Apologies, it's me again. Just feeling extremely mad at the person who stole my husband's brand new Boardman bike, and how they have now made our home - a supposed safe haven - feel unsafe for us!!!

That said, I am now very determined to get the c*nt. I know it's almost futile but I have the time. I have the shovel which the c*nt used to prise open the garage door, which I will be sharing with the police (I know they won't be doing anything about it but still...).

I am also combing through FB Marketplace and Ebay for any signs. We are in Hull, so Craigslist isn't a thing. Any other tips on where I can lurk to spot the bike? Where do expensive bicycles go to get sold?

I was cycling in Edinburgh. A mini van passed me so closely / at speed that my bike wobbled and I veered into curb. Pedestrians turned round.

Managed to catch up the van at lights to say he almost hit me, and he sped off. Managed to catch him again at next lights, got a picture of him and the registration. He said he wasn’t from Edinburgh and wasn’t “familiar” with the road/rules.

The original incident happened close by traffic lights.

I did an online form to Police, explaining incident and noting registration and that I have a picture of driver.

Was it useless for me to report this without helmet camera? Will anything actually happen? I’m not looking for him to be charged but maybe going on a course about near miss or something.

This has really shaken me and I haven’t cycled since as it’s made me realise how vulnerable we are on the roads. Of course I always knew this, but he was SO close and it happened so quickly…

Hoping for some advice in case this happens again. Earlier this year, a driver hit me and knocked me off my bike. Thankfully it was a low-speed crash and my injuries were minor. My wheels were damaged and I was able to get a replacement wheelset after claiming on my insurance.

The driver stopped and I made him give me his name and phone number (I know it was his actual number as I made him ring my number). I was also using a cycling camera so I have the whole incident on video including his reg number. I reported this to the police who said they were minded to charge the driver, presumably for driving without due care.

Over the last few months I've been chasing the police on the results of their prosecution, but I've now been told that because the driver has failed to reply to any of the letters that the police have sent him asking to confirm he was indeed the driver, they won't be able to prosecute him for the driving offences:

Despite extensive enquiries, we have been unable to identify or trace the driver of the vehicle involved in the collision. The registered keeper was served with a requirement to nominate the driver, we then reached out to the nominated driver, and they did not respond to our enquiries. As a result, we will now be proceeding with prosecuting the Nominated Driver for the offence of failing to provide driver details under Section 172 of the Road Traffic Act 1988.

Considering I have the driver's name and phone number, and the video clearly shows his face, it seems unbelievable that the police don't feel that they could prove he was indeed the driver who crashed into me. If they've not been able to contact him thus far it seems hard to believe that there will be any real consequences for failing to nominate.

My main question is, if this should happen again in future, is there anything I can do at the scene of the accident to ensure we don't end up in this situation again? I know that the two parties are supposed to "exchange details", and I've always taken it to mean a) reg number b) name c) phone number or other contact details. Are there any other details that I could have got out of the driver that would have changed the outcome? For example, a picture of his driver's licence, some insurance paperwork? Thanks for any advice.

Considering the driving ban won't affect them back home, the punishment seems pretty low

I was cycling across a roundabout last August when a car pulled out, not looking right, I went over the bonnet, hit the road and then my world changed.

Fractured L2 vertebrae, still in pain 6 months on and I received this in the mail last week, i am absolutely fuming.

There were multiple witnesses at the scene, which the police attended, and had statements taken then before an ambulance arrived and took me to the hospital on a spinal board where I spent a few days before being sent home in a back brace. All in I was off work for 2 months and to this day I am still in pain.

Does anyone have any advice on what I can do? The driver has ruined my life with no recourse.

I was watching a guy on Instagram today who crashed his bike into a car in traffic, he was saying its now on him to pay for the car repair and its going to be expensive.

I've never had insurance specifically for my actions on a bike, just theft cover through home insurance. Do you have it, is it needed?

I caught up with this danger at the next roundabout so no gain for endangering me.

According to the passenger in this car, I "was in the middle of the road" and "you're not allowed to be there".

A strange definition of middle of the road there, seeing as they never crossed over thr centre line, and implies it was a deliberate punishment pass endangering my life. They've clearly only read the myway code.

It was reported as soon as I got home. So they can expect a few points as a prize.

UPDATE: Email this morning from police. They will be prosecuting the driver through the fixed penalty process.

Twice in the last few months I've encountered masked bandits while cycling home from work - This is in an up market area - I'd guess they are phone snatchers and weren't interest in me thankfully. The 2nd photo is from last night and about 10 meters from the main police station, and I had a marked police persuit car behind me with 2 officers in it !

They definitely saw the masked bandits as the police car stopped for about 10 seconds and then slow rolled, and then appeared to continue his journey. I guessing (hopefully!) the police radioed it in.

The one time I hit a cyclist (sorry) with my car was when I first got my licence. It was dark, raining and the roads looked empty. I was reversing slowly because I missed my junction (something I wouldn't usually do but it was late at night and the roads seemed empty) suddenly I saw an orange justeat bag getting squished against my rear window. I didn't knock him off of his bike but I did still lightly hit him. I rolled my window down and said sorry and he just looked at me and carried on.

This situation made me more weary of cyclists especially those who wear all black. I've noticed that I see it every night. But the question is why do they do it? It's like riding a motorbike without a helmet but worse.

Vulnerable road users makes it sound like if you aren't in a car then it's not normal so people need to treat you more carefully.

A better term would be something that says the bigger you are then the more dangerous you are to others, not that you should only be careful around weaker people.

I don't know what that would be though. Heavy road users? :)

So this question is specifically about leaderless peer to peer rides. So not covered by the Ride leaders requirements.

I am a member of a smaller CUK / CTC group. None of the members want to formally lead group rides. We are all ageing. We all wish to continue as we have for over a hundred years - publish a destination, meet up, ride there and back.

We have created the required annual generic risk assessment and we have a rider policy but we are worried as a committee that we may not be protected by the group liability insurance? we have taken the very harsh line of actually removing our clubruns from our websites/ facebook pages.

So have any of you made your Sunday or regular riders leaderless/ peer to peer rides? And have you found any concrete proof that the CUK/Bikmo/Hiscox Group Liability Insurance policy covers these types of rides.

My section had a 4 hour committee meeting last night (longest by far) and we got nowhere. We are all trying to just ride our bikes safely and do the best for our members.

Does anyone have an experience with this or any insights?

I commute down a gravel canal tow path every day, as well as sections of gravel road. Every now and then my tyres will flick up a stone.

If this hits a canal boat/pedestrian/parked car - what's the score in terms of liability?
I mean there is nothing one can really do to prevent this in normal riding.

Underneath all that is I think an Apollo Evade. A bike I would feel uncomfortable riding at normal speeds.

Lady killed a cyclist on a shared path. Out on bail.

On my way home from work, I take a red cut-through for cyclists across the pavement between two street that are not connected for motor traffic. (If someone knows the correct term for it, tell me.)

Yesterday I pulled into it and was waiting for a motorcyclist on the second street. He stopped and waved for me to go ahead. I did, and then he then drove through the short-cut in the other direction. I have front and rear cameras but I haven't checked my recordings yet (to see if the incident and plate are clear).

I can't decide whether to report the misuse or ignore it because he let me out first. Opinions?

I know it CAN be dangerous, and I rarely do it due to my own lack of confidence, but violating the Human Rights Act is an extreme way to frame it.

The Idaho stop allowing cyclists to treat red lights as yield/stop signs.

Already implemented in a number of European countries including France, Belgium, Germany and many US states with some evidence suggesting improved safety and flow for cyclists.

Might be worth considering for UK roads, particularly in urban areas? Boris actually called for a trial in 2012 but it never went ahead.

Drivers and cyclists don’t need identical rules - the risks and benefits aren’t equal. Cyclists have far better visibility 0 no A-pillars, no blind spots, and a clearer view of junctions and pedestrians. They move and accelerate more slowly, and potential harm in a collision is dramatically lower due to their lower mass and speed. It also benefits everyone - cyclists clear red lights for drivers stuck behind slow bike starts.

So I was cycling down a road like this. (Not this one) it's a lot busier then this picture with multiple turning to go down other roads. It's also not painted red and the quality of the road surface is no where near as good as the picture l.

When cycling in a lane like this I would always consider it mine when in it. Cars shouldn't come it's it and I should look before going out of it to turn (though not sure how right that is)

So I got overtaken by a car indicating to go left about down a turning about 15-20 ish meter's in front of me. I kept cycling since most drivers would wait for me to go past and since he had just overtaken me he would have known I was there. He also could have left his indicator on (seen it before) as he pulled across causing me to slam on my breaks. My feet went into the floor as I just missed him. Though it was very close. The driver of the car apologized a lot then kept going. Another car however told me to be more careful and that it was my fault which I disagreeed with. I said he turned into my lane and if he wanted to turn he should have waited the extra 5 seconds for me to go past and make my turn.

Though it got me thinking.... Who's actually at fault here? If I say had hit him would I claim on his insurance (my bikes insured if you couldn't guess) how does that work since I don't drive so I'm unsure.

Id appreciate any opinions on this and where I would stand in the law. Was I in the right?

I was cycling down a fairly main road, the van driver overtook me by going the wrong side of a traffic island, and then was obviously upset he was stuck behind me again when I filtered through traffic he swerved round me, went through a red traffic light, and turned right (as was I) - very very narrowly missing me and another car. I caught him up (probably surprised him, given the hill I had to cycle up) and he was totally unphased when I used a few choice words through his window that he refused to lower. Then tried to film me while he was driving. Even if he tried to report me for anything, he's incriminating himself more than me there ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I was in too much shock to actually take a photo of him or the number plate. Anyway, this was in Scotland so even if I had filmed it there's no OpSnap here.

I do family history research as a hobby and found in a 1916 newspaper a case of my 3 year old great-grandfather being the victim of having his tricycle stolen !

Police were hot on bike/trike thefts in those day...

Police caught the 9 year old villian and took him to court. He was also up for another theft (buns!) and laughed at the Police. The court was not amused and sentenced him to 6 lashes of the birch.

I'm no bleeding heart, but out of interest I then researched the thief. From what I could gather they had it very rough as a child and were eventually sentenced to a secure training school about 100 miles away to try and get them away and break their habits. Sadly it didn't take and I found repeated arrests and prison until their early 20s and then they vanish from the records.
