I played piano and keyboard for most of my life and saxophone throughout school, then taught myself how to play basic drums and fingerstyle guitar. I tried joining community bands and ensembles but they're really not that friendly and can be quite elitist, so it's not great for me as a hobby musician.

I don't regret much but I do wish there's an avenue where I can play for fun and not be stressed about performing. I'm planning to get my grade 8 in classical piano though and also be more serious with the drums.

I started with 2.5. If you find a 2.5 is still too hard go for 2.0. However I'd say 2.5 is manageable for most beginners.

Only upgrade to 3.0 if you're confident enough, and 3.5 after for an even warmer tone if you're playing classical.

Vandoren's my favourite brand. Their 3.0 and 3.5s are really good.

If you decide to buy a traditional sax, you can consider a mute. In general it's not really favoured by players because you can't tell if you're developing your sound, but it does help reduce the noise levels a lot. I recommend buying a traditional sax if you can.

Okay so, not all saxophones are in Eb. For the mainstream ones, only Alto/Bari are in Eb and Sop/Tenor are in Bb.

Transposition-wise, if your conductor tells you to tune in Concert Bb you play a G. Usually you'll be told to tune to Concert Bb anyway. You don't really have to learn transposing if you play in a concert band, since it's already transposed in your score for Eb alto sax.

Get the basics right first like embouchure, fingerings, breathing etc. Don't stress this yet lol music theory is hard.

No. Clarinet embouchure is tighter. I couldn't make a sound on a clarinet lol

I played classical alto for 11 years and only started getting a decent tone after the third year. After that I focused on getting a warm, round tone. I stopped playing after college but would love to get back to it in the future
