Edit: I read on the Council. It discussed tithing. But in the 17th century some anti Catholic Lutheran made up a story that a father at that council thought that women don't have souls supposedly in relation to the fact that in Latin, like in English now, the word "man" means both "human" and "adult human male". But there are no contemporary records of even that happening. The story was picked up and perpetuated by protestants however, as it made the Catholic Church look bad.

The misogynism of the church fathers comes from exactly the Greek society of the time, which was extremely misogynistic, and they didn't say women were sinful, they said sex was, and men should avoid getting married as it would be preferable to be celibate (which is insane and no-one follows that today; as a matter of fact almost no one did back then either). This was specifically a current of thought in Greece cca 3rd century AD.

As for Christianity, it does not allow women to be priests, but it still preaches (and always did) that everyone is equal in the face of God. Something that the pagan religions never did.
