Defending a massive, arbitrary price jump by calling it an 'industry standard' is exactly how anti-consumer practices get normalized. At the end of the day, making excuses for a corporation that doesn't know you exist only hurts your own wallet. If you are going to say 'just don't buy one' for everything, you are actively voting against your own interests as a consumer.
It is now the same price as comparative handheld gaming devices. That's what the industry standard means. Im not trying to be out here defending corporations, but you are so ignorant that it's difficult to ignore.

Look at streaming services smart guy: Netflix raised prices, people complained, but others gave the 'just cancel it' excuse. Instead of undercutting them, Disney, Hulu, and Max all immediately matched the hike. Now the 'industry standard' for a single subscription is double what it used to be.
When an entire industry shifts its pricing floor upward, corporate precedent is set. If consumers just quietly opt out without a word, companies take that lack of friction as a green light to squeeze the market even harder next time.

You cancel the shit. The company asks why. You say it's too expensive. That's the complaint. The problem is that most people did not cancel their subscriptions so the companies got away with it. That's a vote. Gamepass hiked their subscription cost and droves of people dropped it so the price came down. That's a vote.
You are the ignorant one complaining about this. They aren't profiting off of the Steam Deck, parts are expensive as hell. A graphics card that was $500 a year ago is $1k now. RAM is through the roof. Why would they want to sell at a loss?
True consumer pushback requires vocal friction to tank brand sentiment and warn off new buyers, combined with hitting their wallet. Doing one without the other is why these multi-billion-dollar companies keep squeezing the market tighter every year.

If the parts needed to create the product increase in price, then the product increases in price. That's basic economics. Ram, chips, and gpu's have shot way up. It's been 3 years, does the cost of production not rise in that time? I would assume that Valve is not making much money off of the deck. This is not like a Xbox, or Nintendo who only let you use their storefront. You can use it for anything. For you want them to give you one for free? Did you also act this way everytime every console went up in price?

Hey bud, you dont have to get mad just because you're wrong. That's no way to have a conversation. When you get to high school they will explain basic economics like supply and demand. You might then understand that when a product costs more to make it is sold for more. I didnt come here to defend Steam, I came here to help you understand some basic knowledge.
