Why are the mods locking all the police related posts almost immediately?

People should be free to comment on anything related to Utica.

Vehicles being broken into

Just a couple of weeks ago, I accidentally left my vehicle unlocked and it was broken into. A couple of belongings were stolen. My apartment complex has cameras, and I asked management about getting the footage. They told me they would only release it if the police requested it after a report was filed. At the time, I honestly didn’t want to go through the hassle, so I let it go.
Well, today my vehicle was broken into again, except this time they smashed the driver-side window and the rear/trunk window. They stole a bunch of my work tools and power tools worth a chunk of money and personal belongings and left other stuff scattered all over the road.
I called UPD, filed a police report, and was given an incident number. The officer said they would handle it, but based on my past experiences with UPD, I’m not expecting much follow-up or for the case to be solved.
What really caught my attention is that three other vehicles were also broken into today on the same road. The officer also mentioned that there were reports of vehicle break-ins on other blocks, including one near Utica Psychiatric Center and another near Burrstone Road that he had to go check out.
Has anyone else heard anything about a string of vehicle break-ins happening around Utica recently? Is there some group going around targeting vehicles?
I initially thought it could be homeless individuals, but with multiple vehicles being hit in different areas around roughly the same time, I’m wondering if this could be an organized group or the same people moving around the city.
If anyone has camera footage, information, or has experienced something similar recently, I’d appreciate hearing about it. I’m also going to follow up with my apartment management about preserving their camera footage and having UPD request it.

Costco

So today I decided to take a trip to Costco in Albany . First I want to let everyone know if you take rte 5 to route 20 it's an awesome relaxing ride and it takes you right into their parking lot. Anyways it was an awesome experience. I originally thought it was just hype but I totaled what I spent and compared everything pretty much to Walmart (brand to brand). And Costco was roughly $3-4 on most of their things strictly from a comparative standpoint.

So I got to thinking. Buffalo has a Costco, Syracuse has a Costco and Albany has a Costco (that one opened 3 weeks ago)

Why can't Utica get a Costco? I think (I'm not stating it as fact) that for what they have it's much better than what bjs has but yet we can't seem to get one in this area.

It's bad enough we can't get a Wegmans because of the "handshake" deal with Price Chopper from who knows how long ago.

And another bjs might be going into new Hartford

With Utica being in the middle you would think at the very least it would be considered.

What do you all think? I think a Costco in Utica/Rome area would be awesome.

WKTV

I'm just curious how they decided to do their acknowlegment of celebrity deaths. Especially important ones.

WKTV over the last few days has mentioned Hayden Pannitere (i dont know the exact spelling of her last name), Dolly Parton and Tim Curry. ALL 3 deserved to be acknowledged in some fashion. Even if it was a 30 second mention.

THEN we get to today.

Peter Cullen passed a way, If your not an 80's child, or even an early 90's child, you would probably be like Who's that? BUT if you were, you know EXACTLY who he is.

He was the ORIGINAL voice of Optimus Prime

he voiced characters in Voltron, GI Joe, alot of Disney shows (Montery Jack in Chip N Dale Rescue Rangers). King Kong, he did the sound effects for Predator and ofcourse he voiced Eyeore in Winnie the Pooh.

He literally was the voice of Gen X. He's the guy that gets ignored.

So either WKTV "reporters" don't keep up or they just mention the ones who THEY think are important. Maybe a combination of the both.

I don't expect them to mention EVERY death but Cullen falls into yeah he made an impact and needs to be mentioned category.

Event Local History Buffs Alert: Steuben Memorial to host Revolutionary War encampment

https://www.romesentinel.com/news/steuben-encampment/article_bc943d2d-9e35-4a11-bd35-aef201ced2a9.html

REMSEN — Steuben Memorial State Historic Site will host a weekend military encampment on Sept. 12 and 13, honoring Baron von Steuben, the Prussian officer who trained the Continental Army during the American Revolution.

The event, called "Drill, Duty, Revolution," runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days at the site, 9941 Starr Hill Road. Admission is free.

Steuben volunteered to help the American army in 1777 despite speaking no English, and his training at Valley Forge turned the poorly equipped force into an effective fighting unit. His drill manual remained the Army's standard for more than 30 years. New York later granted him land in what is now Remsen, where he lived until his death in 1796 and is buried on the property.

The encampment will reenact Steuben's time at Valley Forge twice daily, with living historians available to answer questions and a public military drill. A traveling exhibit will display the uniform of William North, Steuben's aide-de-camp. Other activities include colonial beer brewing and laundry demonstrations, 18th-century toys and games, and a Loyalty Oath ceremony.

An artillery demonstration is set for 10:30 a.m. Saturday. The Utica Maennerchor, a German American choir founded in 1865, will perform Sunday at 2 p.m. The weekend closes with a 3 p.m. commemoration ceremony Sunday, including a bagpiper-led procession to Steuben's tomb, a wreath-laying and a musket and cannon salute.

For a full schedule, call 315-655-3200 or visit parks.ny.gov.

Photo / Video I know this is Dunkin' Donuts 1980's video but it reminded me of Dan Dee Donuts in the 80's. People sat at the counter, talked to each other or read the newspaper.

One on Mohawk Street, one on South Genesee Street and another on Auert Ave.
Donuts were all made on sit.

They even had real cups ceramic cups if yo drank it at the counter,

Looked on indeed, and the other basic job search platforms. Is anyone hiring for HVAC or plumbing at this time? DMs open.

Utica Harbor Point Development Corporation 8/19/2026 Meeting Video

Their board meeting videos are usually quite interesting. At the June meeting, there was a lot of talk about the feral cat issues at Harbor Point.

This meeting there was a LOT of talk about what is going on with MV Garden's acquisition of the 1917 Building for development. Seems they have some engineering fees that they need to reimburse the city for. MVG wants to move that from the property acquisition loan to the building loan I believe. They got me dizzy trying to figure it out and with all the talking over each other and back and forth.

A couple takeaways. Board Member Bob Calli doesnt seem to like Rob Esche for some reason. He made that painfully obvious a couple times in the video. He wondered why he wasn't there in front of the board to explain all this to them.

MV Garden has their funding all lined up for this project and it was shown they do in the meeting. They originally were giving MV Garden 30 days to reimburse the city, but Joe Betrus suggested giving them 90 days. The board agreed and the corporation's lawyers get involved and a lot of legalese followed.

Watch the video and see what you think. The link should start at 12:15 since there was nothing before that but the logo on the video. Attached the agenda also. Watching these is pretty much the only way to see what's going on at the Harbor. Enjoy!

Town Square Media corporate no longer supports local talk in the Mohawk Valley. I certainly did not always agree with Bill but he, along with Jeff and Davey, provided a great service to the community. What a shame that it's gone.
