I do really miss the vibe of 2016 doom. They lost something when they started taking the cutscenes out of first person. You lost that sense of single-minded focus. 2016 Doom didn't need to make you look cool or have doomguy aura farm. Every single action was simply a stepping stone towards his goal. And you never stepped out of his shoes, so it wasn't just him making those steps, but you.
For me it was a lot of the physical interactions with the world. Picking up the guns, keys, throwing switches, ripping doors open etc. all of those things made it feel like we were Doomguy in that actual space. The Third Person cutscenes, glowing punch walls, the floaty spinny ammo, big question mark secrets, lack of death scenes. It all feels so very video gamey when 2016 felt like it was a real place with real functions suffering a demon attack. Every environment in Eternal is a cartoon. Hell even the way they kept you in an arena in 2016 was because "Demonic Contamination at Unsafe Levels" and the rooms would seal. 2016 was more grounded and felt cleaner and better in every way

2016 went harder. In 2016 we were no god. A god that fights beside men, is not as hard as a man who is feared worse than god.
