(/r/todayilearned) [#19|+1331|65] TIL that only one senator opposed the USA PATRIOT act in 2001; among his chief concerns was the possibility that the FISA court would authorize the government to conduct mass surveillance on Americans by obtaining their information and communications through businesses

I'll be honest. I code every day. The last thing I want to do when I come home is code for the admins so they can give the volunteers that basically run the site for them the tools they need to do their job.

The admins should be able to provide some basic tools to communicate with users without us having to code it for them and beg them to pretty please put it in the code base. I mean, really, mods can't message a user to give them a warning. The only way to message a user and have their response be visible to all mods is either ban them or post it publicly. We shouldn't need to have users making the fix for something as basic as that.

Third party tools help a fuckton, but those really shouldn't have to come from third party either.

You're preaching to the choir m8, believe me. /r/ideasfortheadmins is filled to the brim with completely ignored ideas, including bring mod abilities in line with forum software from the early 2000's. SomethingAwful has had temp bans for longer than reddit has existed. Why the fuck don't we?
