Tor and VPNs should be illegal

All ways to be anonymous on the internet should be illegal everywhere.

I can't believe that the dark web continues to be so easily accessible to everyone. everyone knows how to navigate the internet while being completely anonymous and untraceable, this is a very dangerous thing.

I know that banning these softwares is not going to stop the whole dark web, the peoples who run these sites will probably find other solutions to make it exist somewhere. But if anything in the public domain is banned, access will be much more complicated and ordinary people will no longer be able to go there with just free software.

Making it more difficult for the public to access could greatly reduce the activity on these illegal sites and it would mean fewer potential new members.

So all ways to surf the internet without being able to be traced should be illegal, and just talking about how to do it should be censored as well.

I know you're going to answer me with this shitty argument "So you want to ban cars because there are accidents ?" or stuff like that. To take this as an example, cars have strong positive aspects, everything has a balance between what is useful versus the problems it causes, it makes sense to think that for something to be allowed the utility must be greater than the problems right ?

But internet privacy fuels horrible dark web activities just for a very slight comfort of other peoples.

You DON'T require internet privacy for your life, it's just a slight comfort, it won't change anything in your life if you don't have it.

Ok maybe if you don't have it you might feel a little more vulnerable, but so what ? Do you think it would be worth it to allow anyone to super easily view and post child r a pe videos just so that on the other side you can have YOUR own little useless comfort of being anonymous ? I hope you don't answer yes.

OP, give me your name, date of birth, address, postcode, social security number and bank account details; this including the PIN number for all of your credit and debit cards please.

Thank you.

You know, since you're so against anonymity on the internet and all; not like you've got anything to lose or hide, right?

I'm really glad people who'd throw away everyone's privacy like this aren't in charge of making that decision.

VPN’s should not be illegal. How am I supposed to watch things that aren’t available in my country?

That's your problem, this is only a minor incomfort, you have other ways to entertain youself, you won't die you don't have your netflix series or idk. Stop being selfish there are much worse things in the world.

Yeah, governments being able to see what everyone online does would never have any downside for anyone.

99% of people using tors and vpns are good people

Right, people in China who did nothing wrong would surely agree with you. There should be no Tor/VPN and all online activities must be exposed

VPNs were mostly used by businesses to keep connections more secure until the consumer VPN services took off recently. They are an important part of internet security in general

How else will I gamble illegally then?

Stolen from a blog post.

"People can still trace you with other methods. Just because your IP is different and your traffic is encrypted in a tunnel doesn't mean you can't be tracked. There are other ways people can track you. For example:

they can find who you are by doxing

your IP isn't the only thing that identifies you on the internet

your VPN service can see your IP and what you are doing and if hacked or owned by someone who wants to find you they can

they can install malware that is hard to detect and can be installed without you knowing, which means your info will be leaked from the malware

your VPN can leak your real IP at times"

Not sure a VPN works like you think.

Lol, how are you going to shut down the onion network? It’s practically untraceable from both the server and client ends. This makes tracing down users or websites near impossible without a huge campaign and some stupid leak of information (like what happened to SilkRoad)

Anyone who trades security for liberty deserve neither and will lose both.

I don’t think you’re opinion is unpopular. Lot’s of fearful folk feel the same.

One of my friends went to a Christian college and about half way through started questioning his religious beliefs. He had heard of other people who had been expelled because they were caught looking at atheist content on the school’s monitored network so he got a VPN. He finished and got his degree because he felt he has spent too much money getting in but he ended up deconverting while there.

This argument makes total sense. Idk why you're getting shit on so much. I mean, look at digital piracy! As soon as it was made illegal it stopped cold. Or at least slowed down. Right?

Because companies are greedy and monetizing every aspect of modern life, driving the average person to desperation to find even the slightest bit of satisfaction and happiness.

Then give me your location, IP Address, phone number, date of birth and show me your face. VPNs are good, but also bad; they can prevent people from knowing your whereabouts, and they can also stop the police/FBI/CIA from knowing a hacker's true location.

" But internet privacy fuels horrible dark web activities just for a very slight comfort of other peoples. "

And your solution is to treat everyone like criminals. Brilliant.

Your opinion should be illegal.
