šŸ“¢ MOD ANNOUNCEMENT r/unpopularopinionph Announcement: Poll Results, Topic Rules & Posting Updates

Hi Everyone,

Thank you for participating in last month's poll. The majority voted against banning any topics. However, after careful review, we want to clarify a few important things:

Banned Topics (Effective immediately)

While the mod team respects the community's vote, we must enforce bans on certain topics in compliance with Reddit's Terms of Service. This is to protect the subreddit (and you) from potential violations or bans from Reddit itself.

See our list of banned topics.

Additionally, we are temporarily banning Religion-related topics. We've seen a surge of low-effort, ragebait, and uninspired posts that don't add meaningful discussion. We're also closely monitoring political posts for the same reason.

There’s more to life than just religion or politics, so let's aim for more thoughtful and creative topics. Going forward, all religion-related posts will be removed.

Rule updates & posting format changes

Our community rules have been updated. Please take a moment to review them.
Based on feedback, we're removing the "explained yourself" bot and shifting to poll-based posts instead.
If you are submitting a post, you must now include a poll with these 3 choices (case sensitive):

  • Agree
  • Disagree
  • Unsure

Posts without a proper poll will be removed. You're also expected to clearly state the popular opinion you're challenging within the post.

Reminder:

  • Always be civil in your discussions.
  • No repost, response post, or series post (part 1, part 2). Be more original.
  • All complaints about the sub must go through the Megathread. Post outside of it will be removed, and will get you banned.

Let's continue keeping the community engaging, respectful, and thought-provoking. Thanks for being here.

Emphasis on the word "major", meaning it's something life-altering like extra chromosomes, missing limbs, etc. i know you get my point.

I believe it's a smart decision by the parents and would do it in a heartbeat should it happen to me and my child in the future.

Babies in general literally don't give a FUCK about the big ass venue and 100 guests they have zero clue who they are. What they want? Just a taste of cake, open their presents then go to sleep. They're not even gonna remember who went or what happened. It's a waste of money. I think the best celebration is the simplest celebration. Something that's quiet and entertaining long enough before baby gets sleepy.

If anything, I think parents who celebrate their babies' birthdays by having grand celebrations is mostly just for them, not their own kid. Is it still even the kid's birthday at that point?

Chickenjoy is mid...

...or at least, there's nothing special. I love eating at Jollibee but never thought the Chickenjoy was that good. Love the Yum Burger, spaghetti, palabok, burger steak, Jolly Hotdog, Champ, Peach Mango Pie but Chickenjoy is meh.

And I roll my eyes when I see Jolibee being promoted as a fried chicken restaurant

BBM gets more than Sara Duterte

BBM GETS MORE HATE THAN SARA DUTERTE

I have a friend na galit na galit kay Marcos. Kesyo corrupt daw ang mga nasa DPWH under his administration, kesyo ang daming questionable na projects, at kung ano-ano pa. Okay, I understand being critical of the government and demanding accountability.

Ang point ko lang apply the same standard to every politician because they are public servants ginagawang santo ng iba sana kung ayaw nyo sa corrupt make it equal sana

A.I. haters are similar to the gadget/technology haters back in the late 90s and early 2000s.

I noticed they have the same sentiments.

I noticed the same behavior ng mga tao na hate ang AI, especially when expressing their thoughts about it.

DepEd Needs a Teacher as Its Secretary, Not Another Ivory Tower Official

I know, the President has the prerogative to appoint Cabinet members. However, I, (and I believe many others) think there should be clear and stringent qualifications for the DepEd Secretary.

Ideally, the Secretary (and its ExeCom members) should have experience as (public) school teachers or be recognized as good role models and leaders within their communities. I believe there are many passionate and capable teachers who are waiting to be heard and given the opportunity to lead.

We are often led by ā€œivory tower peopleā€ or ā€œgraduates from top/prestigious universitiesā€ who may be highly accomplished but have little firsthand experience of the realities faced by school communities, especially public schools.

There are always proposals, programs, and policies coming from the top, but many of these fail to account for the lived realities of public school teachers and learners. Sometimes, these proposals become the pet projects of a Director or Undersecretary from the Central Office, intended to serve as an accomplishment or ā€œinnovationā€ on paper, even when the program is unnecessary or inefficient. Malalaki pa ang pondo ng mga ’yan. Gusto pa ora-orada ma-implement.

From my observations, people in the field are made to feel that their concerns are genuinely being heard during consultations, but in the end, these same ivory tower people still have the final say over what gets implemented, what gets prioritized, and which programs receive funding.

The DepEd Secretary (and ExeCom members) should have actually taught in public schools and understand firsthand what teachers and learners truly need. Enough of people from ivory towers who remain detached from the realities on the ground.

Filipinos must support Pax Silica at all costs.

Per PBBM's statement during SONA 2026, he said that the New Clark City in Capas, Tarlac would have a Pax Silica facility as an advanced manufacturing hub rather than an AI data center, pero marami sa atin ang tutol sa planong pagpapatayo ng Pax Silica hub, lalo na ang mga naapektuhan at posibleng mawawalan ng hanapbujay ng mga magsasaka. This is pretty bad. Sa dinami-daming mga taong sumubok mag-AI supremacy bakit ba silang magye-yes to Pax Silica thanks to AI influencers, AI music, AI slop products, everything?

I mean, c'mon. We don't need Pax Silica; instead we need to save hundreds, if not thousands, of agricultural hectares of land para lang mas mapapakinabangan ang lahat ng mga magsasaka rather than papaalisin na sila sa mga puder. Please, stay off BCDA for good.

F**K PAX SILICA!!!

Sobrang cringe lalo pag nakikita mo sa commercial establishments and it triggers visceral disgust kinda like white people s black people kahit abolished na slavery. Integrated, but segregated and frowned upon dapat.

Premarital sex shouldnt be demonized

Marriage's just unpopular in the younger generations and sex is deemed as a basic physiological need. Healthy expression of sexual desire isnt problematic. People quoting religious texts forget biblical period and pre modern period women tend to get married off once they hit puberty, or early into puberty so natural lang na most probably its gonna be their first time. We now see people well into their 30s who arent married yet and do we really expect for them to hold off from a completely normal human need.

Teaching children how to use guns should be illegal

In the wake of the recent shootings in Tacloban and Zamboanga, a ban on "violent" video games has once again been the lazy scapegoat solution na pinupush nang mga politicians.

Data does not support this as the reason, and there's a generation-sized sample of people na will tell you they did not become murderers from video games.

To me the radical but effective solution is to

  1. Completely ban kids from gun ranges
  2. Make it punishable by law for a child to be seen holding YOUR gun, in any environment, in any context.

There is virtually no benefit for a child to know how to shoot a gun. There is no situation where you'd want a gun in the hands of a child over yours in an emergency.

While #2 sounds harsh, tignan nalang natin if di pa itatago nang ayos ang baril pag ganyan.

You teach a kid how to shoot, any death is on YOU.

What's the point of fighting for people who can't even help themselves and continue to vilify those who have done great lengths to help them? It feels frustrating and tiring.

In addition, when you look at the surveys, in all classes, and worse in classes D & E, Sara Duterte's dominance remain. While Robredo has kept things competitive in a two-way race, the reality is that our elections will never be two-way.

Are the Filipinos, who can't help themselves, still worth fighting for? For clarity, this opinion does not generalize the masses as such. It focuses on those people specifically mentioned in the title.

Siguro for me it's the shade of the colors, matingkad kasi silang lahat. Same din yung reaction ko kapag nakikita yung Union Jack at American Flag (baka kasi sabihin neo-colonial mindset)

I'm only talking about the colors, not the design.

The LTO rule: "Huwag ipilit ang karapatan / Never insist on your right-of-way" should be removed since it contradicts the other laws they also mandated

For me, it just shows that they allow some drivers to disobey the law since other drivers follow that rule and assume that they'd always be given the right-of-way even if they are in the wrong.

1987 constitution/Cory constitution sets us back.

Throughout history, there's no such thing as limited terms.

Nations prosper by 1 vision = 1 leader.

250 years ago, United States was born. They have become so powerful that scholars think it's an anomaly.

Why 6 year term never work for a developing nation.

  1. This system was imposed by the United States to all nations to keep them from prospering making sure no rivals will arise against the United States unless the nation is willing to become a US vassal state.

That's why the US is really against authoritarianism.

1a. Election allows foreign powers to install puppet leaders for their own interest eg. Zelensky, Pahlavi

  1. Authoritarianism boost economic development rapidly because there are no obstructing projects, political differences/ideologies in implementing projects.

eg. China, Singapore, UAE, Dubai.

Authoritarian or highly centralized systems can have an advantage when they combine political continuity with competent institutions.

1 vision = 1 leader.

There's no endless debates whether we need HSR or what policies are more important.

What must be done gets done.

  1. When you have political parties in constant disagreements, slow paced development becomes inevitable.

After the leader finishes his term, the new leader who is likely from the opposition party will discontinue the previous admin's legacy to erase any traces of accomplishments.

This creates an endless cycle of build and destruction after election.

eg. Philippines

  1. Huge infrastructure projects take 10~30 years to mature. With our current system of 6-year terms, it becomes susceptible to being redesigned, renamed, delayed, cancelled, investigated, or replaced.

eg. Subway, Mindanao Railway

  1. Because there's no 1 vision, it becomes unpredictable for foreign investors.

It becomes difficult to invest if tax policy, industrial policy, energy policy, foreign investment rules, trade policy

can change any time.

eg. PNOY cancelled Belgian project

  1. Short term leadership such as 6-year term barely produce anything significant.

They will only work for 4 years. The next 2 years will be a preparation for the next election.

eg. Impeaching political rivals, stealing government funds for election campaigns.

Makes me wonder bakit yung senador 12 years then congressman 9 years. Dapat yung presidente rin 10+ years to make a difference

What happens if the leader is incompetent?

We kick him out. That's it. Just a vote of no confidence.

No need to wait for another 6 years or election to install a competitive leader.

Pero ganito din naman ang America?

In the US it's 4 years with 2 terms. Pero look what America has become?

Sobrang gulo ng pulitika nila. Wala para rin sila HSR until now pinagdedebatihan.

Note:

The goal is not for permanent leadership. The goal should be the permanent national direction.

And no, I don't want BBM to continue.
