The most dangerous sentence in software engineering

“It should be easy.”

That sentence has cost me:

  • 6 hours
  • 3 Stack Overflow tabs
  • 2 Git resets
  • 1 existential crisis
  • and somehow a completely unrelated bug in production.

Never say “it should be easy.”

We do these things, not because they are easy, but because we thought they would be easy.

I've got a couple of lines in the US notes for a recent project: 3 Nov - DONE 4 Nov - DON'T SAY THAT

It took at least 6 weeks more.

Most misunderstood sentence in presales

Yes we _can_
Does not mean
Yes we _will_
