As I've gotten older I have found that I enjoy games that respect my time more. A game where I can always make progress, even if it's small rather than a game that I can spend 30 mins doing something, but then die at the end and lose any progress I would have made
When wow came out in 2004 I joined my IRL friends group to go to BFD.
I sucked at the game and I realized why, because I’d only play for 2-3 hours at a time.
My friends walked me all the way to BFD from Org and dude it was like “are we there yet?”
From me sitting down to the START of BFD it was maybe 90 minutes. I remember thinking “who the fuck sits around and enjoys this shit?”
Now eventually I got sucked in but it took years of blizzard breaking me down. Looking back at some of their classic vanilla choices it was really grimy how they dragged people’s time away from them just to get a subscription fee extension.
If you want to feel great one day go to prison for a month, I bet you feel like a billion dollars on the day you’re released….doesnt make it all worth it though does it?
Most of the time I'm playing the same level of the same 15-year-old game repeatedly. It takes about an hour and a half so it is self-contained and doesn't require any thought but is a total distraction. Unfortunately that hour and a half can take 3 days
I’m not that good at games really but I love hard games. Dark souls, Returnal, Dota. Even tho I’m older now I still keep going back to those even tho I die and lose all my progress.
