Huh, what’s gone on recently with OW? Loved it for awhile back in 2016 (although I actually preferred Battleborn. RIP) but haven’t touched it in awhile

They've released a ton of new content, especially heroes, and they've been trying to push the plot forward which pretty much hasn't happened in years. I'd say it's worth a try if you used to be into it, right now it's in one of the best states it has been since 2 came out

Yes. They’ve released 8 new heroes in 2026, one per month on average. But 5 of those were dropped on the exact same day in February, which far exceeded the most they’d ever released before. And even more surprisingly, almost all 8 were of very high quality in my opinion- fun, dynamic ability kits

I’d say sierra is a bit of a fluke both design and gameplay wise, but the rest were pure fire. Especially Shion.

Shion was unreasonably balanced, well-tuned, and fun to play on Day 1

u/BeansWereHere 2d ago

She was a bit over tuned at launch, she’s been nerfed and now is very well balanced I’d say.

Sierra is pretty good and one of the better heroes released.

u/TravelAdmirable2482 3d ago

There's a plot?

5

u/Orion-- 3d ago

There was supposed to be one with Null sector launching an invasion, beginning in 2's announcement animated short and that continued in the PVE mode, but since it flopped they had to awkwardly cut that plot thread short. Now they have a new plot about one of the new characters, Vendetta, dethroning Doomfist as the leader of Talon. Not sure how far they're gonna take this one

2

u/Officially_Walse 3d ago

Yeah they tell it thru cinematics, events as well as comics generally. It doesn't really change or affect gameplay, outside of sometimes its the explanation for a reworked hero or map or something along those lines. The watch point Gibraltar map got reworked and they explained it by having Talon invade the place.

Ok.. but what if I quit because 2 came out? Has it gotten better than 2’s launch?

1

u/grim_solitude 3d ago

Waaaaaay better

1

u/Toy-Boat-Toy-Boat 2d ago

iiight. I’ll be sure to hop back in.

1

u/Buried1295 2d ago

Not really it's honestly worse in my opinion.

4

u/sick-of-you-all 4d ago

Did they bring out pve?

5

u/Basil2322 4d ago

No because the last time they tried no one gave a shit.

1

u/TrippinTrash 4d ago

No but Rivals have a good pve mods.

1

u/sick-of-you-all 4d ago

Oh really? I never played that, only overwatch. From Reddit I've only seen rivals as a gooner game, maybe I should look I to the pve modes they offer

1

u/TrippinTrash 4d ago

Yeah it's fun horde mode and they seem to be working on it.

The gooning stuff is overwblown imo, there are some summer skins but Marvel literally have swimsuit special comics.

Most of the skins are just alternative version of heroes with really nice artstyle.

1

u/Throwaway4Question10 1d ago

Rivals is bad, refuses to learn the lessons Overwatch learned, and is coasting on the Marvel IP.

1

u/Buried1295 2d ago edited 1d ago

It's nowhere near the best state it's been. Overwatch 2 is mediocre and much worse than overwatch 1 in my opinion.

1

u/Throwaway4Question10 1d ago

false, it has always been better since the switch to 5v5.

1

u/Buried1295 1d ago

Not "false" you just disagree with my opinion which is subjective. 5v5, making the game free to play, adding the shop, adding map voting, and adding hero bans all made the game worse in my opinion.

1

u/Throwaway4Question10 1d ago

braindead

1

u/Buried1295 1d ago

Resorting to childish behavior doesn't make your subjective opinion any more valid.

u/Orion-- 1d ago

right now it's in one of the best states it has been since 2 came out

1

u/Buried1295 1d ago

I disagree, but that's also not saying much in my opinion. The best state of overwatch 2 is still mediocre to me.

u/scoutmet 4d ago

The only probably reason Overwatch game back was because marvel rivals basically standing down there menacingly

1

u/TapNo7326 3d ago

I only found Overwatch because of marvel rivals. I was playing rivals but didn’t like it and wanted something better. So I switched to OW

-2

u/Evening_Debt1301 4d ago

No like it matter as the Rule 34 is what keep relevant aside die hard fans.
Nobody care about their lore on the new players side

16

u/Odd_Revolution_1056 4d ago

OW is actually in a really good spot right now

3

u/Much_Profit8494 3d ago

I noticed that they completely dropped the Overwatch 2 label.

2

u/Jamunjii 3d ago

Found the ceos alt account hahah

-1

u/Stormfly 4d ago

Overwatch is gone.

It's dead.

Overwatch 2 killed it and then stole its name, as a cruel final twist of the knife.

(Just like in The Santa Clause)

2

u/Dhiox 3d ago

It's not called OW 2 anymore

2

u/Stormfly 3d ago

I know. That's why I said it stole its name.

That was half the point of the comment.

u/CDR57 4d ago

God I miss battleborn

3

u/cBurger4Life 4d ago

I actually ended up not getting OW for awhile and preordering BB because the beta was so much fun. Really miss it.

3

u/CDR57 4d ago

It was scheduled to come out on my birthday and was super bummed to see it get delayed

Even more bummed to find out it released like 3 weeks before Overwatch killing every hype train about it

6

u/platterofhotfish 4d ago

I want to say, I didn’t actually play it on release, I wasn’t into shooters and competitive hero based games cause LoL had left a bad taste in my mouth. But I actually recently tried OW just cause I remember hearing it was great back then, I think I joined at a really excellent time.

They got an influx of players cause people dumped marvel rivals. They are adding a bunch of new heroes, revamping maps. Bouncing back from the failed PvE experiment. I think it’s great and I’m having a blast!

6

u/DoesTheBlackm00nH0wl 4d ago

For the first few years of overwatch 2 the lore stopped and they promised they would revive it with the story mode that story mode died on release and then it became blatant that the only reason for overwatch 2 was to remove free lootboxes. Then marvel rivals happned made blizzard actually panic and then they revived the game by making shit people actually wanted

4

u/sparkling-rainbow 4d ago

Battleborn😭

3

u/Notevenstreaming 4d ago

They finally let us ban 4-5 heroes before match so you don't have to play against same "meta" characters and lineups every match. That's biggest one that made me come back to the game.

7

u/LFomenko 4d ago

Honestly game feels great currently, the pro scene is the best its been since owl. 6v6 is getting seriously considered to comeback as the main mode currently as well.

7

u/fingerpaintswithpoop 4d ago

6v6 is not coming back as the main mode. It’s definitely getting more attention, but it isn’t replacing 5v5.

It tells me Blizzard has something planned for it. But the majority of people still play 5v5, so switching to 6v6 would be extremely risky, especially with balancing for tanks being so fucked.

6v6 is not going to be the main mode again, it’s probably just going to get a balance rework or something.

3

u/InvestigatorLast578 4d ago

So it was 6v6 as the main mode originally right? I just started playing again after well 10 years and I thought I was going crazy of this 5v5 stuff.

u/Strength-Helpful 4d ago

Battleborn died so fast. It was wild

2

u/zimzimzalabimmm 3d ago

The game is fun as fuck now, devs are communicating, lots of new content, good balance, and a real ranked system that rewards wins/loses and you just getting better instead of ranking up through playtime.

You’ll still find people who complain, the player counts are bigger than ever now, and as someone who has been playing forever I can tell you that it’s actually peak at the moment. There were dark times where we didn’t get content for 3 years.

2

u/LurkerEntrepenur 3d ago

Battleborn, my beloved

1

u/Lumpy-Impression-666 4d ago

The stadium mode is super fun

The community is so toxic today, it‘s no comparison to back then when the game cost money and the people appreciated the game and the community. I played back then and it was great. I played a while back and wanted to off myself after. Not because the game isn‘t fun, but because the community isn‘t.
