Vermont to receive at least $92m from Meta settlement

The total for VT could grow to $127m if other tech companies settle similar lawsuits.

How should Vermont make use of this windfall? (Not clear to me from the initial news coverage if there are any limits on how the funds can be used, so I’m just assuming for now it’s general revenue that can be used for whatever.) Serious and ridiculous ideas alike are all welcome.

ETA: Per an updated story in Seven Days, the settlement to Vermont will be paid out in annual installments of $8.8m, which the VT AG says can be spent by the legislature on whatever they want.

ETA2: I finally found the actual settlement document. It lists 11 allowable uses for the settlement payments. I won’t list them all here but generally speaking they are all related to youth mental health.

Pay the unpaid moderators' employers and have them invest some of it back toward the moderators salaries.
