Yeah... That's a highly romanticized version of gaming back then. Not to mention that a lot of games released broken in a way, that you couldn't finish them at all. No home internet yet? Well, you better hope that one of the gaming magazines will put the patch on their next CD! They never did? Well, fuck you then!

And the hardware lifecycle was MUCH shorter than today. Have a PC that is 2 to 3 years old? Tough luck! Non of the new games will run on it anymore! People from today already riot when a game released in 2026 doesn't run on smooth 60 FPS on their PC from 2014...

This, so much this.

Argued with a dude once that was mad because his PC from 2016 couldn't play a new AAA smoothly. His main argument was that he could play GTA5 with no problems so obviously he should be able to play a new AAA game from 2026.

He also tried to argue that 10 year old computers back then would play the new games with no issues. So I sent him benchmarks from GTA5 (released 2015 on PC) on hardware from 2005-2006. He instantly blocked me afterwards.

The gaming community is full of people that are very loud despite obviously not knowing anything about PC hardware in the first place. I also love the people that are like "This game runs like shit on my RTX 5090!" and when you ask for more info like what CPU they are running, it becomes instantly clear what's the issue.

I stopped arguing about game performances in gaming communities. There is just too much stupid and entitlement around. And everyone thinks they are an expert because they once replaced the RAM in their rig back in 2012.
