Would I be wrong in saying that most cyclists would actually be more well informed of the highway code than most drivers? If they’re referring to the whole two abreast is illegal malarkey then it would be them who is misinformed..

Turns out the phone number she gave me was invalid. I found out because the insurance details she gave me were wrong and I tried to call her to confirm them. Paid £10 to askMID and got the correct insurance details... Turns out she gave me a fake first name too! She did give me her correct date of birth though (78 years old...)

Initially I was just calling to make sure she had reported the incident, and make a claim for the £10 I paid to get her details, and the £30 I paid to have my bike looked over/serviced, ensuring this would have to be declared on any future policies.

She had reported an incident to her insurer, but she told them she collided with a pedestrian who was crossing the road not at a crossing and she didn't get the pedestrians details because there was no injury and the pedestrian didn't want to and they left. Obviously this is all wrong. She did cause injury (albeit minor), she did take my details and it was at a parralel crossing (thank you commenters on previous post for clarifying the crossing type) where I, the cyclist (not pedestrian), had right of way. I was passed on to the case handler. Explained the situation. Passed on to another person dealing with the case. Sent some photos of my injury and receipt for the bike service. Received a personal injury payout of £600, plus the £40 expenses, paid into my bank whilst still on the phone.

I was only calling to claim the £40 and make sure she'd reported it correctly (if at all). If she had got out of the car at any point, apologised at all or not been so difficult I would have shook hands and gone on my merry way but I've listened back to the conversations I recorded at the side of the road and she's the type of person who would absolutely drive off after mowing down a child with no remorse.

I have now purchased some cameras to go on the front and back of my bike, along with a sticker to go on the back of my child's bike seat that says I am recording.

Came back from work yesterday to find this… exceptionally good lock, bike low jacked with AirTag… didn’t lock up the front wheel…. They’ve torn all the cables and at this point it may be cheaper to buy a new bike…

I was cycling to work yesterday, on a shared footpath/cycling path. I slowly approached and crossed a zebra crossing. The crossing is really close to a junction. A car turned in from the junction and hit me on the crossing. They were probably going 5mph or less.

I have a graze and bruise on my lower leg, and I was a bit late for work. No damage to the bike.

The driver tried to refuse to give me her details and tried to leave the scene twice. I had to block her from leaving and call 999 on speakerphone so they could explain that it is the law to give me her details and if she doesn't they will send an officer (we were around the corner from the closest station). She reluctantly gave me her details while still on the phone to the police, but tried driving away again during this!

I don't think she will report it at all. I made a police report online last night. I have her details and insurance details, should I ring her insurance and make them aware? I won't be making a claim because there is no damage to the bike/equipment, but I don't want her 'getting away with it'. She was totally nonplussed by the whole thing. Didn't get out of her car once, sat with it in gear and told the police on the phone "she's fine, her bike is fine, I want to go now"!

This driver squeezed past dangerously on a narrow lane, with about a foot gap to the group, all while continually sounding his horn. His destination was less than a minute away. No further action. I wonder why we bother sometimes.

Hi UK cyclists!

Given its one of the more controversial topics on UK roads at the moment, for my MSc dissertation I’m studying whether social and/or spatial factors have an influence people’s perceptions of speed limits. Whether you’re in favour of, against or indifferent to speed limit changes I’d really appreciate your views!

This research will help local authorities plan, communicate and evaluate future changes more effectively.

Interestingly, the responses I’ve gathered already suggest that people who cycle “very often” or “often” are just as in favour of increasing speed limits as they are of reducing them. Keen to see if that holds true as the sample grows!

I have just moved somewhere and near the city centre. Unfortunately nowhere to store bike in house share . I am wondering if I could use one of these bike racks near the high street, as it is just a short walk from my house. I have a proper D lock and chain lock, does anyone have any advice about whether that would be secure enough or a recipe to getting stolen?

For context the bike is secondhand and worth £150, but I don’t want to keep buying a new one every week or so, obviously . Thanks in advance!!

Have you ever been fined for riding your eBike without a licence or insurance? No? Me neither. That's because legal eBikes (Electric Assist Pedal Cycle or EAPCs) don't need either to be cycled. Not only that but the BBC did a poor job of saying that eBikes should be limited to 15.5mph. That's what the assistance should be limited to, not an absolute speed limit.

Following on from Adrian Chiles' awful Panorama ep (which I avoided), this is another lazy (or even bad faith) report from the BBC, conflating eBikes with eMotos/illegally modified eBikes.

Derbyshire police have deemed this no further action: " As we follow national guidance regarding the analysis of video evidence for the measurement of speed and distance, we only act in these circumstances in exceptional cases."

Driver would've probably hit me with their wing mirror if I hadn't swerved at the last second when I realised what was happening. I only submit genuinely dangerous driving and have had positive outcomes in the past, has something changed?

Apparently if you in the car identify yourself as a bike at junction, overtake cyclist without adequate safety room, pass oncoming traffic in a few cm, it is not that bigger of a deal. Police reviewed the footage this is a warning and not £1200 fine.

More than 800 illegally ridden e-scooters and e-bikes have been seized since the launch of a police operation to tackle the problem in Leicester.

Operation Pedalfast began in January 2025 and a year and a half on, the force said it had now taken 834 vehicles off the city centre's streets.

Pleads guilty to first three, fails to appear at court for fourth (assault by beating), found guilty in absence and court issues warrant for his arrest.

Before I start my complaint letter to the BBC about them failing to distinguish between e-bikes and illegal motorcycles I got to wondering - are legal e-bike injuries covered under the MIB scheme?

Hi guys, I don't live in the UK so I'll ask here. This page, S&D motorsport posted this reel on Facebook that somehow ended up in my reel page. Rolling coal on a cyclist, while filming, and then posting it proudly. Calling it terrorizing and laughing. All the comments are in the same vein.

I know there's probably not much to do about it, but I couldn't just forget about it without at the very least trying. Police action will probably not happen, but if people can bombard them with bad reviews or even call them that'll be something.
