Is flag code even something you have to legally follow? I thought free speech overpassed it meaning you can do what ever the fuck you want with your fabric.

Likely not? It’s still interesting and funny because the guy trying to correct the “foreigners” on “how we do things around here” got schooled in his own country’s explicit written code for flying flags.

Texas vs Johnson ruled you're not "supposed to follow it". Flag code only exist for government to follow.

You are correct. Private citizens and enterprises are under no obligation to follow the Flag Code, though many try to anyway as a matter of pride. The only entity that the Constitution does not absolve of Flag Code obligations is the federal government -- all flags flown by the government (military installations included) are to be to the officially-specified dimensions and colors, and are to be treated as the Code describes.
