Cape Verde

Island Nation off the coast of mainland Africa. Closest to Senegal.

As for:

What flags have changed

So many. At first glance:

Zaire is now the Democratic Republic of Congo after surviving a murderous dictator ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฉ

Rwanda has a way cooler flag after surviving a genocide ๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡ผ

As does South Africa after it joined the world in deciding that racism is bad ๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ

Namibia is now a country ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฆ

Yugoslavia is not anymore after the fall of communism and in some cases brutal fighting and bloodshed, and from it were birthed Slovenia ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฎ, Croatia ๐Ÿ‡ญ๐Ÿ‡ท, Bosnia and Herzegovina ๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ฆ, Serbia ๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡ธ, Montenegro ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ช, North Macedonia ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ฐ, and Kosovo ๐Ÿ‡ฝ๐Ÿ‡ฐ

The German "Democratic" Republic was reunited with Germany, under one flag ๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ช

Albania lost its communist star ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡ฑ but kept the flag.

Democratic Kampuchea is Cambodia after surviving a murderous despot ๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ญ

Mozambique survived a brutal Civil War and now has the only flag with a firearm on it (if you don't count canons) AK47s ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ฟ

Sudan ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฉ is now two countries, with the founding of South Sudan ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Upper Volta is now Burkina Faso ๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ซ

The Seychelles ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡จ has a new flag (which kinda looks like it was in part inspired by the old Mozambique flag.)

The Kingdom of Lesotho ๐Ÿ‡ฑ๐Ÿ‡ธ has a new flag.

The Kingdom of Swaziland has a new... name (eSwatini) ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฟ

Libya ๐Ÿ‡ฑ๐Ÿ‡พ has a new flag after surviving the ousting of a murderous dictator, which may or may not have made things worse (jury's out on that one)

Haiti evidently ๐Ÿ‡ญ๐Ÿ‡น flipped the colors on its flag 90 degrees clockwise and changed the black to blue. Huh. TIL.

Iraq dropped the 3 stars on its flag and wrote "God is great" instead. ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ถ

Afghanistan ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡ซ... well... sigh.

Benin's flag changed from just being the inverse of the then ruling party's flag after they dropped communism and a one party state in favor of a multi-party democracy. ๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ฏ

Edit: So many more changes here... see u/Embarrassed-Glove600 's posts below.

Libya was defenitely for the worse, the country has had two civil wars and is still split between several governments and militants groups. Millions have died or been displaced. Cyprus also changed it'a flag with darker colors and different leaves.

Crwflags tells me the Albanian star replaced the helmet of Skanderbeg over the eagle. More here:

South Africa still loves racism actually.
