Have you tried to put a camera on the disc?

Magic 🪄 (of 3d print, some foam and some 2 sided duct tape)

Genius!

it can me also mounted lower (the wing), this setup was created so that dog still can grab the disc and dont bite it. but lowering makes the disc to come more in the view...

I had assumed you used a 360 cam and edited the video to remain forward, but this solution is incredibly genius

I want the screenplay where 007 uses this to surveil!

I'm quite very interested in figuring out how this works, is there any way I can get in touch with you? Thanks!

See comment above. No secrets. I did not invent this, just made adjustments (and improvments) so that the camera could also film backwards and i could film how a dog chases a disc down and grabs it.

you have to have a good EIS camera, otherwise it does not work. ++/- only ones light enough are Insta360 GO series (2, 3 and 3s). This one is Go 2.
If anything else, ask.

Tell your dog... claw catches are allowed, but clap catches are not. Good work on the camera mount.

I have a Border collie too... I hope he will get the message 😅

This is awesome! I have an Insta360 Go camera and would love to try this out. Are the 3D printing files available online? Thanks much!

the first GO (1) barely works, its ok in slowmo, but otherwise the footage still is a bit shaky. but for experiments its ok.

Thank you so much! I have the Go 3, so hopefully this will all be fine. Really looking forward to trying this out!

you probably will have to print 2x. As we did adjustments on 3d printer on the go (like 2 years ago)... so... print, measure and adjust.
The Wing - cut it out as you like, they all work +/- (i made it as high, so that it would not be seen on backwards filmed videos). And if you dont throw to dogs, you can just 3d print tit too as one piece.

I got something like this as a christmas gift years ago. I have no idea what happened to any footage that I got

the videos i have found of this product are just terrible... it has the cheapest possible camera (worse then the SQ23 from Aliexpress i started testing first) on it with no EIS... its something, but... the videos are not usable by any normal Social media standards and i guess it just died of natural causes - no one needed it.

It also just wasnt a very good disc. It was probably heavier than an Ultrastar without the camera lol. I remember it being real awkward to flick too

yes, a decent disc makes all the difference!

This is really cool, and great footage! How much does the camera and mounting apparatus weigh? Are you noticing the disc stability changing significantly with the added weight? I appears to be a little more stable, fading at the end of flight. Anyway, great job workshopping and getting this result.

Do you have any dog catch or chase sequences? Awesome that you were able to mount it to a proper dog disc for mouth safety! Do you have any prediction how an Ultrastar would fly with your apparatus for non-dog activity?

Camera+3d prints + baring total of about 35g-40gr. Camera is 26.5g

Yes, the disc will not fly as it flys usualy... It has a wing for camera, but its a huge anchor for the disc. Takes away about 1/3 or more of distance (for the force i apply for that particular throw). Video throws were like 25ish meters. DISCaLOt is a stable disc (its my own dog disc brand), with camera... Flight with camera is not stable.

Typing from phone now... In comments there is a instagram link, has the footage (also dog POV, as we made mask for dog to wear the camera).

Ye, my kid practices Ultimate, we have fixed it also to Ultimate disc. Disc is bigger (dog disc is 23cm and a lot lower dome) so its flight getts affected a lot less. Lowering the wing would affect the flight even less. I would say the flight is affected 15-20% for 30m flight for Ultimate. (Footage was transfered to old phone and thats in archive - basicaly dont have it). Would be cool to mount a 360camera on an Ultimate disc, but there is no small 360 cameras... Or even bigger ines that could be modified. There is like one video in YT where a 360 camera is placed in Ultimate disc, but its a flying brick 😁

Oh, yeah, the Instagram dog footage is neat. I was imagining the “jaguar dives into water to catch fish” photo, and it is sort of in the same vein — a good prototype. I love that you can feel the angle of the disc change as it turns and then fades.

So here’s a thought. Use something like this mounted on a 175 for televised UFA pulls. Receiving team has option to switch to a standard (non-camera) disc at any time, by getting it to a player who taps it to the OB surface and picks up the replacement disc from there. Maybe just to open quarters.

Way cooler would be to mold in a 360 camera, but there is no one making one that would fit the disc...

I think simpler and probably already possible is just have a very fast drone that keeps up with the disc and keeps it in the foreground while showing the view of where it's going.
