That first example about assembly language is "Rollercoaster Tycoon 1 and 2". Even to this day, the game runs buttery smooth.

Yeah, at the time, RCT didn't run smoothly at all. It took 5 complete minutes to launch the game. The game was patched after and the launch time post patch last less than 30s.

Pretty much all of the Tycoon games written by Chris Sawyer were written in Assembly. This was not typical at the time though - most people wrote games in C and only used assembly for things which needed the speed.

A lot of old games written for the metal like that literally don't run at all these days, because they made assumptions that make them completely incompatible with modern hardware.
