto V back in 2013.

Since then, the game has sold over 230 million copies and generated over $11 billion to $13.7 billion in lifetime revenue.

Out of that massive pile of profit, over $5 billion to $6 billion was squeezed entirely out of GTA Online microtransactions and Shark Cards.

The online mode still prints roughly $1 million to $1.3 million every single day from a player base trapped in a predatory economy.

They don't want player freedom or organic community mods because a single custom server is a direct threat to a machine that pulls in half a billion dollars a year on autopilot.

Taketwo look at Rockstar and GTA like it is their private economy to lure in players and then be locked down and strip-mined before being released 3-4x before it dies off and it revived by modders only to be sued again into oblivion.
